Best job for 56k user?Follow

Hiyah!

I'm new to the game, but my wife has been playing for a while. (I sound old... I'm only 22!) I started as a Spy, but after thinking about it, on 56k, it would probably make more sense to be a trader/entertainer, and I thought being a trader would be pretty fun. My ping isn't that bad really (130ms-200ms) but it does lag a little when I kill something sometimes, like me shooting something more than it needs to die.

What do you guys think?

If you had taken the time to read my post, or knew anything at all about how servers and users send data back and forth, you wouldn't have made such a silly post.

I'm not even going to go into massive detail about your silly "It would be like trying to shove a basketball through a garden hose." statment.

just because there is more water down the public line doesn't mean it's just NOT going to come out of the water hose, even if a hydrant will spew gallons and gallons it a matter of seconds.

And are you sure you are from the US? You type like english is your second language.

As for the the job, I'm sticking with spy, it runs fine even on my 56k, albeit a little jumpy at times.

I wasen't mean. If this forum is meant to help people, then he failed to do that.

if he's trying to find the best profession for his problematical connection, then he's pretty much limited to entertainer or trader, as all the others probably come under the heading of 'cannon fodder' seriously though, i didnt know people still had dial up connections these days, live and learn i guess :D

I thank you all for the defence, but to be honest...he showed how much he really knows, and how much he does not. He tries to play a MMO on a dial up, That in itself is a crime, let alone not being able to take critisim about his little lame box, his hardware, and how he administers said computer. If had really wanted answers he would have given us more info and taken the advice for what it is....simple suggestions. If he can't whats the word I'm looking for....Oh Yea! Noob or Lamer....both fit.

P.S. If he really did know anything, he would know that 56k mean 56k split for up and down. Clicky....(Frame skip by the way is the technical term)that would be an understatement....I have run this game on a basic connection for about 3 days while th ISP worked on my connection.....256k up and down. I had lag big time...so "Clicky"...ok...live in your fantasy world.

it's all good....*hides the rope and gasoline*....he would really have a good time as a trader though... I am....I have 3 now;) a DE and 2 shipwrights...in PVP.....he will get pwned alot on dial up...specially when the effects start to explode around him....he will creep to a 1 fps halt.

There is a respec npc outside mos eisley starport. The first time is free or at least very cheap the last time I checked but the cost starts to escalate the more you decide to respec your skills.

actually, the effects from combat sometimes are nothing compared to the ones you get from a full spec artiste with an entertainment droid doing their thing :D

in some of my more eviler moments (!) i've had a band playing outside mos eisley starport, full effects/flourishes and a droid with a 5 second effects spam, full monty :D
its a bit of a stress tester for those whose machines and connection arent what they should be, causes them no end of lag, and makes the 'pvp' kiddies go play somewhere else :D

... not that in any way am i advocating the disruption of pvp activities outside of starports ;D

... im surprised you dont have lag, i can only guess you play on a relatively quiet server?

amd64 3.4, 1.5gb ram, nvidia 6800gt256mb and an 8mbs adsl... on xp, i asked if we should upgrade to vista, but he just laughed at me, apparently its a bit of a moose.

Well I played on my brothers computer, and on 56k it's honestly not horrible, just sometimes you sit there and nothing happens and a lot of skips.

I forgot to mention, I did heavly edit the display options, and it helped a bunch.

I guess people forget the original game is very old and ran on almost anything! I have a feeling most lag skips would be coming from the server, as SoE isn't exactly known for their servers.
