Thinking of trying EQOAFollow

#1 Jun 16 2007 at 6:59 AM Rating: Decent
Hey was just wondering if someone could help anwser a few of mine questioins about EQOA?
1.Is this game is more like EQ/EQ2/WOW PC game. I've played all 3 first starting with EQ for about 4 1/2 years, then EQ2 for 1 1/2, and most recently WOW for about 1/2 year.
2.Raids: My biggest problem is raid times, because I work night shifts at a hospital(resp therapist) on Fri, Sat, and Sun on EST. With EQ 1 and 2 me, my wife, and best friend(works at same hospital(RN, almost Nurse Practitioner 1 year left lol) and hours)actually were on Korean guilds because of the times they raided. Does anyone know if there are any guilds that raid in AM's(7AM-10AM)starting times? If not, is it enough to raid MON-THUR anytime and not get kick out of a guild(happened in WOW). Also what is the cap limit on members in raids? 20ppls, 40ppls, etc.
3.Set-up: I have my PS2 connected to the internet to play Madden 07(my other bad habit). My playstation is one of those slim deals lol. Do I have to buy a Network Adapter or will the connection I have now work? Sorry if that is a retarted question! Buying the game also: I have seen the game for sale used at a Gamestop and was wondering if it is safe to buy used or only buy new for account?
4.Last question is about boxing, grouping, low levels, etc. One of the most fun for me and my best friend ever had been leveling up during EQ1. We both started right after the Kunark expansion and played 1 toon each. It was a great time then in EQ. As time went on our guild disbanded(Aasadal)and more ppl left the game we started alts on different comps(3 accounts each) and played LDON by ourselves, until EQ2. When we switched to EQ2 we said what the hell and did 3 accounts on it also. He thought it took the fun out of leveling and now I think a agree. We never grouped with anyone but ourselves or guildies so leveling was easy, but I think it took alot of fun out of it? If we start up this late in EQOA would we even find more players? Should we box 2 toons each to have a full group or try 1 each?

Sorry about all the questions, but I'm looking for something new and hoping this may be it! Thanks!

1. eqoa is differnet from all the computer games. using the controller makes the fighting a little more fast paced

2. really depends on the guild. I do know of some guilds that do raiding during the week, but the majority of eqoa players do seem to come on during the weekend, but guilds do raid during the week as well. I seriously doubt you will get booted from a guild if you cant raid during the weekend.

3. your ps2 will work fine. eqoa works with dial-up or broadband. I would recommend high speed. DO NOT buy a used copy of EQOA, each disc as a account key. once that was activiated, you cant use that key to start another account. just order a copy of eqoa Frontiers from the official website.

4. if you are planing to mostly play eqoa with your friends, you will have no problem leveling your character at lower levels, since the game is not a big seller in stores anymore, the majority of characters now are all near or at 60. But if you and your friends level your toons evenly, you will have no problem at all since you will never have to search for a group. Many players today dual box, even 3 or 4 at a time. I would recommend only dual boxing at the start if you dont have 4 people to play with you. if you have a full group worth of friends playing, just start out playing 1 toon each getting the hang of the game and then work your way to 2 or more toons at once. I been playing for 4 years now and just began dual boxing.

Well I hope you enjoy EQOA and so do your friends, Nowadays word-of-mouth is the best way to grow this game

1- I never played the PC versions so I can only gess Damian is right. Having played those games will help you with EQOA since stratagies, etc. are all relativly the same.

2- Raiding does depend on your guild 99% of the time. The other 1% is YOU. Quite often I find myself running with other guilds doing raids simply because I have friends in other guilds. I ran with them, and for some odd reason they seem to like me.

Another factor for raiding is population. I 'believe' that Castle Lightwolf is the most populated server. I also 'believe' PPO and Hodstock serves are populated enough to raid nearly all (if not all) the highest end mobs. However raids throughout the week (on Hod for sure) are more sporadic but do happen.

Agreed. You should get a 'NEW' copy of the disk. You mut attach your account to an unused Key Code when you first sign up. After you sign up and have a key code to an account, you can use whatever disk, but you need to tie your account to an UNUSED code. The last 2 disks I got i did get NEW off of ebay that worked just fine.
Also, as long as your PS will connect to the internet, you will be good to go. So it sounds like yours will be just fine

4- As far as XPn, there are still some people who do group XP. Alot of people Power Level...which in most cases is bad. EXAMPLE: last week, after out tank (60 DEFENDER) got us killed 3 times, I took over tankin with my Cleric...and I only have about 800 CMs, he had way more than me. But that was his 1st tank toon he ever used and he PLd him the whole way to 60.
Alchemists and Wizzy's never have a hard time getting PL'd since Dual-Boxers always need them for damage. IF you do PL's on classes you have never used before, be sure to occasionally run out to kill some dark greens- light blues to get the hang of how to use your toon at least a bit.

NEWB NOTES:
-Get the free coaches you can before you get too high in level. Pretty much no matter where you start from, you can get Freeport, Queynos, and Halas before you pass level 10 (if you pass level 10, you may have to run em). you can also get Blackwater, I think you have to be under level 35. You can use Frontiers to connect Freeport (east coast) to Highbourne (west coast).
-When you are compfortable with the feel of the game, don't be afraid to run the coaches at least once. When you do be sure to have a tunaria map (particularly one like the Tunaria map at:
http://macsingz.tripod.com/id72.html
so you don't spend 4 hours running up and down an impassible mountain).
-Check what things go for on Auction before you sell. While I do enjoy buying a Heartsblood Alloy for 750 Tunar, I still feel I need to give this peice of advice.
-Help others and don't be afraid to ask for help.

-Lastly, Personal Note: if someone helps you for 2 mins, don't be so quick to send a Buddy List Invite. Save your Buddy List for your Buddies. I always accept when people send them, but 97% get deleted the next time I log on. Quite a few people I had on BL then removed still send Blind tells to me ingame asking me for help with no reguard to what I'm doing. I already had 1 try to yell at me because I didn't answer him for a few mins, when I was in the middle of Clankin 4 or 5 Snyder Manifests.

I know I'm not the only one who helps new players. The best population I believe is Castle Lightwolf Server, but if you start on Hodstock, let me know.

EDIT- I think has been my longest post ever :p
