Standard money question from standard noob.Follow

#1 Jul 02 2007 at 12:05 AM Rating: Excellent
Now I'm going to ask you guys a very dumb question you've probably heard before, but how on earth can I make 'easy' money in this game? In FFXI and WoW I was always playing the gatherer (mining, skinning, harvesting, lumbering and stuff) roles. But when I take a look at the auction house, I can't see a direct need of raw materials.

Thanks in advance.

edit: Spelling and fixed title.

1- farm things that noone else can, sell them...if youre 40+ the best way to make money would be farming pages for traits...but those dont drop like candy.

2- farm easy mobs that have a good amount of money on them. example: a spot i go to has mobs that are lower level...but thier elite so noone really camps them...they drop on average 13s a body, and all i do is sit on auto attack.

3- pimp yourself out Smiley: grin ...Darqflame loves having people to pimp

Alright, but farming mobs for gold looks like stuff for the later levels. How about a level 10 character? The Goblins I kill tend to drop around 4 copper each. Knowing that a new full set of store bought medium armor and a 1h weapon cost around 50 silver, I have to kill 1000 goblins to get it.Smiley: yikes

And because I don't feel like making another thread for it: Are there any add-ons that are worth downloading?

Never use store bought stuff, you get alot of armor and weapons from quests...and I mean alot. Even in my 40's Im changing my gear once a week. But if you do have the cash to spare you can often find a good deal or two in the Auction Hall...probably even with decent stats. By the time you hit 15 you should get a good feel of how much gear you'll be seeing as you continue to level up.

Also...if you do have "Explorer" as a skill (tailor, forester, prospector) you can always go out, mine a bunch of ore and wood...and straight up sell it to merchants...the market is very unstable and will be for awhile until the game gets more of a mix of different level people.

The only addons are different skins, which can be found HERE

Copper ore frequently sells in the AH for 4sp, sometimes 5sp each. This is a Tier 1 ore. I think alot of people leveled up but didn't craft, so now they're playing catch-up and just buying the ore they need instead of going back and farming low level areas. Hides sell pretty good as well, wood sells ok. I made my main an explorer, and have been able to make pretty good money and my alts all craft above thier experience level.

I allways play the gatherer myself as well. I find more enjoyment in farming and bartering for my items than trying to raise a craft.

In LOTRO I went Explorer. This gives you the ability to Farm Wood, Ores, and also Tailoring (since anyone can farm hides). This is the equivalent of going Skinning and Mining in WoW really. All the Ore sells decently, and you can even smelt them to Ingots (Bronze at first, never copper) and they still sell well and this allows you to farm better ores. I have had 0 problems making money this way and keeping my forestry and prospecting leveled up.

Once you get to a new tier of prospecting or forestry, you can just farm and sell the wood/ores for this tier and not craft them for a bit more profit. This money will add up faster than anything else I have seen in this game so far. You get to sell Ores, Hides, and Wood with no real cost. I know it does not seem like much to be selling Copper ores for 150 silver, but 150 silver is not chump change at level 15-20 for 50 ores and you will quickly find yourself getting better ores that sell for more money.

I agree it is kind of sad, all the hard work people do to increase skills in jewlrey, cooking, farming, and all the rest.... stuff dosen't sell very well.

Time spent at a forge or crafting table is a hard way to make $$. Farm the supplies they need and sell them. It's alot easier then trying to remember does my alt have heavy cloth feet recipe???

Dyes do sell for a fortune to high end players.

Some people really don't pay attention to what equipment they are wearing. I was in a group over the weekend and the main tank kept dying. I check out what he was wearing and 1/2 his slots were empty.

Save money, don't go to the AH to buy. Well, not often anyway. Best start would be to craft your own armour, kinships can help out with this, especially with the areas you might not be able to craft the items for. (weapons for instance,...)

Doesn't always go easy though, can take a lot of boring time simply harvesting.

Sell what you don't need, ores should sell all the time. Hides should sell well too.

Right now I just mine, save the barrow iron and rich iron for getting my masters (if I ever find enough copper to get past the first part in my metalsmith section) and sell all my gold as white gold. For some reason I don't use it myself, price isn't all bad.

Questing provides good armour and weapons. Not to mention money, although that's not a lot at first.

It all comes down to a bit of grinding though, either harvesting or slaughtering mobs.

Still, without doing much I do have 2 gold at lvl 30.
