Thinking about trying this gameFollow

I've played WoW almost 2 years all together, EQ2 about 6 months, and my first MMO was FFXI. I tried Vanguard recently and found it was , in so many words, pretty bad. I recently quit WoW as I'm utterly bored with the game after so long.

Few questions about this one.

Servers: Is there an RP server of any kind? Are the servers stable/is the lag terrible?

Comp specs:

Running 1.5g ram and an AGP 512mb Raedon card, 2.8 processor, comps a few years old but not too awful. How high are the system reqirements of this game, and can a mid-spec comp run it fairly well like WoW is able to be run decently?

Gameplay: I'm pretty casual, I'm not a hardcore level grinder nor do I like to sit in front of the game for more than 2-3 hours MAX a day, and usually more like an hour or two. If I play, I would be duo with my spouse. Is this game casual-duo-friendly, or is it a forced grouping game? I'm afraid I really just do not have the RL time to devote to a forced grouping game (like FFXI)

Is it fairly easy to equip yourself and have enough gold to do so, or are the farming requirements of FFXI (aka hours and hours and hours a day) porportions?

Is this game just 'fun' or is it more like a second job? I'm just looking for a fun, 'don't have to be hardcore' for myself and spouse to play when we're bored and have some time to sit down and mess around on the computers.

Thanks in advance.

You should be able to run just fine on your comp. Maybe not at the highest settings, but decent enough.

The gameplay is not as time consuming as ffxi as far as I can tell. Most exp comes from quests like wow, and solo/duo is very possible in LotrO.

Gold seems easy enough to come by, you will get lots of trash drops that you just sell like in wowo.

All in all its a very fun game, that isn't so much of a time sink as ffxi. The graphics are amazing, and the story line is great. I would say try it out, especially if you enjoy the lotr story.

1. There is no role-play server. Turbine has said they want all servers to be role-play servers. It remains to be seen if they will change their minds at some point, but my money is on no "special" servers of any kind being implimented.

2.Your machine will run it fine. I'm getting it to run on a 1.7 p4 with 2gb of ram and an nvidia fx5500.

3.Very caual friendly imho, and I'm a casual player. Easy to log in, play an hour and accomplish something. There are some quest that require groups, but you could skip them entirely, or just wait and come back to them when you and your spouse are high enough level to duo them.

4.You can get gear from drops and quest completion, and player made gear is very nice. If you and the spouse choose different professions you can keep yourself in gear without spending too much in the auction house. plenty of "trash" drops to sell for money, but bear in mind this is a new game so the economy is still in its early stages of development.

5.To me, its a whole lot more "fun" than "second job". I think you and the spouse would enjoy it, but I have a slightly biased opinionSmiley: lol

If ever a game was made for RPing it was this one. Even with no dedicated server I am hopping I find pleanty of RPers out there.

In FFXI, one of the things that kept me playing was the deep and clever story that followed the main quests. From what I've seen and from the history they have to live up to, this game promises the same intense storyline I expect with anything with the Tolkien name.

********* it says in the Manual I believe, or before you make your Server choce, it has a little bit about RP servers, though maybe that is outdated since release. I am too tired to look.

There are specific RolePlaying servers for each language. Denoted by the EN-RP, FR-RP, and DE-RP at the server select screen. Still, doesn't mean you can not role-play on the other servers, I've seen a lot of people on Eldar doing a bit of role-play, it' just easy to do in this game.

Only lag I've ever encountered is the initial loading of the game, and occassionally when entering heavily populated areas like the town centres.

As for system specs, the better your PC the better the game will look I'm currently running: AMD X2 Athlon (2.2Ghz), 2GB RAM, GeForce 7900 GS and have everything set to high or very high which makes the game look amazing.

It is a fun game that caters for any sort of gamer - casual or hardcore. The farming isn't too bad, just got to run around a bit but there's no problems with people fighting over resources and the like.

Like Pelacha said, that would be because it is a EU only thing. Turbine has taken the stance for their servers that every server is an RP server.

Landroval is the "Unofficial roleplaying server" FWIW. It's also the unofficial harrass the RP'ers and argue about RP in /OOC server

Actualy seeing our server get scolded like that was pretty funny. How, in a game with now real PvP outside of a specific instance, can you have a PvP Server (official or otherwise) is beyond me.

Anyway as a 4 year FFXI Vet, I can tell you LOTR is far less of a job than FFXI is. Like any MMO your progress is directly tied to how much you put into it.

Like I tell people who join out Kinship, this is about fun. If you need to be 50 by friday, or you have to have the best gear at all costs and can't live without it, there's a lot of other Kinships you should try out. We don't care if it takes you two weeks or two years to hit 50 as long as you have fun doing it.

Jophiel, he said Landroval is the server where people are being hassled for RPing. It's the "un-official RP server" so I guess the people who wanted to make fun of the RPers went there.

I'm going to say this once, so listen up, peeps.
Whether you guys designate Meneldor as the unofficial PvP server or not is up to you.

Your behavior on the forums still has to be in line with the code of conduct. Smack talking in good fun? Sure. Aggressive, obnoxious behavior toward each other on our forums isn't.
So I went with that.

I fail to see the reason why people need official role-playing, or player-versus-player servers. Aren't guilds enough? There are going to be idiots to make fun of you wherever you go, so whats the point? Oh, it's much more simple to be in a role-player designated server than to find a role-playing guild, isn't it? Don't be a monkey.

I'm on Brandywine right now. It's a very fun server. I met a nice guild there, and we have fun together. You're going to want to do the same thing. You will be missing out on alot of fun if you just go where the other rpers flock, which as far as I know is Landroval. Try Elendilmir. There are lots of mature players there, and I'm sure you could find some people interested in role-playing. Check out the official forum to meet like-minded players. I'm aware that Brandywine has quite a few rping guilds too.
