Best Solo Class in GameFollow

#1 May 31 2007 at 7:30 AM Rating: Default
Curious as to what people think is the most powerful solo character in the game.

I play a Lore-Master and by no means can I say he is the best at soloing as I have no experience playing other classes.

I can take down 3-4 mobs my level (20) at once using stun, pet, melee, and various spells. Everything must go right and stunn can't be resisted. I have played a beastmaster in Final fantasy, Necro and druid in EQ, Necro in WOW, Hunter in Heros, Necro in EQII, and forgot Vanguard toon.

It would be interesting to see what everyone thinks about other classes.

Necro in WoW?

"There is no 'best'... only in your mind..." Oh, wait... wrong story!

In any event, there is no 'best' class to solo with. The classes in LOTRO are very well balanced and much of what makes a class better or worse in terms of solo ability will come from how the player plays that class... knowing how your class works and how to make the most of your available tools will go a long way towards making you a stronger player. I would take the "weakest" class in the hands of a strong player over the "strongest" class in the hands of an e-bayer any day!

QFT OBD QFT

And I agree there is no "best" class for soloing. I play a champion far better than a guardian and a guardian far better than a captain but I have all three and solo all three. Some mobs I can do on a champ I can't do on a guardian and some mobs on the captain I can't do are no issue for the champion when he was similar level.

It really boils down to how you play the character, environment (aggro radius, wanderers, idiots dragging stuff over the top of you that wander back and help kick your *** and such), level of mob vs your level and elite vs. non elite status. Gear contributes to a small degree but overall, these are the factors I always bear in mind when playing any of my characters.

From what I understand, Guardians can solo pretty well. I've heard that burglars can perform some nifty tricks to solo elites and heard the same about Lore-Masters but I've also heard both classes lament that they get smashed easily (especially LMs). Champions can solo like a machine at lower levels but they lose some of that as they progress past 25-30ish until even multiple blues become a problem (again, hearsay). My own Captain can solo single oranges without much trouble, single yellows and duo whites/blues at lvl 37 but it's not quick going. No clue about minstrels but, in medium armor, I'm sure they're somewhere between Champions and Lore-Masters. Hunters, like Champions, start off strong but begin to feel the limitations of medium armor at higher levels and need to keep a space between the mob and their bows in order to survive.

So I guess the answer is that there is no real "solo master".

Sorry, class was called Warlock in WOW not necro.

I agree mob being killed, player's abilities in knowing his or her charactor, equipment, and level all make a difference.

With that being said from the discussion so far there isn't a clear solo charactor in LOTR like the Beastmaster in FFX, or the Necro in EQ?

The minstrel is clearly the best healer in the game but can anyone make an argument on the best solo class?

My minstrel is only 10 and one of my lower level toons but it seems to me I have an affinity for soloing with her over my others. I can handle quite a bit with my captain but for some reason multiples give me trouble and my guardian can stand in there but anything more than 1 level above him and I start to have issues. I think it comes down to how well I know how to use my skills and I still need a lot of work on that. With my minstrel I just seem to be able to string together my songs into a fairly devastating combo punch, but some of this may have come from playing a bard back in the original EQ and being a member of the carpal tunnel twist club.

Have you not been paying attention? Everyone who has responded says there is NOT a single class that is the best soloer. There have been no dissenting opinions regarding which class is... everyone says NO class is best.

Edited my post to read "Champions can solo like a machine at lower levels..." I had written Captains by accident.

I wouldn't necessarily agree that No class is best at soloing, but I can agree to the point being made that there is no real solo artists. Much of the balancing being done to the classes are done so that all can solo well and have value in fellowships.

The soloing capabilities are thankfully for the most part identical to what makes each class valuable in fellowships. Now down to what makes each class the best class at soloing..... so to speak.

Guardian is the best soloer since he can take on several mobs at once and take the least damage. He's also the best soloer since he will survive a lot longer when trying to run away from a hopeless battle. People will lesser defensive skills and equipment won't get far before dying

Champion is the best soloer since he is the master of area effect attacks so he can take on several mobs at once and cut them down fast. The great bonus that makes him amazing is that he can deal heavy damage and still take a lot of punishment due to his armor.

Lore-master is clearly the best soloer since he can fight one mob at a time duo to his crowd control abilities. He can even take them down fairly fast with his excellent magical capabilities and steal more power from his mobs when he tires.

Hunter is the true master of soloing. Hunters has the best damage output in the game, so they take down single mobs faster than anyone else. This means they get the job done faster than anyone else, both because of the damage output and because they can track their prey instead of searching to the degree that others must. To top off their main strength in damage output they also have traps that can immobilize a single melee foe until they finish the one they are currently fighting as well as fear that sense animals away while they deal with their current target.

I could go on with weknesses of each class that shows why other classes do better than them against certain mobs or mob configurations, but it will serve little purpose. The gist of what I say is similar to what others say in this thread: Depending on how you like to play, chances are that whatever class you learn to play well, he will be far more efficient at soloing than any other class you try to play the same way.

On a more constuctive note though, we could say YOUR best soloer based on certain criteria can be defined:

If the best soloer is...
who can survive best: Guardian
who has the most versatile skills: Lore-master
who can kill the most mobs fastest: Hunter or Champion
who only soloes when he has to: Minstrel
who is most FUN to solo with: Any and all classes in LOTRO

My appologies for not going into the skills of Captains, Minstrels and Rogues, but examples should be enough to illustrate the points made in this thread.

My wishes for a grand solo career whatever class you choose :-)

For quests, I think a Burglar can complete more quests solo than other classes, simply due to being able to stealth and hide in plain sight. I've been able to solo a lot of fellowship quests because I can sneak my way to the boss, wait for him to get isolated and then kill it. Also, when all cooldowns are ready, a burglar has a lot of skills to be able to solo a same level elite close to his level with some luck. I was able to solo Svalfang at lv31 and barely survive, but I did it.

Nitpick: Burglar not Rogue.

I agree you can solo with any class. Of the classes listed in my sig, each has its own style and method of dealing with adds or preventing them.

More important than class might be character development. Make sure you have earned and equipped traits to help you survive.

missed the gold farmer.. hope he/she died a horrible death at the hands of Sauron...

all that stuff said above,

i agree, i haven't found a "best class".
it appears that the Devs went to some trouble to balance the game
on the good side... (congrats, you succeeded)
they all work...

on your side...
you need to take the effort to find which class works for your playing style..
they are similar but not the same as other games...
for instance...
don't make the mistake of thinking a loremaster is a mage...
you will die many times if you do... (i did)
the classes are different here.
I believe intentionally so..

good for the Devs.. it made me step back and rethink things..

my loremaster just made level 22, it has been painful....
he's died a bunch of times while i re-learned how things work in this game..
so far...
i really like this game.

what i really want...
(wish they would put out a macro to play my lute with, but other than that....)
(" i'd even cut my hair and change my name...." (nickleback) )
