Hey everybody.

I was a World of Warcraft player for the past year or so, but I just lost interest.

Yesterday I bought, installed, and activated an account on this game. I am now a level 6 jedi standing in Mos Eisley.

First of all, I'd like to ask if anyone has experienced crashes to their desktop on this game? I have played for hours and the game has crashed once or twice.

Is the Jedi an ok profession, or should I start over now? Will I survive later on in the game?

I feel a bit overwhelmed by all there is to take in. Could anyone recommend any good guides or tutorials to help me get started?

I have many questiona, but I cant seem to bring them all to mind. I really want to enjoy this game, and I would love it if everyone could put in their advice and answers.

Thank you.

Welcome to SWG :)

I very rarely have crashing issues, even playing for long times.
Jedi's seem to be very popular, so i would think they do good at the higher end too, but thats not from first hand exp( I havnt ran a Jedi ).

Do you know anyone in SWG? If not then go around the starting city's, kill the lower end mobs. EXP so you get a few lvls. If its critters your killing, always right click on the corpse to get a harvest option.. normally there are 3 choices, hides, bones, and meat. You can only harvest once per corpse. Get one of each, and look at the stats of the hides/meat/bones.. if any list it as having a Overall Qulity (OQ) of 700 or more then just get those.. if none are that high on OQ then just save the hides. you can sell this stuff easy on the bazaar for 5 credits each...maby more. (its the red machines, normaly around the bank machines which are green)

There are several NPC's around Mos Eisly space station, talk to them, and see if you can pick up any quests.

If you see anyone around your lvl talk to them, and see if they would like to group, tell them your brand new too.

dunno if this will work..

Jedi is ok, not the best by a long way. but i enjoy it.

Top end jedi is fine, but you might find it a little difficult through the middle.

Jedi cannot wear armour like other proff who can get buy full on top line armour from a vendor somewhere around cl 22 if they have the funds , where as jedi get only robes, these robes have to be looted, and only come in 2 versions for each level along the way with a set level of protection CL's 20 40 60 80 i think. (there are a number of sets of cloaks available once you get lvl 80, they too are loot only, althou the cloacks i beleive are bio-linked so you can buy them from vendors where as the robes are no trade so you have to be there to loot them) Having to rely on the robes for protection till you can use robes also limits the number of stated items you can wear to boost your stats.

But you can loot special jedi items along the way that can offer some protection, but with my loot leper ways i have no idea if they can be better than the robes, everything i have ever looted was worse.

And now i have forgot what i was saying......... i get lost when its not about space lol

Anyway follow your legacy missions have fun, enjoy your self and may the force be in you.

Well my Jedi is now level 10, and I am loving it.

I fixed my crash issues, but I have a couple more questions.

I have a good framerate, but a lot of times, mostly when I am outside away from Mos Eisly on Tantooine, I start to get these delays. I may attack something, but it will be a few seconds before my attacks registers and everything zooms into place. This doesnt happen that often, but it is noticable. Any input on that?

Also, how long will it take me to get to 90? This is out of curiosity.

And I was wondering about the smuggler class. If I wanted to make a character to fare well in space and maybe be a shipwright, would a smuggler be a good choice? Does that particular profession have any relevance to space? Or would a trader be a better choice?

Thanks for the replies so far, and I will continue to check this thread.

Everyones input is appreciated. Thank you.

-Nazgul

EDIT: Id like to make a new character, either a trader or maybe a smuggler/bounty hunter/commando (something ranged). Would anyone be interested in creating a new character with me or helping me out?

Just tell me which server!

Being as your sorta new and all, I'd say the best thing to do would be to join an active guild...Because if your in an active guild theres always someone on that will help you out...Well at least in my guild anyways...So if you play on the Eclipse server, send a mail my way and we'll get you squared away....My info can be found below...

I have played every profession at lest up till lvl 20. Most are a pain in the *** but Jedi is pretty easy. Once you can craft your own Light Saber it gets a little easier. I suggest useing your Expertise points in the dark side of the force, they have great powers for pvp.

My advice to you is to do the legacy quest, its also a kind of tutorial in itself so its worth sticking with, and its the only real way of gaining xp. if you can then group with someone doing the same quests as you, or at the same stage of the legacy quest, it won't affect the xp much - the xp from kills is a small fraction of the quest xp after all, and you'll probably have more fun doing the quests too. my advice when joining guilds is to try and find one with plenty of active members, although if they're all level 90 then they won't be much help to you, except for handouts and advice that is :D
also, avail yourself of entertainer buffs, they last for about 5 hours or so, and can seriously affect how well you do, you can't wear armour, but an entertainer can give you 3750 energy and kinetic resist, and i think a bonus to your criticals, and stats, i wouldnt bother with the xp bonus because i dont think it affects quest xp, i would advise boosting your strength and endurance, though perhaps other jedi's ? might have a better idea on the more beneficial buffs. As for grouping, try and make a few friends to group with, you'll need the help on some of the quests.

I might not understand your question, but hope this will help.
A ship wright is its own class.. SW= Trader-Structures/Ship Wright
A smuggler is his own class just like your Jedi is.
Any Toon, even traders can be a ACE Pilot (master) cause piloting/space cbt is based on your skill ( the skill of the player sitting at the keyboard) and doesnt have anything to do of what type of character you run.

that lag you mentioned i get as well, i think its server wide really, cause when me and my gf are playing and she is at her house we both get the same lag even though she lives 50 miles away.

Ohh, and btw. what server do you play on?

As far as combat classes...Commando is second only to Jedi. BH is fun becaues you can get to hunt players sometimes....usually for big creds...and it's fun if you jump the target when they don't know you coming...muwhahahahaha! Crafters are a good time too, and they make you money...that always good. If you are on Bria, Lowca, or Tempest I have established toons and can help with what you need. If not follow the previous posts...find an active guild...thier help will indespesible and will help you get more established yourself.

I have my Jedi on Bloodfin, but I want to make a Trader or a ranged profession, and I might make one on one of the servers you all mentioned.

Thanks a lot for the help.

I agree, you should stick with the legacy. And i get those lags all too often. I get the lags more or less depending on the server i'm in. I have people on Interpid, Bria and Europe-Chimera if you need any help. As for smuggler and space, i had a smuggler for 3 months and none of the quests had anything to do with space. And to answer your subject, you dont need to know anything except killing stuff=xp, quests=xp, legacy=good and when you are fighting something, gray=easy kill, blue=should be able to kill it, white= maybe, red= shouldnt be able to kill it. Purple= 9/10 chance youll kill it depending on how much higher lvls it is than you

Lag has been a major issue in this game from the beginning, but it gradually got worse as more "features" (especially the particle effects) were added. If you're spoiled by WoW-caliber smoothness, abandon hope now. The reason is, this game manages a huge array of variables on every object, far beyond what Blizzard attempted. You have houses, and often hundreds of items in those houses, and items like guns and armors with individualized stats based on the quality of the resources that made them, and characters with a great deal more customizability in their appearances than is the case with WoW. All in all, a data-management nightmare.
