Been hearing lot of good things about this game, When I quit ffxi I got WoW only because so many people I knew had it. But i prefer ffxi gameplay, and was wondering if LOTR adapted any of FFXI methods? Exp chains crafting rare spawn mobs, any insight would be much appreciated. Is this game ffxi and wow or nothing like that?

Nothing like FFXI. More similar to WoW yet dissimilar at the same time. Rare spawns? yes. Exp chains? no. That said, as vague as it may be, I like it!

The "feel" of LOTRO is a lot more FFXI then WoW, imo.

- The graphic "feel" and music reminded me of FFXI, ive played DAoC and EQ2 too where i didnt think it "felt" like FFXI.
Maybe genociding the local wildlife as means of leveling helped too...
- Walking distances are pretty huge, im level 15 and i have the feeling i covered more distance then 2 lvl 70's in WoW, but way less then in FFXI :P
- Crafting has critical success chances for "+1's", also crafting is really expensive to level.
- Same level elites totally kill me, i play captain. (unlike WoW where almost each class could solo same level elites)
- Some same level normal mobs almost kill me, i hate bears.
- One central plot line, the so called "epic quest", similar to FFXI's rank system/quests.
- Ive heard faint rumours that group play is more exp/hr then solo grinding at later levels (30+), bc the classes are specialized on their field then.

i thing i hated about FFXI was it was pretty much group or no go the game had no solo potential (least when i played it, though doubt that has changed)

It still barrows heavily from WoW though at the same time... but it does have a bit of a feel of FFXI also like in the crafting system and such. However, I do disagree a little with the thing about being able to solo equal level elites in wow.... that normally is a very tricky business and very few classes could do it.

As for those rumors... well there is a serious exp dip at 35ish, but that is more just that they don't have many solo quests left.

Hey thanks for the replies, It sounds to me like a ffxi/ WoW game which is brilliant. Obviously being able to lvl quickly is why WoW is so popular and so many kids (under 16) play and ruin many things such as fun factor etc on occasion. I prefer a slower lvling game like ffxi, and Lotr sounds like the type of game that would take maybe a month or more to ding max lv, w/e max lv is. I assume 50. Rare spawns in a mmo are a must and end game is yet to be seen, but I might give this a try. Currently im stuck in the end game grind in WoW and its ok, but nothing special. FFXI end game was great and thats why I played for almost 4 years, many of my friends hated it tho for obvious reasons you ex ffxi players know all to well. WoW was really a disopontment when i found out how bland even now with the expansion changes to crafting it still is bland and needs retuning, ffxi crafting system was great, maybe the greatest of all mmo, and ive played em all.

Well, the thing about the crafting system in LotRO is a combination of WoW and FFXI. Yes, you have the critical successes, but you also have the basic 1-click combine interface like WoW. You also have the skill points like from WoW, and everything you make gets skill unlike in FFXI. Well, until you've mastered the tier that is... which is when you can start getting crits.

I upped 6 classes (priest, mage, hunter, rogue, warrior, druid) to 30+ and they all could :P

LOTRO is the best MMO i played yet, only lvl 17 though, so ill see what happens.
Ive played several MMO's and LOTRO is a sort of "best of" MMO, not original but pretty good anyway. Im in love with the atmosphere.

Last night i had my first "break" on a craft!
I had enough ingredients to make 10 hard biscuits for cooking, made them all and had 8 in my back pack, game is still a bit buggy...
