Before I say anything else, yes i did contact turbine. They didn't know what to do and couldn't come up with a solution.

The problem: Typing on anything in LOTRO is not impossible but its up there. When I hit keys after logging into server and character they work just fine, but when i try to type in chat box or search or the auction house even numbers anything, it has a 5% or less chance of actually producing what I hit, it usually just leaves it blank like I didn't press anything.

I would try a different keyboard but I play on a laptop, a very good one i just busted 2k making this thing, I run on ultra high settings with no lag.

So far I have re-installed the entire game and patches, turned off firewalls, set firewalls to allow LOTRO, restarting the game and computer multiple times. even tried messing with some of the games settings.

As you can see I can type just fine with everything else, it is only LOTRO after logging in that I experience this problem.

If anyone has any suggestions to try that may fix something like this please I really would like to know. Or if anyone has had this happen to them and figured out how to fix it, I would go to your house and hug you pretty much.

Thanks in advance, I know this probably isn't a good place to post this, but I didn't know where else to ask for advice on this matter.

Server is Windfola if that even matters.

EDIT: Seems a lot of people had same problem, had to delete xfire. Turbine knows just doesn't seem to want to tell people the solution.

Xfire has been nothing but problems with this game since they started support for it, first update that it worked with the game, it caused such lag with lighting on my computer it was either turn off the purty effects, or uninstall xfire... yeah its gone, sad to see they still haven't worked out the bugs with it and this game. Did that fix your problem btw... you didn't say.

Yeah it fixed my problem, but what I still don't understand is why I had to delete it from my computer for it to get fixed, just turning off xfire and exiting it didn't work.

I know last night I posted a message on xfire forums asking them to fix the problem and explained what it was.

Turbine replied to me saying that yes they have discovered that xfire is the problem with chat delay as well.

With installed programs there are .dll files and registry entries that can affect other programs. What is probably happening is that Xfire has files that are interacting with Turbine files or reg entries and causing this issue. I don't know for sure because I don't know how both handle data server side but this would make sense to me if you can't type in game with x-fire running.

My guess would be that either a setting in x-fire that controls in game messaging and logging or the code for it is probably interacting with that part of the game client that allows typing.

Yeah I'm sure the hook they use to grab control of the keyboard so you can use its built in messenger was causing the delay. If your dead set on using it, wait a few weeks, reinstall and try again. They are usually pretty good with updates.

I might just not use it anymore, won't have reason to in a month.
