Faction stuff!

I've only done one heavily so far, but there seem to be similarities between them all.

From neutral, it takes 10,000 to acquaintence, another 20,000 to friend, 25,000 more to Ally, then another 30,000 to kindred.

I was hoping the elf chain would open up a quest line or something at the end, but it didn't. It did however bring in a pretty nice set of toys for the minstrel.

At Friend level these become available:

Healer's Ring
+24 Will
+12 Fate
+18 Power

Healer's Bracelet
+13 Vitality
+13 Will
+38 Power
+0.9 in combat Power Regen

Bonus for having both equipped: +44 Power

At Ally level:

Healer's Earring
+14 Will
+14 Fate
+82 Power

Healer's Locket
+14 Will
w/10 second duration 10% heal increase
refresh 1 hour

Bonus for having all 4 equipped: -5% threat from healing

There is also a Healer's Buckler shown in the list, but at kindred faction I have no idea where it comes from. My only gripe about the set is that the enhanced healing clicky seems a little too short to matter much. As a set, ti worked out to a slight loss in will but a substantial power gain to what I had equipped previously.

There's also a warrior's set available, but I don't have the details in front of me.

This faction set startes in the Homely House, through the doors and off to the right. There are two sets of faction quests, one set that is collecting rings off mobs (wights/men in the Trollshaws and Misty Mountains) and another set of three different Scholar crafting quests. The first quest combine requires 1 Relic of Lothlorien and 1 Fragment of Dunedain Script per combine to make Scholar's Writs. These have to be turned in as sets of 5. The first turn in netting 700 faction (+xp and coin) and each subsequent set raising your faction 300.

For Scholars, a second tier of faction quests opens. These will chew down your Master level components in a hurry if you let it.

The first is Study of the Unknown. It requires 1 Long-lost Second Age and 1 Undeciphered Moon Letter per combine and like the last one must be turned in as sets of 5. 900 faction points for the first one (+coin and xp) 500 for each subsequent one.

The second is Of Mysteries Most Profound. It is worth it to hold out to do this one. It requires 1 Long-lost, 1 Moon-letter and a new item to the game a Torn Scholar's Journal. These are the only use I know of for Torn Scholar's Journals and they drop from mobs and off tier 5 nodes. They do not, however, show off from the Duillond consignments. These can be turned in 1 at a time. The initial one gives 1200 faction points (+xp and coin) and 700 for each after that. If you are a scholar interested in Elf faction, this is the way to do it.

Has anyone else done up any of the faction quests far enough to know what some of the rewards are? I hear the Hobbit ones are cute, but crap. I haven't read a whole lot about the others.

I've done the faction quests for Thorin's Gate thus far and a few for Bree, although that instance is massively camped so I tend to avoid it.

For Thorin's Gate here is the breakdown if needed:

0 - 9999 Neutral
10000 - 19999 Acquaintance
20000 - 24999 Friendly

I am currently at 12100/25000 for friendly so I am not sure what comes after that. Getting acquaintance means you can enter Bluestone Garrison (I think that's the name) and use the superior workbench in there and gain an additional faction NPC and vendor. The vendor currently sells some recipes, a dwarf only trait scroll and a few weapons, all obtained at friendly.

The initial quests is to turn in 10 dourhand crests for 300 rep. The quest is repeatable and the crests drop in both Sarnur's Keep and Sarnur Great Hall. After you enter the Garrison, you can do a quest to return First Age Trinkets for 700 rep each, well worth the hassle given how rare they are.

I am somewhere in the middle of Acquaintance in Esteldin with the Rangers faction. Actually if you farm pristine, and now exceptional hides you (Tailors) can make ranger sashes (tier1) and ranger cloaks (tier2) that stacks of 5 get 200 and 500 Rep each hand in. Not that hard to get pristine, but exceptional is hard at 43.

I made a trip to the dungeon in Barrows (Haudh Iarchith) and got a few of the Treasures but the mobs are stacked a bit too tight (3 or 4 at a time in places). But they are around level 40 to 43 or so, with a few Elites also.

I'm working the rangers in Esteldin and also in Evendim. It's (dropped) tomb raider sashes in Evendim and (crafted) ranger's sashes in Esteldin. I haven't passed the 10K mark in either spot but I'm grinding it out whenever I'm on.

I'll report back when I unlock some goodies!

I've made it up to around 16000/25000 of friendly with Thorin's Gate. I am estimating by Friday being to the next level of rep so I will post more when I hit it. I tend to spend around 2 or 3 hours in Sarnurs collecting Crests and First Age relics each session. So I have I think 300 crests to go for the next level, give or take.

Update

Well, I hit ally with Thorin's Hall last night. It was a bit anti-climactic to say the least. No new patterns or weapons =(

But, the next stage in Reputation for all factions after Ally is Kindred, attained at 30,000. Currently, I have started working my Angmar stuff, as the horse vendor is out there at the hidden Ranger alcove.

