Qestioning the Name filter...Follow

Well after enjoying a fun filled experience during closed beta of LORTO, me and my partner decided that we would buy into the real thing.

Now we got our open beta's yesterday and installed them as soon as possible and started playing on the servers' first open beta day (cause we're EU).
We wanted perticular names and my partner got hers but I wanted a Gaurdian called Alexander... which sadly was taken.
So I settle with a different name then decide that I will make a few other characters just to rack up a few other names that I desire. But to my annoyance, the name filter would not allow the name "Shiva"... now I personally do not know why, maybe it means something dodgy in some random language.

Anyway so I give up on that and go into game, to which I have seen names that seem highly inappropriate such as "Knobjockey" and "Bunghole", and this has made me question the name filter.
So I ask, can someone explain why these names are allowed through the filter or were they just lucky?

Both the name and chat filter are pretty terrible.

Shiva/Siva being both a Hindu deity and a trademarked character from certain game series (Such as FF) could understandably get it blocked. But most of the time legitimate names are blocked while the poor ones get through. Someone who would name themself "Knobjockey" obviously doesn't care what sexually connotative name they have as long as it is innuendo, so they'll just keep trying names until htye find one the filter lets through.

Other people who have long time character names like "Aeolus" rather will be greatly disappointed by the blockage.

Yeah, no kidding. While they just recently fixed it, I was pretty pissed that I couldn't name my first elf Calminaion (derived from the Sindarin words for 'Bright Fame') just because it had three vowels in a row. Especially when I finally logged in to see some of the ****** names that DID get through the filter. I think the whole idea should be revamped.

After checking "Shiva" on wiki I can now see why it was banned... did not realise it was a supreme god.
So this means that so far the filter blocks names that may offend religions or people, has 3+ vowels in a row, uses obviously innappropriate langauge or brakes legal protection (copyrighten names).... I suppose it can not block every offending name though.
Hopefully GMs will pick off those people who do get innappropriate words through the filter.

Thats a goddamn shame. Would it really be that difficult to have a server admistrater who could actually police thier server or Gm's or even volunteers. It's just way cheaper i guess to buy an indiscriminate program once than it is to pay some people a little more to make the game better. I mean how long would it really take to read a few thousand names a day? I can read half a novel in a day if i have nothing to do..thats got to be at least 100,000 words if not more, they could be done in no time even if they looked at every name and to police all the new ones after the original search would be minimal. The more i think about it the more it ticks me off. I hope you Named your elf something similar man cuz thats a great idea. Alright i feel better now im going to go see if i can craft an actual name from lore that will pass thru the dreaded NFM (Name Filter Machine)...better make a few cuz im sure the obvious are taken :)

They changed the vowel limit to three in the last patch. Petition names that are obviously offensive or not in character such as 'Bunghole' or 'Knobjockey'.

The only way the GMs will pick them off is if someone reports them...

So, report them to the GM yourself when you see them. They even have a section just for reporting naming violations unlike some other games.
