Ok I am getting diffrent answers in game and from other threads. So maybe some one might be able to answer this for me here. Ok lets say you started out with the Armsman vocation but you decided that you really wanted to be an Armorer. I know you would loose all your skill earned in weaponsmith and woodworker but would you still keep your skills for prospector?

As Dyadem said you will keep any common skills. A good example is if you are an explorer you have prospecting, forester and tailor. You decide to become an armorer instead, this vocation has prospecting, metalsmith and tailor, you will keep any skills you leveled in both tailor and prospector since they are shared by both vocations but forester will be lost entirely.
