Trouble with Chorno Trigger (PS version)Follow

So I've been playing Chrono Trigger (excellent game btw) on the PS2 and I'm stuck in a certain spot.

*spoiler*

Durring the Sunken Desert/Save the Forest side quest, when Lucca goes through a red time portal to try and save her mother from being crippled, I cannot input the password to save her. I know the password on the SNES was LARA and that this is supposed to translate to L1 O R1 O on the PS, but everytime I try to input the code nothing happens. I hit the glowing button, it asks me to input the code, I type L1 O R1 O (and get no confirmation ding) and nothing ever happens. I've tried this about 10 times now with no luck. :/

Anybody have any tips?

Hmm It works for me. I would suggest checking your button configuration again to make sure you have it right. Try the X button also. Above all, I believe the time limit is something like 8 seconds so dont try and rush it too much.

There is not a glitch on the PS version so it should work. I feel your pain though because it takes so long to re-try if you fail because of all the damn cut-scenes.

Posted before I realized you moved it >_>

Been a while but I BELIEVE you need to hit triangle instead of circle as it looks closest to an "A" I remember being flamboozled as to this change myself which is why I remember it.

I think you also have to hit "X" after you input the main code first.

By the way, if you go into the kitchen first... it gives you the actual code, in detailed instruction no less. Just check the papers on the table.

Your prize for accomplishing the feat is the Green Dream, which I think only Luca can equip and acts like auto life. VERY useful if you get owned by Lavos spikes or shadowflare end game or somthing : ) (though i always prefered the 5mp Luminare myself with the wonderous gold stud)

I had trouble on this my first time through as well. You need to hit the x button once to clear the text box, then enter the code.

Yeah i never use the green dream. Its a waste. Unless you are intentionally nerfing your toons until the end of the game then you should not really ever need an auto-revive.

I would not have minded having an auto revive for Nadia on occasion when fighting Spekko sometimes :P

You get hit by some massive area spell and everyone dies she could Life 2 everyone while poor Lucca could only use a measly revive ><

The real prize for accomplishing the event isn't the item though, it's seeing ***SPOILER***

Lara walk in the ending fair

Who the hell is Nadia? Do you mean Marle? And why waste revives on Spekkio?

Sorry for leaving this thread alone so long, much appriciation for all who replied.

Still no luck on this. The controller is set at default, I am deffinetly in the proper text bubble/input screen, I've checked the code on the table ("The code is the name of my dear wife, use it durring an emergancy" Who the hell makes a ridle of of an emergancy code o_o) and I still get nothing.

What happens is, I'll hit X and it will tell me to enter the code. I hit X again to go into the code input box. I hit any button (though I usually try L1 O R1 O in vain) and I get no confirmation ding. I hit X and get the incorrect Buzz sound. Fade to black and Lara screams.

The really annoying thing is, with every other password it gives you a ding every time you type in a correct letter. As far as I know the way it should work is: Hit X and get asked to put in code. Hit X to go to next screen. Hit L1, get a ding. Hit O, ding. Hit R1, ding. Hit O, ding. Hit X, Lara is saved.

Another interesting thing is that I can't soft reset by hitting L1+L2+R1+R2+START+SELECT, leading me to believe that my shoulder buttons aren't working at all.

Edit: This is the case with several different controllers so it would be the game/system not recognizing the buttons, not the controller itself.

Try not hitting X a 2nd time...it's been a while since I played it on PS2, but I remember it was weird. Also yes, you should get a confirmation "ding" each time you hit a correct part of the code in. If you think it's your system might wanna try playing it on a friends console and see if that helps.

I heard somewhere that there was a setting on the PS2 that fixed the 12-second loading time for the menus. Is this true?

I wanted to play it through on the PlayStation to see the added cutscenes and what-not, but both on PS1 and Ps2, then menu loads so slowly that I lose my patience and quite before I get to the cathedral at the very beginning on every attempt to play this...

Pensive mentioned it earlier, but it seems to have gone unnoticed. However, you do indeed need to punch in L1, Triangle, R1, Triangle, to somewhat match Luca's mother's name, LARA.

And so, 4 years later, I finally played and beat this game on the DS (with the Lucca's mom Good End! :D).

Haha, god I was confused where this thread came from... I unfortunately did not know about saving her when I got to that part so I did not get the item. Of course, I hardly see the usefulness when it's a one-time-only item...

Green Dream? It's not. It's one use only per fight.

I was annoyed at the four-year necro-post, then I realized you'd necroed your own thread, and I wasn't sure how to feel...

Oh ****, that description needs work then. Or is that one different the the revival item I do have (which I thought had the same name)?

I don't know what you have. The green dream allows lucca to basically just have auto-life. There is also a Grand Dream triple tech (I think gold rock enabled) but that's not an item anyway. You said you failed to save lara; perhaps Robo still gave you a "green dream", but because you ****** it up, its one use only? Perhaps I'm simply wrong about what it does?

iirc, the description read something like "Automatically Revive: One Time." The "per fight" is left unsaid due to snes char limitations I'd have assumed.

If you have one though, why not try it out?

Well, I'm playing on the DS but I'm assuming they probably didn't change that. I will probably try it out, as it makes much more sense that way. Thanks.
