Camera control questionFollow

Is there a way to unlock the camera from it's 6 o'clock position and make it free floating? Basically I want to make it act similar to the camera in FFXI. I know you can rotate it around your character, but it is locked wherever you move it to.

edit: the text was showing up wierd in my first post so I am copying it in another color.

Hold down your left mouse button and move your mouse around. Is that what you mean? Sorry its too early for me and not quite grasping what your asking for...

I think there is a setting that lets the camera automatically follow the terrain (so you are not looking into a hill as you go up it) but the camera will not rotate around your character to give optimal viewing unless you do it manually.

I'll look for that setting. But what I mean is to make the camera independent of the character. If you use the left mouse button to move the camera around and let go, it stays in that spot relative to the character, and it will move when they turn. That's what I don't want.

I see what you mean now, and no I haven't found anything like that yet Smiley: frown If I find it I'll let you know.

I usually work it by using the arrow-only keys (not the numpad arrows) to control direction/movement and hold the left mouse button to control camera angle independant of moving. If someone/thing is chasing you, you can keep moving in one direction and swing the camera to see what is following.

You can quit-hit the right mouse button to align your character to whichever way the camera is pointing. I use that method to straighten out the characacter veiw. If you hold the right mouse button and move the pointer, your character will face whichever way the camera faces.

There is a setting for this, it is in UI settings I think. I can not remember how it is worded (i am at work) but it is close to the setting that allows the camera to auto adjust to slope. Bascially, if this setting is clicked, the camera will auto move behind your character when you character begins to move, unless you are holding the left mouse button. If the setting is not checked, the camera will stay in position you set it while you move unless you change it or hit Right click (to set your character in that direction and the camera behind you again).

It is not EXACTLY as it is in FFXI, but the effect is pretty similar, leading me to ussually run around with WASD and set my camera manually with left click. Once set, I can turn camera, to say and Enemy, and run circles around the enemy while my camera stays facing that direction. This takes some getting used too though.
