Hello, i am currently replaying Final Fantasy XI online, and was a bit curious about this Lord of the Rings game. I have World of Warcraft ( Lvl 58 dwarf hunter) and had to quit the game due to my computer acting up graphics wise and being boggled down alot. i plan on this summer getting my computer repaired and having it upgraded where it wont give any problems for the future, and even check this game out since im a huge LOTR fan. B4 i buy this game i just want to know is the game worth paying for, and does it have a large population of other players? Please reply to this with any answers plz :)

The game is a bit harder on my computer than WoW is, I even have less of a problem playing EQ II. But it is definitely worth it!

I've been playing for over a week now, reached lvl 17 and crafted my own armour. Crafting is very similar to WoW, to say the least, so it does help if you have played that game.

I'm on the European servers (unfortunately, again no global servers, I always liked playing with people from all over the world, but that's finished I suppose), there are loads of players around.

It's easy to find a fellowship, easy to do quests (relatively speaking, some are very hard, most are fun) and best of all: spawning is very fast. Sure, lots of people might want the same kind of mob, but they usually spawn back very fast so everyone gets their targets fast. I've seen queueing for some targets even.

Graphic wise, I can't say all that much, I need to upgrade my vid card and perhaps double my memory to 2 GB, right now I'm playing at medium I believe, lagging a lot in Bree but it is very playable outside the city.

The game is based on the books, which is good as it has a tremendous amount of areas and people and story not seen in the movie. Just don't expect everything to look like the movie, different copyright.

2 gigs of RAM is highly recommended, yeah. You should also know that you won't be chopping up orcs in Mordor any time soon since only the northwestern part of Middle-Earth is in the game yet. Just saying in case you didn't know, I've heard complaints :P

I love this game, 5/5. Get it!

I have been playing this game for about a week. I play FFXI also, and have been for 3 years. I have several jobs leveled to cap, merits, you name it I've just about done it; from gear to end game areas.

While FFXI will always probably be the game for me and I've developed a whole bunch of friendships with people there; I like LoTR because it's something I can do more solo of and move at my own pace. I can actually take more real life time and come back and still find plenty to do.

When I first started, I wasn't quite sure I'd enjoy it since I had tried Vanguard too. I'm liking it more and more each day now and have my Minstrel leveled to 12.

The hardest thing for me right now is learning the mechanics of gameplay since they are very different from FFXI.

Fellowships, at least I know how to /leave now lol. The biggest thing that has helped me is that I know the basic role of a support/mage type from my years in FFXI. I can relate the various job classes here to many of the FFXI ones; and I think that helps alot....just different names.

I find lotting confusing and wonder if I'll ever get the hang of it. I find that I am so intent on trying to still figure my role in fellowship, while killing multiple mobs sometimes; I find it hard to concentrate on my spells/abilities and what is right for when. But it's fun.

While FFXI is more part/grouping driven in order to complete may things, This game has plenty of solo stuff to do which I like. Getting used to numerous quests, areas, towns is confusing to me; but I think I'm beginning to get the hang of it. Armor, item acquisition is different also. Sometimes I'm confused as to, for instance, what gear is best for Minstrel, since it goes by light armor, which I know is good for my class, but they are not job specific per se.

The spells, can we make different macros, etc take some getting used to. I keep referring to manual more.

So I'm hesitant still to get in groups - I give warnings :P ... because I don't want to appear too noob. But I really am beginning to enjoy this game more than I thought I would.

Hope this helps.

My experience is in the similarly forced grouping EQ1. If that's at all similar, people in this game are a lot more forgiving in groups than they would be in FFXI, especially if they know you're trying.

Your main job in a group is to heal. Forget trying to do damage for now and just concentrate on keeping everyone standing, but put it off as long as possible to let the tank get aggro, and you'll be fine. If you're in a full group, most MoB's are probably going to die so fast you'll be lucky to get a Piercing Cry in, much less a whole string of ballads and an anthem.

If you're in a group with 2 Minstrels, plan on one of you healing and the other playing ballads to buff the group and backup healing.

Thanks! That input helps alot. It is much like FFXI; learning hate control is a big portion there also.

I LOL at the part about time to even get in the piercing cry and anthems before the mob dies

Tbanks for the tips .... I am taking it slowly at this point; my goal being to get to the point that I know I will keep the group alive and not kill them! :D

The death penalty in LoTRO is so much less punitive than in EQ1 or FFXI that I can't imagine anyone getting that worked up about the learning curve. I'm sure there's jerks out there and no one really likes to waste time banging themselves against a wall but, by in large, it's just not a big deal.

In FFXI, it would take just so long to even get a group together then making your way to the camp spot, that by the time you start, you are already in a bad mood. Then, when someone screws up and you lose 10% of your exp and level down while all your gear was for the higher level, thats a good reason to get frustrated. In WoW/LotrO, you don't really have such roadblocks, so when someone in your fellowship is new, no one really has a reason to not be patient and understanding. The ones that aren't are just jerks in general and nothing you can do about that.

Ah yes I am an FFXI convert myself. I started FFXI PS2 release date. When I first started playing this game I thought it in no way comparable to FFXI, but then a friend of mine described it to me as a light hearted MMO. That is a good desrciption. I enjoy it now. I dont even log onto FF much anymore. I just got sick of toggling party flag and waiting for an hour for a party that was going to break up in 15 min. Plus it feels good to be on the ground level of things again. FF is getting frustrating Dunes is damn near empty these days and if you cant put a party together out of you LS you going to have a hard time leveling a new job. This game is just fun, and that is what a game should be.
