Erm just wondered what the kinship was all about? Is this the guild system if it has one?
If so is there a guild crest or tabard available representing each guild?

Yes, kinships are the "guilds" of LOTRO.
No crests or tabards or any special items like that (yet). Just the guild name under your name. You do get kinship chat (of course), and you can put items for sale in the Auction House that only your kinship can bid on if you want.
