Why so much lag?Follow

#1 Jun 24 2007 at 7:37 PM Rating: Decent
According to the system requirements page i found i meet all the recommended stuff to play this game but im always lagging specially in cities. I have an old video card but according to the page i found it said only need 64mb from my graphics card and i have 256. My exact video card is ATi Radeon 9550. I have 512 ram and 1.51Ghz. And my connection is good. I have my graphics quality on SWG as low as it can go and my fps is still around 10 when walking. Im stuck on racing part of legacy quests because my average fps when riding a speeder bike is 1. So please help me out. What can i do to fix this. Is it a problem with my video card because ive been told a 256mb card should do fine since you only need 32mb to play.

512mb of RAM is a minimum requirement.....that is where your chugging is coming from. I can't even run the game with 486mb free on my laptop. Upgrade your memory at leaset 128 mb it will make a huge difference. but you should have about a gig for the smoothest results. I run 2 gig...I hate stutter!

1gig ram = big difference.

disable all your graphic settings by clicking on OPTIONS instead of PLAY on the launch screen then push O in game and disable all of those ones too

Too bad you can't disable weapon particle effects. My old gaming rig was an Athlon XP-1700+ with a Radeon 9600 Pro vid card. The rig ran beautifully for a long time, but when the devs went crazy with the Commando and Medic particle effects, combat brought my system to its knees. Worst was a foray to the Avatar Platform, in which my frame rate dropped to ONE frame per second.

I've upgraded to a dual-core Athlon 3800Ghz with 2 gigs of DDR-2/566 memory and a midgrade video card, but I haven't yet gotten back into the game. Not sure if the game's worth the effort.

Lag also depends on your internet connection, traffic on the server, any scripts scheduled to run on said server at that time, you rigs backround processes, and any anit-viruses and firewalls. You can't blame the game for everything. Even though people go and get a gaming rig, they don't run it clean. Becaues most gaming boxes are the home computer as well so you have spyware programs scaning all info coming in as well as anti-virus doing the same thing. Firewalls and Malware removers. Then you have ISP network issues, as well as internet network issues. I have rig a little better than what you had listed, my frame rate pretty much stays at 30(which is the max) unless coming and going from starport or changing areas. Then it lags a bit loading the terrian and buildings, but that has improved simce the house packing started. So if you are experiencing problems you might wanna check your rig as well as rippin the game. Disable some of those backround processes that might help. Run some trace routes and see if there is a slow down on your network...the first 6 hops are all your ISP for the most part. I have always read how people complaining about lag...I yet to see any that really crushes my system other than the spammers right outside of the starports but I have an interesting fix for that...the iggy box...what a wonderful feature.

definitely the amount of ram you have in your computer is a major factor affecting the games framerate, its creating a bottleneck effectively, that is limiting whatever benefits your graphics card or processor would give you. i personally would say that for the game to be playable, then the minimum requirement is 1gb, with anything over that being a definite bonus.
