I am just curious...Follow

Does anyone know whether fishing is broken or just a major pain in the.... I am currently working on my ranger skills, so to pass the time and get some extra scouting xp while sitting in my camps, I like to fish. I have tried a number of times lately and this is what keeps happening. I get the radial menu and click the different options until I get the message "Caught Something!" I then get from 30 to 50 lines of text about the fish coming closer, trying to get away, giving up hope, etc. until I inevitably get the message that I have lost my catch, my fishing line goes limp, and I have lost my bait. I know this is a small thing in the game, but annoying just the same. I'm assuming that I have not caught a major arch enemy fish that takes great stamina to reel in, as I am fishing in streams up in Talus and not the Deep Sea. Anyway, anyone know if I am doing something wrong, or if it is just broken? Thanks, I appreciate your input.

Hopefully this guide can help you out.

It looks like your ranger skills have an impact on your likelyhood to reel one in.

A number of factors effect landing the fish.
The quality of your fishing rod is a big one, make sure you get a well made one that is over 90%. Vegetation in the water and overall fish density come into play as well.

I have a fishing rod which is 93% quality and I only fish in areas with zero vegetation and at least fish density of 4 stars and I catch a fish 8 out of 10 times.

I honestly don't believe all the stuff in that guide about having to move toward or away from the fish as it charges in or takes line etc. I just stand there and wait for the sequences to do their thing until I have either caught it or not. If you are already standing in knee deep water then chasing your catch even one step means you start swimming and you automatically stop fishing. I also don't believe that scout or ranger skills play any part at all in your chances. Every player has the same chance other than the quality of your rod and if you are at a premium fishing hole or not.
