I'm stuck between the Nintendo DS and Sony PSP.

The Nintendo DS has titles like Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow as well as compatability with GBA games like Metroid: Fusion, and the re-releases of Final Fantasy 5 and 6. The DS also has Mario Kart: DS and some other good Mario games.

The PSP doesn't really have any games I am dying to play, that I can name off the top of my head. I'm not interested in buying movies in its proprietary format, and if I want wi-fi internet I already have a Palm T|X PDA for that and my other portable media needs.

Two of my friends have DS as well, I'd be able to wi-fi some games with them and mess around with that picto chat thing too.

I suppose I'm lenient toward the DS because it has a lot of first party titles I'm interested in, as well as some Game Boy Advance compatibility so I can play some of those games I missed out on.

I still want to find a copy of Metroid II: Return of Samus for my old game boy.

The DS is cheaper, anyway.

And damn me, I meant to post this in Out of Topic.

EDIT: I Should have also originally stated that while I am leaning toward a DS, I'm looking for valid arguements toward a PSP because I am keeping an open mind. There are some franchises like Metal Gear, Grand Theft Auto and Final Fantasy that have been Playstation exclusive for a long time, and I love those games.

How's there a major choice here? You're leaning very strongly towards DS and have no actual arguments in favor of PSP. It really ought to be obvious.

If your smart (see able to follow directions on the internet/download things), you you can play psp, ps1, snes, nes, sega genesis, some n64, etc on a psp.

But yeah, it kinda sounds like you've already made the decision.

I personally like both, and while i have a psp now...I'd like a ds as well. Thankfully the DS isn't that expensive.

Not anymore.

You need an older version PSP which hasn't had it's firmware updated past v1.53. A brand new PSP comes fully updated. Sony cracked down on homebrew software, and with firmware versions later than that, there has been very little success in making operational emulation systems.

There are some games that Sony has sanctioned that are available for download, but they're ******* expensive, and they all pretty much suck. (With the exception of Marble Madness. But I can just play that on DS...)

Depends on the firmware the psp has.

When it goes to buying a psp to Emulate, its best to try and get a used on at a store, and ask if you can "try it out". Then you just goto the settings and see what version it is.

Best version to score is a 1.5

I use to goto this site. Going there and reading stuff, you can find what the highest version you can get, to downgrade (i dont know it...i can just emulated a higher Version of the Firmware... all of my 6 psp games play on the 1.5 >.>).

DSs seem pretty cool... when i 1st played one, i didnt really like it due to the lil stick-thing. But im sure i could get use to it for some of the games id like to play (gogogogogo pokemon!!! lol)

I had psp firmware I think 2.82 and managed to downgrade to 1.50 using the original copy of GTA liberty city stories. I havent found the rumored playstation emulator, but I have loads of fun on trips with Shining Force 1 and 2, the original final fantasy games, chrono trigger, star ocean, ect. By the way you can stick GBA games on the psp too, I took the opportunity to be dissapointed by Final Fantasy Tactics Advance.

GDI Final Fantasy Tactics: The Lion War ftw!

Sounds to me like you want the DS. I have owned both of them at one point and I sold off the PSP. Like you said there is not alot of must have games. I really wanted it to start with for Vice City stories but I found the controls to be too crappy on the PSP for me to enjoy the game.

The remake of Dracula X and the FF7 game coming to the PSP though really makes me want to buy another one. Also there is a new PSP coming out eventually that is supposed to have better battery life and some other extras.

You sir, are a ******...any PSP with Firmware up to 3.52 can be downgraded...

The new psp 'slims' are already out, those have not been cracked yet, and probably wont be for awhile...but they have video out...wtf does the DS have?

Reason I posted though, while I am indeed leaning toward a DS, I was hoping for more good input on the PSP. Two guys I work with, and the manager at Gamestop personally recommended the PSP over the DS; problem is, nobody's really been able to say why.

One of my biggest points in a handheld is going to the one that's more portable, though. My friend has a keychain that holds a dozen or so DS games all folded up, and the DS lite is small enough that I could wear jeans and carry it. I doubt I could walk around with a PSP unless I'm wearing my cargos- though, I do frequently wear cargo pants.

Lots of games, aside from the things I own, I can think of at least 7 or so more titles that I'd love to have off of the top of my head. Also, a web browser and mp3 player attatchment. They don't come with the system, but it would be foolish to discount them.

Things I currently own for the DS: Phoenix Wright, Castlevania (Portrait of Ruin), Advance Wars Dual Strike, Elite Beat Agents (SO MUCH FUN), Lunar Knights, Phantom Hourglass reserved. I'd like to get Dawn of Sorrow and Metroid Hunters. I can't think of any other system that had so many games that i was so interested in so quickly upon buying it, even two years after release.

I've owned it for 4 weeks.

There's nothing really wrong with it, but it has no game that would sell the system to me. That is to say, there are many games on it that I could enjoy (MGS, some GTAs, couple RPGs), but no game that is enough to make me want to buy the system itself. It's really a personal choice, and that choice depends on the game library, as well as the add-on possibilities. Noone can answer that question unless you reveal exactly what your preferences are concerning game types.

Well, the DS, through the purchase of a flash card, and a flash card reader cartridge, you can have nearly everything that you can get on your PSP.

If I were to choose between the two right now, I'd probably end up either buying both of them, or neither. Both have good exclusive games, both can, with some effort, play roms and media, and both are nice and portable.

I own both the PSP and the DS. I can tell you from personal experience, and not just some random this is my opinion but I don't really own either garbage, that the PSP is a big wad of worthlessness.

Point #1: The PSP's controls are rather horrible, imagine that considering the PS2 has awful controls too

Point #2: There are about a handful of good games in an otherwise dismal sea of poo (I am looking forward to the new FF tactics game--that is it)

Point #3: You have to spend more money on a memory card every time they release a new one. I started with the 512 when it was released, got the 1 gig, then the 2 gig, and now they are either releasing or have released a 5 gig. I personally have 2x 2 gigs.

Point #4: The DS is just plain more fun and the system itself is actually reliable.

Point #5: Games. Games. Games. The PSP has none and the DS has many

Hmmm...wonder which one I should buy??
