I have been visiting this site for over 6 years and never really been a part of the community. I want to change that for this game.

SO I will be on whatever all the alla peeps are on.

The list in plain text so it can be seen in the reply screen:

Brandywine
Elendilmir
Gladden
Landroval
Meneldor
Silverlode
Windfola

From what I've seen in the beta forums, Landroval seems to be the unofficial RP server and Elendimir seems to be the server of choice for the oceanic crowd. If the servers are sorted alphabetically, Brandywine will be on top of the list and may crowd up first. On top of that, it's the server with the highest potential name recognition, which could also speed it to overcrowding. Some of the folks on the beta forum were trying to push for Windfola as the RP server but seem to have lost that bid. None of the hardcore or PvP types have seriously tried to claim to a server at this point. All of the servers will be in the northeast US, so server locale won't be a factor.

I don't see a reason to move from Meneldor at launch yet. It is also one of three servers that I haven't seen a group try to "claim", which to me is a good thing.

I can't really say yet, since I haven't played. I'd like to get together with other RPers but since there still seems to be some debate about just which server that will end up being....*shrug*

But I'm sure what will happen is I end up wherever I end up making friends. RP is wonderful but it's hard to do alone, and friends will make up for the lack of RP if worse comes to worse. Unfortunately right now it doesn't look like any of my friends from WoW plan on playing LOTRO so I'm a bit up the creek. :(

I just threw a post up on the other thread to see what everyone's take on Elendimir is. The unofficial oceanic server might be a perk to those that wouldn't be on as much during US peak hours.

I want to go to whichever server has the most west coasters cause I'm tired of people going to bed as soon as I get on...anyone know if PST players are partial to a server?

Did not vote because that there be between 600.000 to 1,000,000 players in open beta. & servers will not hold them all and they most likely will open new one.

Even 600,000 is a very high estimate.

Realistically the game is looking at between 250,000 and 500,000. It may grow significantly if Turbine is responsive to player demands and concerns.

I don't know, they said they are giving out a whopping MILLION "world tour" keys, aka open beta, and that it will last right up the release of the game in late April. They've put them in the latest issue of some magazine (pc gaming I think) and apparently have a deal with gamespot to hand them out too. I could easily see the open beta hitting a very high number, it's almost going to be like the release of the game itself I bet, only with a level 15 cap.

Now, the release itself i'd say your estimate is a bit more likely, but for open beta... you know how people get over "free" stuff, and this is like the mother of all free trials.

Computer Games Magazine, which is a distant third behind Games for Windows and PC Gamer in terms of subscribers. I like it because it's not aimed at teenagers and it coverages tends to lean toward the Strategy, RPG, MMO genres. This same publisher just started up Massive Magazine, dedicated to MMO's.

Where was I...?

Oh yeeaaah. I can see this game easily getting into the millions because it's got the name and it's actually a really good game. I would bet money on it. Honestly, I'm surprised there are as few servers as there are, I worry about overload. Maybe their systems can support many more users per server than other MMO's.

Well, I knew it was in one Smiley: lol at least it is more dedicated to the kind of plaers who would like MMOs for what they are... rather then the people who play shooters and try to be "teh uber leet" or something.

I do agree with you some about the server thing though... I mean there are what, like what, 7 servers? 7 servers to hold even 100,000 people is still like 15k people per server... assuming they all spread out evenly. I know they wont all be playing at the same time, but thats still a lot of people on at once, although thinking about it a little that probably is about average for MMOs per server. Of course, they did run the closed beta on just two servers... and had a couple stress tests, so one can hope they know what to do with large volumes of people on servers. Of course, just because they may hit a high number of players, doesn't mean that it'll happen all at once. I'm sure if they need to they'll add more servers down the road.

Elendilmir isn't just for oceanic players. I've met dozens of players that are from the USA on it. I have enjoyed the server so far. Gonna make a character on Gladden, and Meneldor to see what they are like but Elendilmir is a good server. I reccomend it all to you.

Send Kurrelgyre a /tell in-game if you are looking for a kinship full of mature players.

Well of course it isn't just for them, and I don't think anyone was implying that... Turbine hasn't specified any servers for various things like oceanic or RP or different timezones, so the players in the closed beta voted for various servers to be unofficial servers for various things. That doesn't mean it is only made for them however, as all of it is unofficial and not endorsed/made/specified by turbine.

Servers can be unofficially declared the server of oceanic players or role-playing and that might throw players off and make them want to choose another server. That's the only reason I said that. =P

Think I'll try Brandywine.

In N.E. Ohio we have a ski resort called Brandywine, so it'll be easy to remember if asked. Oh and the fact that I can spell it helps =D Some of the names for MMORPGS just get semi-crazy in the spelling department.
