As a veteran of the game, I currently keep the "Helper" title on my name, as I dont mind at all about helping out noobs just first starting out. But lately (past month) or so Ive actually been getting nothing but beggars, asking for handouts. SINCE WHEN does being a noobie helper mean that I am to give free handouts to someone when in all actuality all they need to do is some destroy or delivery missions. I dont mind at all answering questions, taking noobs out hunting( letting them deal the damage, and I just sit back and heal em) occasinally giving a weapon away that I have no use for. But to me as a "Helper" I shouldnt have to give handouts to every noob that comes around. Everyonce in a while Ill give small handouts so they can get a better weapon, but not when they beg.

I mean when I started which was back in July, I never begged once, although as a Medic on occasion i recieved some generous tips...
Figured I would just post this up and see if anyone else is getting this too, as this wasnt really the case until the whole holo grinding started.....

LOL, ive just posted on that and then noticed this thread. Oh well, should have put it under here. In my mind, the majority of these beggars are just players from other servers that dont really want to put the work into their second character that they put into their first.
Ive taken away the helper tag now thanks to the she-male known as roseis on the sunrunner server. they can all rot as far as i care coz im only helping myself these days. let them get a bit of xp, theyll get picked up by a pa and then they can get all the help they can squeeze from that guild.

I am a newbie helper myself and I do not mind to help people get started. But 9 / 10 times you can judge if the person you are talking too are a newbie or just a player from another server. Yesterday I helped out this guy, and I could tell he was a newbie to SWG but I do not mind handing out a few money, so I gave him 10k just to get started. I understand that if you get like a 100 tells where ppl ask for money it will start to get annoying. I do not think it is that bad on chimaera that I play on, but maybe it is on other servers, I can imagine how it would be.

I try to help noobs when ever I can. The first char. I made was on Corbantis. I was having some problems with the game. I saw a HELPER, thinking it was a game official, not just a player. I had to reset something in my game settings or somthing weird with the game interface. Well him and his buddie helped me out. They spent like 5 hours running missions with me. We even met up with some people at Jabba's Palace and I ran the first three missions with them. One of the people we met gave me a half worn set of Ubese armor and some lower lvl weapons so I could start my way up master marksman and a crafting kit so I could work on scout.

I never asked for any of this. I was very greatfull for every bit of the help. When I built my Flurry toon to rejoin my buddies from Shadow Bane I retired my Corbantis toon.

If I feel a noob needs help I go above and beyond to help them out. I don't EVER give hand outs. If they need cash I run missions. If they need weapons I give my Master Weaponsmith friend a tell. He will sell them one, discounted on how much of a noob I thinks they are.

I feel a Karma debt to repay. Plus I want to make sure that noobs feel welcome and keep playing.

I love helping new players in my spare time. I can usually tell if the player is new from their outfits, play style, word usage, and overall herky-jerky not-sure-where-I-am attitude. Just the other day, I saw a Novice Scout fighting a Worrt in Mos Espa. He obviously haad no Marksman abilities to speak of (I came up to him and watched his HAM slowing decrease over the course of his 2 minute battle). I wiped the worrt off on the pavement with my DXR6 and said hi. A minute later, he responded. After talking briefly, I learned he had just started and had no idea where the trainers were (We were in-front of the starport). After showing him where they were, I tipped him 9000 Credits and gave him a helmet (Anakin's from the Kittster missions) that I couldn't wear, being Twi'lek :)

He thanked me profusely, and I bid him farewell.

I like helping because I just do. Now, if three other newbies approached, I may not be so helpful. I just saw him alone and I had time and some spare change, so I stopped and helped. I believe that there is hope for SWG, and if I can get another player to experience it, the game community would improve.

On other occasions of noob assistance, I seemed to be 'rewarded' by the game itself. I've gotten rare loots and other odd, yet cool treats by just helping newbs. I tipped a newb artisan like 5k and some hides and within an hour, I looted a Janta Knife from an NPC I had barely scratched. Call me crazy :)

But what about if I decide to dress up in default clothes and put novice brawler over my head? I could masquerade as one quite easily but that aint my style just saying you never know.

I dont understand how people can feel cool begging but then I guess they're on a different level of thinking than me. They just want to hurry and be jedi. Begging just part of the whole scheme of things for them.

They won't do missions, or leave town at all for that matter. There whole game is in town trying to beg their way up. My favorite past time is lying to these people and promising to meet them at strange and inconvient locations to grant them large sums of money. I send them on wild kaduu chases making them shuttle here and there, apologizing for inconviencing them, reassuring them it will all be worth it in the end. I had some kid shuttling back and fourth from mos eisly to bestine the other night FOR 2 STRAIGHT HOURS promising him wealth. He still sends me hateful e-mails.. God I love pen pals.

It is rather amazing the number of players I see begging for credits at various starports. I still consider myself a new player and can only hope that with the rise of the "begging skill mod" other players do not stop offering assistance when they see us floundering along. My first days in the game I spent running non-stop "entertainer missions" to earn credits. Soon enough I was receiving credit tips, clothing, game tips, hunting party invites, etc.. and have found a great group of friends along the way. To return their kindness I have tried to pass along that same sense of "hey let me give you a hand" to other new players and ask only that they continue to pass it along. Try not to let those who don't share the same sense of effort ruin your experience. Those of us that you do help appreciate it more than you can imagine. And for all those new players out there, please take 15 minutes to read the game guide before you start to play.

Begging has become a real nuisance. About every other day I get some beg-tells on top of the begging-spammers.
I do help newbies if I accidentally meet one but I give money or goods only if NOT asked for it (save for General crafting tools or some such starters items).
I especially hate AFK-Begging, the lowest form of existence in the game. >:(
The only beggar I ever found amusing, was a guy in front of coronet who begged for "5 credits, cause I have to eat", wearing cheap clothes. I considered this fun roleplaying and tipped him 5.

(ironically, as I am writing this post a co-worker borrows some money from me :) )

I agree with the posts here. There have been times I have spent 10-15 minutes conversing with someone who has games questions (and I have had people help me out in the same way).

If someone starts begging I tell them "no." If they continue I just use the /addignore function so I don't have to worry about them in the future!

A friend of mine got in over his head when he took a trip to Endor, found the planet a little to tough and needed to get back to Naboo, only prob was he didn't have enough money for the return trip. He begged, got the ticket and went home. This would be the limit to begging in my mind.
You also have to be careful helping people out in battles, while the majority will welcome you saving thier lives and healing them some can get quite stroppy, making claims of kill stealing, interruption and greifing, or some such nonsense.
All we helpers need to do is learn to take it on the chin, make a note of who is praying on our good will, be wary of suspicious players and, if a begger is annoying you, ask for a duel and place some credits as the prize.
