Easiest to Solo in LOTRO Follow

#1 Aug 22 2007 at 1:08 AM Rating: Decent
I've made a hunter character and now I'm level 10 but I'm still not sure if this was a good choice for someone who plans to solo a lot. That's why I wanted to hear what you guys have to say on which class would be most suitable for soloing. Anyone cares to share his/hers opinion?

They all solo fairly well, some more than others. I've never played a loremaster or burglur past 10 but I hear they do really well. I solo very well with my Captain and my Minstrel and while I can't take on elites of equal level I can handle multi's within reason. It's just a matter of knowing how to use the skills available to you to good effect.

With my little hunter I tend to lay a trap if it's cool down is up and then pull with barbed arrow to get more shots in before they hit the trap then unload while they are in the trap, this usually gets the mob down enough so that when trap breaks I don't get hit too much.

I have a lvl 40 hunter and I tend to solo a lot... it's not that I don't want to group... I just tend to play at odd hours and loathe pick up groups!

At any rate, hunters make great solo toons, we get a run speed buff and a double handful of ports to make travel easier. We have minor crowd control in the form of roots and snares (a variety of traps) and we also get a "get out of jail free" card - a spell that will yank us out of combat and deposit us somewhere safe.

Stick with your hunter... we're flat out cool!

Hunters solo remarkably well. If you use all the tools we're given you can solo and expect to survive most situation.

Make sure you take advantage of traps and snares, and keep a few morale and power potions around and you'll be fine.

Burglar can solo very well. Just being able to Hide in Plain Sight saves your butt so many times when you get too many adds. I soloed most Himbar quests (Spiders quests too), swords quests (except 1 or 2) most all the Angmar quests that require collection. Getting to places as a Burglar while might not be as fast - we can sneak past mobs to get to the nastiest of areas. I have gone past some nasty elite trolls, etc and then even if they see you, you can use HiPS to escape, or mez it and run. Signature mobs are the norm in some places in Angmar, and you'll be plowing through them. It gets better after 30 and when you get HiPS. Then at 36 when you get ready and able you can refresh your skill timers which makes you even more deadlier. I guess it really is a personal preference, but then again I think you need to decide early which class you prefer. I made a Hobbit but am going to put him on the shelf for the Man Burglar (3k heal once an hour, 1% evade & parry Man traits).

Champions also tend to solo very well depending on how you're geared. If you do plan to run one and solo him, I would advise focusing on vitality/armour/might in that order to increase survivability. Mine can usually handle elites of 12k or less or up to 4 or 5 mobs at once without too much trouble. The traits are also a BIG help. Focus on the ones that add to armour, might, vitality and you will be fine.