I believe what you see at the vendor when you are first able to access it is all you are going to see. At level '1' in Rivendell I can see all the items and it shows what level rep I need to purchase on each so there is no need to grind to kindred to see what else may be offered.

Yeah, I saw them but was hoping initially that there was another vendor or whatnot. However, after I checked the official boards and rode around Thorin's Gate, I realized that there was no additional loves for that faction.

As an update, my champion achieved Kindred status with Thorin's Gate last night. Somewhat anti-climactic but at least it's done.

Oddly enough, when you complete the faction, it will say in the mouseover that you are at maximum reputation with said group but it will still give you 600 reputation for making it :)

I did check to see if there were any kindred level goodies anywhere in Thorin's Gate (I didn't think so but you never know) and sure enough, none to be found so it's a perk more than anything.

Updating this thread.

For Council of the North, I just got Acquaintance two nights ago and took some screenshots of the rewards available. I will be adding those rewards to the item database next week so other folks who are working on this as well will be able to see them.

Fwiw, the initial quests to get Bone Amulets is a PIA and then some. Imlad Balchorth simply has to be the hardest flippin area I have ever seen to get in and out of. I think I get defeated more on my champion in this one area than anywhere else in the game, and that includes CD and other group areas.

The Wicked Daggers after you get the acquaintance status are a hell of a lot easier, seems everything in that area that is even remotely humanoid can drop them. And given the plentitudes of dwarves, evil men and morrovals running about, I got halfway towards friendly in one night of farming.

I get the feeling that the devs aren't quite finished with this whole faction thing...at least I hope they aren't. As it is, I'm taking my time doing the other ones as I come across the items rather than seeking them out in a hurry.

I do really want the hobbit post bag though

Anyone have a list for the craft avenues to reputation?

I know:

Elves of Rivendell: Scholar
Mathom Society: Cook
Rangers of Esteldin: Tailor

Anyone know the others?

Made the mistake of just about getting friendly in Esteldin before I realized the rewards are basically for a Hunter -- however I did get GM in Tailoring this way so not fruitless. Now am almost friendly in Council of the North (I am at 16000 out of 20000). So I am of course running around Himbar trying to get more daggers. Glad I held onto the 100 or so I had. I really want that improved horse badly, which is why I've been farming hides and ore lately as well.

Besides being cool looking, how much better is the improved horse? I've heard that it can take about 5 hits instead of 3.

Finally completed the initial 10K faction with the Wardens of Annuminas. (located in Evendim - near the lake) I didn't see anything for sale that really excited me but maybe there is something there that you can use:

Dark Chestnut horse / pony

Healer's buckler - lvl 50
+15 fate
+15 will
+1.0% block
+1.0% tactical critical

Sage's blade - lvl 50
47-67 common damage (26.1 DPS)
+15 fate
+90 power
+1.1% in-combat power regen
+1.0% tactical critical

Warden's earring - lvl 46
+7 might
+14 vitality
+0.6 in-combat morale regen

Warden's necklace - lvl 40
+27 armour
+12 vitality
+2.0% incoming healing

Warden's signet - lvl 47
+14 vitality
+7 will
reflects a portion of damage back on attacker

Warden's wrap - lvl 50
+15 might
+15 vitality
+45 morale
+1.0% evade

please note - none of these items are available at 10K faction - all are still red to me - only merchant access is unlocked.

That one will probably be my next faction to work on as well. I think I'm gonna take a break from the Council one, nothing really for me anyways.

I stopped reading here... Because of the cat for your avatar.

Is that your real cat? I'm a cat lover. If thats your cat, he/she is spot on! Is it a rescue? Looks a lot like my main squeeze. General Celease "Tidbit" Monteuago III. She is a rescued taby short hair. Awsome cat! Nice avatar. They really look a lot alike, in color. Spiffy and all that.

Anyway. Back to topic. Interesting thread, as I am downloading trial atm.

Yes, that would be my late cat Fuffy.

There's a long story that I could put here but I'll just say that he was the coolest and cutest (intentionally) cat I've ever known.

I'm not sure what breed he was and there's a long story that could go with how I got him. The synopsis: guy steals cat from people that kept it locked in the bathroom 24/7 for at least a year and a half. The couple he stole it from didn't even realize the cat was missing for almost a month. The guy that nabbed the cat has a little food chain problem with his multiple pets (cat is fascinated with bird, dog protects bird, fights occur, stuff breaks) and starts shopping around for a new home for the cat. Guy asks me if I want another cat, I say yes. Guy informs me after I go to his apartment to pick up the cat that he is still unnamed, at somewhere in the area of 2 years old. A week or so later I and a few friends sat in a different corners of a room alternatly saying any name that came to mind to the cat until he responded to one. Fuffy was the first name he responded to.
