A Few Questions For Someone Considering LOTROFollow

Hey guys having quit FFXI and WoW my two main MMOs a few months ago I thought I was done with MMOs thinking that this upcoming school season would give me no time...well I have that itch again, and I want something to play, but unfortunately I gave my WoW account to a friend so he could run himself through instances while I was "taking a break" and I just got an email recently that my account was permanently banned, didn't even bother asking my friend thought it might be a blessing in disguise :P.

So anyway to my questions
1. Gameplay? Overall is it solo or party?
2. Does each job have it's individual pros and cons and all jobs are pretty equal and needed in raids?
3. Are there big end game raids with difficult bosses?
4. My biggest question...I notice there arent but so many posts on the boards everyday, and my question is how is the population? am I going to be logging on into ghost towns with absolutely no one around. I find this to be my biggest problem which is not having anyone to socialize with. Much the reason why I quit EQ2 was not because I no longer enjoyed the game, but because by the time I quit I could run through the town and only see one to two other people....it was very lonely with just NPCs

Well I've only played for 2 days having just switched from WoW for a change of pace but from what I've read and seen with my limited perspective I'll try to answer a few questions till someone else expands on them.

1. Seems to be a healthy mix of solo and group.

2. I've only done small 2-3 person groups so far but it seems that the groups aren't set in stone too much, meaning your group with fail if you don't have x, y,z in it.

3. No clue about the end game yet but I wouldn't get too hung up on the reviews for it just yet because as new as it still is a lot could change. I like the concept of the PvMP, you can take control of a pre-made monster and fight against other players or NPC's.

4. Again I haven't ventured to deeply into the game and my only 2 days playing it have been on a sat and sun but the population seemed ok (Can't be that bad since the first 10-15 names I tried to use where already taken)

Hope this helps till someone with more info comes along.

1. Mix of both. Lots of soloable quests, and if you wanted to you could solo from 1 to 50. The best gear is rewards from fellowship quests usually, and grouping just makes the game more fun in my opinion.

2. Each class has a main role, hunter-dps, minstrel-healer, ect. Classes also have secondary roles, for example, a loremaster's main job in fellowships in crowd control. However, he can also spot heal and add some dps, even use a pet to off tank.

3. End game is not really "fleshed out" at this point. There is only 1 "raid zone" at this time.

4. The game has a pretty healthy population across all servers, and across all levels. I doubt you'll run into the "ghost town" problem.

Zakthan you made your post right as I made mine apparently I appreciate it, like you say there is only one "raid" zone atm, but by the time or if I do hit 50 there may be more. Also the fact you say theres a healthy amount of people each level helps me.

Now just one more question, any suggestions on a server? :P

The major point for me is the story line. In that vein there are a number of quests, both or the solo and group player that follow the lore of Middle-Earth. One word of warning however - some quests marked as solo ones in your log will not be doable without some help, though this often has been one person in my experience. The mix of solo and group quests seems to be a nice balance, even in Angmar.
---
From my gameplay each class can make a distinct contribution to a group and has a unique skill. all this aside from the minstrel-healer, guardian-tank. For example a burglar can rigger Fellowship maneuvers. There does not seem to be a set make-up for groups, though there always seems to be calls for healers and tanks.
----
As the op noted end-game is still being 'fleshed out' and may be addressed in the upcoming update. The rewards that show in the quest log fro these raids seems fairly nice to me.
-----
I play on Brandywine sever and there is no lack of players. As with any MMO there will be some 'ignore' chat in certain areas, the main being Bree and Bree-land from my time there, but overall players seem helpful. My suggestion would be to join a good kinship, this would make finding groups a bit easier and add to your enjoyment.
-----
Hope your gameplaying experience wiil be fun.

Depends also on the Class you choose, but for the most part expect to group 50% of the time. There are certain quests that are harder to find a group than others. Don't expect to log on and get what you want done. I usually log on, work on crafting or traits in the zone I want to get certain quests done in, and advertise that I am looking for fellowship, etc. Although at 47 I had finished all books but 8 (even got 9 done, it is soloable). Am now at 49 and only have the last book 8 quest left. Honestly I must be nuts but once I finish that book I will most likely restart and make a Human Burglar for the advantages he gets.

Have not been on any raids yet, but each class/race has their pluses/minus. I chose a Hobbit Burglar, but am going to work on a Human Burglar because there are too many traits that are so much better -- like a 3k heal (once an hour), and more % evade and parry. My advice would be to try a combination of each class/race and level them at least to 10 or higher. Take your time and make a decision based on that as to what best suits you. Believe me the classes are VERY different then any other MMO. And at the higher levels you really want to keep in mind what traits are there for the future. Being able to FD for 1 minute or add 1 hope to my fellowship for 10 minutes kinda sucks compared to a 3k heal and 1% bonus to evade and parry as a burglar.

So far just 1, I have not tried yet, but once I hit 50 will give it a shot.

Well I'll be honest, at the higher levels sometimes it seems that way, yet there are hundreds of people in the zone. At 45 it really becomes tough to find a group because there are several places to hunt -- Angmar, Misty Mountain, Evendim, etc. There are channels that are serverwide that no matter where you are it is possible to advertise "/L 45 Burglar LLF Book8 Chapter 1", and it will be seen by anyone within the levels in the "Lookingforgroup" channel. I was glad I made a Burglar in that they can sneak past many mobs to get places rather easy, and some quests only require you to get to a certain area for credit.
