Nerfing JEDIFollow

#77 Jul 19 2007 at 10:38 AM Rating: Good
Lol, nerf this class nerf that class.. I dont think people really realize how easy it actually is to kill a jedi. and to the poster that said get 5 jedi on you and your screwed.... if you get 5 of any combination of classes on you, you are pretty much screwed. but if we want to get into the nitty gritty of things.

sure, we have saber block, which was nerfed drastically in % to block ranged, but also blocks melee now, nice for pve. other than elder cloaks, the best they can have their resists at from armor is 5600 from JMC. Armor wearers also have the possibility of 4 more slots to toss attachments on. not to mention they cant really do jack if someone decides to kite them around.

so because you cant kill a jedi, they all need to be nerfed, heh, i think you just need to look at your ownself and learn what the heck you are doing as your class. if you are trying to go toe to toe within melee range of a jedi, well that is your own damned fault.

i do however agree with the fact that there are too many noobish jedi running around. it reminds me of Rangers in EQ and Hunters in WoW... they are everywhere, but actually finding a really good one is sometimes difficult.

the one thing that probably gets under my skin the most about a lot of jedi is the fact that they are hunted in this part of the timeline. a lot more jedi survived the purge than the general population believes. but they survive simply by hiding and blending in. in game it both makes me laugh and irritates me when i see an RP tag on a jedi who is running around in public with his saber blazing and using all sorts of force abilities. but that is just me i suppose, i guess when i see an RP tag one would assume that that person is playing their characters roll.

anyway im rambling lol

LOL.....this really makes me laugh, jedis are to strong! you should learn a bit more on how to play this game. There is only 2 jedis on my server that i can't take down every time. Spys are harder to kil...LOL. When killing jedis you have to keep moving, don't just stand there like a fool. Maybe if you started from the begining and did not buy your way into this game you would know this. Come to our server and see how it is done. I think you should nerf yourself you NOOB.

The game would be so much better if they set it back to the original proffessions. Everyones right, way to many jedi are running around. I don't mind if we have a few. But at least make it hard to get, like before NGE when a Jedi was super rare.

in the original game, you unlocked jedi pretty much by mastering all the professions, impractical imo, because all it did was bias the game towards grinding out professions, rather than actually just playing the game.
with the advent of the village, where anyone could grind out jedi after getting a visit from the old man, it became easier, but again, the focus of the game was on 'grind'

and now of course, anyone can be a jedi, and the profession is a mere shadow of what it used to be, what they should have done in the first place, is not have the jedi class as a player class, but only as an npc encounter type of event, but allow anyone who took fencing etc, to use the lightsabre, or polearms the dualbladed lightsaber, etc, traits could then have been introduced as a seperate entity, that was seperate to the various professions, and perhaps would have introduced force powers... well.. too late now anyway..

The Village made it easier? Not really. Unlocking Jedi became even more of a grind than before, since it was fairly easy to grind any of the profs to master. From Novice Brawler to Master TK/Master Swordsman took about a week and a half. Novice Artisan to Master DE took about 3 weeks, 99% of that time spent gathering the resources needed to grind it out, and much of that 3 weeks was spent getting the Master TK/Master Swordsman combo while various harvesters chugged away. Average time there? About a week per class, and that was solo. I had also mastered Shipwright briefly but got bored with that.

I never bothered to go whole hog on the class grind to unlock Jedi, I was more busy just having fun with those profs that looked interesting to me. I did work the Village quests, but wasn't dedicated to it the way many other players were, so that by the time the NGE plague struck down so much of the game's population, I still needed 1 more skill unlock to complete the Village.
Still, I did grind out the skills that I had unlocked, and I can say that the crafting skill took far longer to grind to max than grinding all of master artisan, master DE, and master SW combined. Some of the quests for the Village were a major pain in the rear, and perhaps impossible (or nearly so) to do without help.

As for keeping or deleting Jedi - I play a Jedi character now, but only because it seems the most interesting of the classes. I would have no problem at all seeing all Jedi removed from the game...but not until the game was restored to a Pre-NGE state. Whether that would be Pre-CU or Post-CU is immaterial (though I'd prefer post) just so long as this Iconic Classes *BS* was scrapped, and a return to the days when we could mix and match and configure out characters however we pleased was effected.

