For those that occasionally play on the Preview server, you probably already know that one of the changes to the Book 11 update is the addition of DX10 support. I've taken a couple of screens and some videos to give you an idea of what the differences are.

The only bad thing about adding in DX10 support is that DX10 is vista only. At least they aren't totally doing away with DX9 though. Not that adding in DX10 isn't a great thing, but overall I imagine the amount of people who will notice it will be small right now.

Of course, on the flip side, I don't know of any other MMO out that makes use of DX10 right now... So LotRO is taking a step in the right direction, especially with not cutting off DX9 support.

Probably more than you would think. A lot of people I know are using Vista, as am I. Tho it gets slagged off a lot (by people who don't have it?) I've never had any problems with it, and the fact that LOTRO is now gonna support it, means I'm gonna be even happier with the eye-candy than I already am.

Nice one Turbine I say!

The problem mainly is that Vista seems VERY hit or miss to me. It either works perfectly or it works like crap and you want to pull out your eyes. I'm not saying it isn't a good step, but considering how hit or miss Vista is right now I have to wonder about them adding it a little.

XP was drubbed to there and back again when it firts came out. Now no-one wants to leave it. Vista is where PC's (and gaming) are heading in the near future.

Oh don't get me wrong, I know XP had it's problems when it came out, and DX10 is the future of games. Personally I'll probably be getting Vista when the first SP hits... or maybe when I upgrade my PC depending on what all I do to it (namely if I get a DX10 video card). Of course, then I'd feel stupid if they added DX10 to XP lol...

Edit: If everything goes as planned I'll probably be upgrading in Dec/Jan (x-mas time lol) so hopefully by then there will be an SP out, or at least a few fixes that make it less hit or miss.

I'm sure that when you do upgrade, you'll be a happy camper. Get an 8800, they rock! Smiley: grin

No thanks, don't like nVidia cards. Just personal preference really.

I much prefer ATI myself, although I am currently using an nVidia. Be nice to see DX10 support on one.

The new 2k series on ATI are supposed to have DX10 support, and are pretty good cards from what I've seen of reviews and such.

My only problem with Vista (Built 2 Vista machines so far this year) was the most recent build last week - I tried to reuse an older DVD-Writer which isn't vista-ready. Switched that out and all's hunky-dory :-)

The new PC is nothing amazing:
AMD 64X2 4000 @2.10GHz (not got round to overclocking it yet)
Abit KN9 SLI Mobo
2Gb RAM
NVidia 8600GT

Was going to buy a 2nd SLI 8600 but may not bother.

I have 2x 19" flat panels - I use 1 for LoTRO at 1440x9000 with all settings ultra-high and the other for browser and Digital TV. Running both I have 0 lag.

Running DX10 on the Roheryn server is amazing.
Graphic details are finer, tree/object shadows, even more realistic water.

Again, all settings maxed, and still as whippy a display I've ever had even with TV running on monitor #2.

Nobody I know who understands basic s/ware & h/ware config has any problems with Vista.

Jump in. The water's fine Smiley: waycool
