Horses;

I am approaching level 32 with my main character and have gathered the 4.3 Gold needed to buy a horse, but before I make the plunge got a few questions.

1. How many different types of horses are they?
2. Or are all horses the same apart from colour?
3. Anything else I need to be aware of?

1) There are only two available models of horse. These are "Horse" (for elf and human only) and "Pony" (for dwarf and hobbit only). Each is available in your choice of 4 colors. These include Blond Sorrel, Bay, Chestnut, and Blood Bay. All move at the same speed and carry the same cost.

2) Yes, there are no other differences beyond color between them.

3) You can't get your horse until lvl 35. There is a four part quest line you must complete to prove that you are "worthy" of purchasing a horse.

This quest line consists of three timed delivery quests during which you must ride a horse from the stables and deliver it to three different locations before a generous timer expires and finally a timed race during which you are required to ride around a large circuit and cross through 12 gates before a not-so-generous timer expires!

These quests are a lot of fun and at lvl 35 all mobs are gray to you.

Technically it is more like Light Brown, Brown, Dark Brown, Dark Redish Brown... But close enough! Notice the brown theme though? Smiley: lol

Personally I didn't have any trouble with the final timed quest thing. I did finish with just a little of the bar left, but I didn't find it that hard. Just hug the wall and jump over some walls whenever possible (making sure to hit the gates) and you'll be fine.

One thing to bear in mind is the recent changes to horses making them of questionable use to some of us.

All skills are immediately turned off when mounting, making you have to redo them every time you get off or get aggroed and dumped off.

Going over some hills/mt areas (read as very low hills or bumps on a mtn.) will cause you to "fall" off the horse, necessitating remounting unless you have aggro.

Horses do not outrun mobs as a rule unless you are running at an angle away from one. So the odds of getting aggro from something in a dangerous area and dumped off are much higher now.

#8REDACTED, Posted: Jul 05 2007 at 6:40 AM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) I hated doing the horse quests. Basically they made you run all over the place and if you fell off you had to start from the beginning. horrible quest
