I understand the business model that means Turbine got a better whack from Codemasters by allowing them exclusive rights to manage European Servers and Accounts.

Doesn't stop me being pissed off with Turbine that being in Europe, I will probably have to stick to Euro servers :(

I'm pretty nocturnal and have more US friends in MMO's than Europe - I was a Guild Officer in a decent US EQ Guild and my WoW guild is US based.

OK - If I juggle with a US copy of the game, proxy servers, friends sending game cards and stuff, I might be able to stick with all my new LoTRO buddies, but why should I have to jump through all these hoops?

I also know a good number of US Gamers who play in UK guilds for the same reasons as I me.

Without repeating all the debates on the Beta Forum, is anyone else annoyed, or am I just an insignificant snowflake like my therapist says I am?

I would venture to guess you are a snowflake! Ah, nah. I am quite pissy over it myself. It's ridiculous, it's all about the money. From what one of our programmers mentioned, it's probably just the registering IP they log, and not the actual when logging in.

If you hear something let us know, if I hear something, I will be back to post.

I am necroing this post to see if there is anymore info about EU'ers not able to join the US'ers even if they have a US game version.

I was able to play the WoW EU, simply using my wife's home address in Finland, so was wondering if that can happen or not. Not that I will switch to EU, but if she gets into the game, she has RL friends over there that play MMO's as well.

Nevermind I suppose, I found an answer in a later post, where someone wanted to petition the idea.

I think you missed the details of whats going on. Currently Turbine and Codemasters have some type of IP block in place (at least thats the current speculation, Turbine is refusing to make any type of serious comment on the situation). With the proper region software someone in the EU region would be allowed to play on the NA servers and visa versa. Turbine and Codemasters currently have it setup where even if you have the proper version of the client, you still can't play outside of your region. This has caused some serious issues with multi-region guilds being forced apart. This isn't only effecting long time existing guilds, it's also effecting pretty much anyone who travels for personal or business reasons.

Whats the time-stamp on that post out of interest? Because that was REALLY old news, and was changed a LONG LONG time ago.

The IP blocking has been lifted, you still need the right client to play though. No playing on the EU servers with the NA client or vice-versa. You know Nobby from the kinship? He lives in Europe and plays on the US servers with us.

Hello everyone,

Throughout the Alpha and Beta phases of development, we have worked hard to satisfy the enthusiastic community that has risen up in support of LOTRO. We listened to and incorporated your ideas many times throughout development and our game is now stronger for it. As we prepare for launch we wanted to let you know that your feedback still matters. We have been listening and will continue to do so in the future.

Recently, some players expressed their concern about our plans to implement IP blocking. After listening to our fans, we have decided to remove IP blocking in North America.

However, we strongly encourage players to purchase and play the game in their region to receive the best game experience, connectivity and local customer support. Please note that regional clients are only operable with their respective regional services.

In closing, we would like to thank the players for your feedback. Your honest input has been invaluable to us throughout development. We are always listening to your feedback.

Enjoy Middle-earth!

Thats what I get for going back to read every single post in the boards, starting with the first to most recent *laughs* I get outdated info^^

You do realize that if Codemaster wasn't involved this would be a North America only game. Turbine just doesn't have the resources to support it worldwide.

With the great job Codemasters are not doing of keeping servers online it soon will be a NA game only because the EU player base wont be playing.
