Don't like your founder's cloak? Change it! (For Darqflame)Follow

#1 Apr 06 2007 at 8:28 AM Rating: Good
So I preordered my copy from EB, which means that I got the super-common and uglier-than-sin founder's cloak. Well, I was a bit disappointed with the EB/Gamestop one, but the nearest Best Buy is an hour away and the nearest Fry's is half a continent away, and I didn't want to preorder my game with either of them (especially not online, when god only knows when I'd get my game after it goes live).

So what I did is I went to Best Buy and preordered a copy there to get THEIR key (ten bloody dollars, extortionists!). I was hoping that I could preorder for their key, then when I got my full-version from EB I could upgrade to that copy (thus saving me a trip out of town to go back to Best Buy). Last night I went to the LOTRO account management page and saw where it had an option to add a key to an account.

Well, I typed in my Best Buy key and submitted it as an account upgrade. The awesome thing? Now all my characters have BOTH founder's cloaks. And being a prestige-item ***** like I am, I'm 2/3 satisfied. Now if only Fry's would open up shop somewhere in my part of the country in the immediate future, then I'd be REALLY happy. Ironic that the easiest-to-get preorder comes with the ugliest cloak and the hardest-to-get has the best cloak. But anyway, I figure there's bound to be at least two or three of you who, like me, don't want to miss out on all the founder's cloaks while they're available. Apparently Turbine expected people to want the different cloaks, since you have the option of adding multiple preorder keys to your account, allowing you to have multiple founder's cloaks.

So, Darq, you're not stuck with lime green and bird vomit. =D

Just curious about what's going to happen when you don't apply a retail key for both of those? Will the Best Buy cloak disappear when you enter your retail EB code? Funny how everyone's taste is different because I'd be bugged if I hadn't gotten the EB cloak...it's my favorite...sort of old-world antiqued.

I have the Fry's founder's cloak but my key came from Amazon.com. I've actually never even heard of Fry's before, lol.

While I am lucky that the founder's cloak that I have, is one that I like, I am not so much a fashion maven that it would matter that much to me if it wasn't really to my liking. I would just wait till I found one that was better.

However, to each his own I guess.

Is there a place we can see what they look like? I'm curious to know the difference. My buddy has the EB cloak, and I'm thinking I find it a bit fugly.

[EDIT]: Nevermind, I found Mistress Darqflame's post. ^^.

Yes, all Fry's Electronics are located in Southern California. So good luck on that. I think Amazon.com pre-orders are using the Fry's beta code; Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Actually, there are Fry's all over the place.

At the end of that article, it has a list of all the stores. While most are in cali, alot are in Texas, and they have a few in Illinois, Georgia, and Indiana.

Okay, so far we know that the Cloak of the Peace-Keeper is the EB/Gamestop one.

Do we know which one is the fry's and which is the best buy one? The other two are the Cloak of Easeful Thought and the Wayfarer's Cloak.

Pre-order Founder's Cloaks: Cloak of Easeful Thought from Best Buy ; Wayfarer's Cloak from Fry's ; and Cloak of the Peace-keeper from EB Games/Gamestop

I am too lazy to link them or edit the code from the news post I made to forum code.

Why the heck did they give different items to different retailers to begin with?
Grrr...

Wish I'd known this before I preordered (and fully paid for) my copy from EB.... >.<

I wouldn't worry too much. My cloak was obsolete by about lvl 12.

I'm more interested, at this point, in being able to destroy them to save inventory/bank space. Attempting to "drop" them just bounces them back into my inventory.

That is concerning.

Related question:
I'm curious, will my current characters/future characters all get those items?

IE - I have 2 characters now, a Man Captain & a Elf Hunter. They'll both get those items when I get my key from EB? (Btw, when do I get that? I got my purchase confirmation from EB, but no codes for the items.)

Will new characters I create have access to them as well?

Anything is useful items at first and I'd like new characters to have those items assuming you can get rid of them later on...
#23 Apr 18 2007 at 9:29 AM Rating: Good
First, all your characters get the items. All the characters you create now and forever.

Second, while a +18 cloak seems pretty buff at first, it does soon pale in comparason to higher level loot.

However, I did hear that the devs original plan was for the stats on the founder's cloak and ring to improve over time so go ahead and stash them... maybe they have some future plan in mind to let us bring them out of mothballs...

Boy, I just can't imagine it getting any better than a +3 Agility ring! Smiley: grin
