How to bring more life to the bars.Follow

Now before anyone says anything, I know this would be better suited for the official forums, but I wanted to get some ideas from you guys before I head that way. :)

To me it would bring a lot of staying power to lotro if they added more life and trivial things to the bars of middle earth, especially the big named ones like The Green Dragon and the Prancing Pony. When I am passing by either of these bars and its night time in game, I always stop by and have a drink, especially if its 1404. :) But I am always the only one. The question is, what can they add that will get people to come out? In order to get people to come out they have to make it worth it. Either by rewards or a slow recharge of destiny points or by some other means. I am just a market analyst and by no means a programmer, so I don't know how hard it would be to program these things, but from my perspective if you want to keep people around long term you have to give them a world they can live in, not simply visit to kill a mob or grind a deed.

So with that said, here are some of my ideas.

-Drinking games, similar to the one from the summer festival but specific to 1 bar.
-Card games and darts, gambling would be nice but not sure if it would effect the ERSP rating, and maybe some casino type games.
-NPC Minstrels and Bards who alternate /emote stories, either about local history or famous heroes.

I have a few more but I am not sure if they are worth mentioning. What do you guys think?

I wouldn't mind seeing something like what you propose added to the game, but I'm a casual "stop and smell the roses" gamer. Bar games and such appeal to players like myself, and to roleplayers. I doubt the majority of gamers would participate other than to try it once, go "ZOMG this is teh lame" and never set foot in a pub again. But Turbine has a little bit different mindset from other developers, and LOTRO seems to have a bit more of a casual and RPer player base than alot of other games, so suggestions like yours have some merit.

tl;dr version: I like the idea, but I'm not sure how many other players would care.Smiley: grin

Sounds like a good idea. Would perhaps increase lag in theese pubs for ppl who already have noticable lag in crowded areas. No lag for me tho :P

Fun idea.

i like the idea. fits the mood perfectly--wayfaring across eriador, stop in to a pub to get out of the elements, and hang with th e locals and fellow travellers for a bit, passing the time with diversions.

something i'd like to see: there are npcs practicing archery at most towns--i'd love it if those bullseyes opened up and players could either practice, compete against the npcs, or compete against each other,or each other and the npc.

maybe offer titles for competitions--say the higher level towns ahve well known archers who are danged tough to beat, etc.

i know that doesn't fit the lore, but i can't imagine most ME archers could resist a target for long. =)

Those ideas sounds like a lot of fun. And they shouldn't be that hard to implement in the game.

How does the night and day time work?
I don't like having to refer to WoW myself, but it seems necessary as i've just come from there; is it like that in terms of the day/night system, real time?

IIRC, LOTRO has a 3-hour day/night cycle.

Ahhhh shall feel odd getting used to that cycle after playing WoW for a good 2 years xD

But change is very good!

Thanks for the info.

You'll get used to it in no time. It's actually a good thing, since there are a few quests that you can only do at night. So if it was real time and you only played during the day...

Actually, I remember when WoW was still in beta. People were complaining pretty loudly about the "real-time" game clock, since most previous games had a shorter day-night cycle. Guess it's just what you're used to.

Well I like the sound of the day/night cycle indeed i'd say anyway, I think i'll prefer it!

Infact I definately will, bit of variation whilst playing =D

Btw, How's the weather system in the game??

There's weather in the game. Rain, thunder, lightning in temperate areas, snow in colder areas. Nothing that interferes with gameplay, but adds a nice mood to the game.