As for the issue of whether Jedi should be nerfed or not:
I sat on Mustafar watching some people doing the quest where you had to kill that rampaging Tulrus. I watched a pair of Jedi, a lvl 88 and a lvl 85 go after it solo, both got their rears handed to them. I watched a Commando, lvl 82, go after it and win with little problem. Watched a Medic do the same, at lvl 79. Saw a few other non-jedi, classes unknown, of various levels go up against the thing solo and most beat it. Now, those Jedi I watched might very well have been noobs, and all the other lower level players extremely proficient with their classes. I don't know. I do know that trying to base an opinion on whether to nerf a class or not just because that class can avoid being killed just by running away or cloaking, and tend to win any PvP in which the other combatant tries to stand there going toe to toe in melee with the Jedi is just plain stupid. Basing an opinion on whether to nerf a class based on PvP at all is stupid. So what if class A is super strong in PvP if they get slaughtered in PvE? If you want to cry for balance, or nerfing, or whatever then base that on the game as a whole and not one portion of it.

My account ran out July 19th .. And I really dont give a crap.. you all can run around thinking SWG is the sh*t and there is nothing out there better.. living in your own little world of MMO bliss .. I went back to the real title holder of the MMO belt .. no names need apply since there only going to get opinionated anyway..

Just thought i would give you all something else to ***** about which I belive you all will its all i ever read on here anyway. And its pathetic on how this thread managed to go this far even though I bumped it, it still went pretty far before I did that. I was jokin about nerfing Jedi I could care less .. the game is nothing but a joke anyway I played City of Heroes for a bit and i think its ten time better than this game.. SWG is like the bottom of the sh*t pot for MMO's its going no where fast and the SOE cant even afford to clean there servers the right way cause they dont get enough revenue in to keep the servers clean.. thats why most of you have sh*t loads of lag in some spots .. and trust me its not the PC's falt for lag I play WoW and i have no lag at all then i get on SWG and get lagged out like crazy.. its a crappy *** game. So you all have fun nit pickin this comment and go back to your sh*tty *** mmo while i play lag free on the best mmo to hit the planet ever.. later pukes

Well wish I could say i'm sorry to see you go. But i'm not, this game is really improved by your leaving. Just one less moron that refuses to learn to play a class whining for a I win button. I hope you enjoy going back to World of Noobcraft and your nelf/belf rogue/hunter. Where your uber elite skillz are more recongnized by all the other little kids. If you give me a few days i'm sure i'll feel sadness at the loss of another trash talking little kid.

the trouble is, when you put swg up against other games, you see all the things that are wrong with it, never mind that most of the servers are empty, thats not the problem, its just a symptom of the problem, its a game with desperate need of more content, relying on pvp is just not enough, especially when pvp in swg is handled as badly as it is. then theres the empty worlds, i dont mean empty of players, i mean empty, as in a practically sterile environment, far too much is underutilised, random creatures wandering around isnt good enough.

How about this? What if everone just shut the F**K UP about how one class beat the S**T out of another and that it should be nerfed. Why don't we keep going on, learn how to use the class you choose to it's full extent. Not just get to lvl 90 as quick as possible, use the best expertise abilities and beat everyone by using the same few moves over and over again. Find a strategy and find tactics that you know works against a particular class. How do you find these? Well..... all you need to do is go pvp combat and get you *** kicked however many times it takes for you to realize that those same moves over and over again won't cut it. I'm a Jedi my self, but only lvl 65, and I've only been playing for about a year and half, so I don't pvp much at all. But I've read forum posts like these so, I don't run around like an idiot trying to act like I'm the ultimate Star Wars Galaxies PVP'er. SO WHAT? Who gives a crap? If you're a noob who is "really good" at pvp, then good for you...you get a cookie!! If you think that a proffesion is overpowered, then try playing that proffession and see how hard it is. Today's society is based around the lazy-*** person. All everone wants is to have everything they want right there and then, and claim that they're the best at whatever without actually earning what they've got. This descibes most noobs in SWG, basicly. To all you noobs out there that read this post, quit your complaining and ENJOY THE GAME, GET OVER YOUR SELFISH LITTLE PROPOSISIONS THAT A PROFFESION BE NERFED SO YOU CAN BE ALL POWERFULL, IT'S A GAME!!!!!!. If you're crying so much about it, get a damn life, if you don't like it you don't have to play. Oh did you not know that? Well now you know. People need to learn to stop being so damn selfish, that's what's wrong with this world. Everyone's selfish and doesn't get along. Part of the game is to make friends, not enimies.

P.S If you are a noob and don't have complaints and read this, then you can disregard.
P.S.S How the hell did this go from complaining about Jedi to Arguing about the relation of Mando, Clone, and Storm Trooper armor, and back to Jedi complaints? WTF?

i wouldnt quite put it the same way, but, i can't really disagree with him, the society we live in does seem to be a me me me, i want it right now, kind of thing, and yes i think its lazy too. being good in PVP isnt about being maximum level, and having all the best equipment, its about being able to use those skills coherently too. anybody who just stands there and just presses buttons in the hope of winning, is unlikely to do well. and i'd say 90 percent of the nerf calls are probably based on personal ignorance of their own professions.
