Graphics CardFollow

What would you recommend for a graphics card given the following info?

I currently play,
SWG
BF1942 (Desert Combat)
Deux Ex 2 (hardly ever)

I wish to play the following with decent framerates
Doom 3
HalfLife 2
SWG

My computer is a Dell Dimension 8200 (it was cheap :P)
P4 2.0
Intel MB D845PT (i845D chipset)
512 DDR PC2300 ram
Geforce 4 Ti 4200/128
7.5k rpm 80gb drives
AGP 2.0 slot (4x max?)

Currently I can run SWG with good framerates except in the coronet area (I think more ram would help here). I am thinking that the nvidia line 5600 or 5700 is the most I can justfiy ($200-250 range) and I would appreciate your thoughs.

Thanks

I would check and mak sure that you have the correct drivers for your video card first and then see what your FRs are...I would then pop in another 512MB RAM, that worked for me....otherwise I would not go crazy on the card because your current Motherboard only has a possible 4X AGP?? If you want to increase your speed and such......get a better motherboard with a higher Front side bus and 8x AGP, 1 Gig RAM and then buy the new Video Card....

Your system is fine, and I agree with Jungen, just make sure you have the latest updates, for your video card (www.dell.com) and for your operating system: http://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp.

To see the biggest improvement, add 512 Meg more ram (also available at the dell website). But all in all, your system is fine. SWG loves 1 gigabyte of ram.

If your motherboard can only accept AGP 4x, then doom 3 and half life 2 will not be the amazing looks you see in the videos now. If you go for an 8x board, I would go with one of the newer an ATI Radeon cards since the newer nvidia cards tested so poorly on valve's internal HL2 benchmarks that the older and much cheaper DX8 cards outperformed them. The type you get depends on your budget.
