My LotRO Rants!Follow

I like ranting. I'm famous for it.

*takes a deep breath*

My first rant has to do with me. I wish that I could get over the healer mode I'm (apparently) used to having. Don't get me wrong, I'm LIKING the fact that my minstrel needs a group to do the simplest of things. I just wish that I could *remember* that this is the case rather then dying 2-3 times before I notice a problem! Damn you easy MMO's that have spoiled me into thinking it's my right as every class to accomplish the same thing, in the same way, at the same level, with every class! It doesn't help I play 2-3 MMO's at a time. So I have trouble remembering how each works right away.

Thank you LotRO for not making it so. This is good!!! Now for a complete and total re-adjustment of my head! Apparently my learning curve is 2-3 deaths, a shot of tequila (for the "I don't WANT to throw my monitor through my back door" effect), and at least 30 minutes of playing an alt! My hunter whom I abandoned for my minstrel is moving up faster then my poor minstrel! I feel like a betrayer!
My second rant will be taken a little more personally then the first. So be it.

DAMN YOU PEOPLE OF AZEROTH! STOP HITTING MY MOBS WHILE I'M BEATING DOWN UPON IT MERRILY ON MY OWN! *wipes the perspiration off her forehead* While this may not be directly attributable to Azeroth, you will have a hard time convincing me otherwise. It is was the utter height of rudeness in an MMO to attack a mob that was being handled just fine. It was a difficult judgement. He's almost dead, do I assist? Do I heal? OH NO! There went another 10% of his life in one hit. HEAL HEAL! And then he was dead. And then you sent him a message! "My friend, I am sorry for your death, I was not quick enough!" And he responded "No problem, can you help me clear the path back in?" And you did, and you had a friend for life.

Since the creation of the "easy button" of Azeroth people feel they are helping you by "taking" your mob. So here goes the true rant. Knock it off azzhat's! (OH! First time I've EVER used that in any FORM that wasn't derogatory towards the person actually using it!) MY MOB! MINE! MINE MINE MINE MINE MINE! Okay. I feel better!!

My 3rd rant will be towards my guild. Who are a *wonderful* bunch of folks.

If our guild drama consists of someone bashing someone elses MMO, that someone saying "I don't like that, please stop" and then 45 minutes of profuse apologizing and a 5 paragraph forum apology, you people need to go back to guild drama school!!! Where are the days of:

ME: (accidentally in guild chat) "Suzy sux! She can't pull a single mob without killing off our group, and she smells funny"
Guildchat: .....
ME: "MT!"
Guild: General how I am a no good backstabbing *insert expletive* and this always ends with being kicked out of the guild, 2 weeks of trying to get back in (cause ya know, they're my FRIENDS!) and then repeating it accidently.

Oh and of course, this always occurs during a raid, after Suzy has killed us off 12 times, and gone afk for 45 minutes at least twice after being 90 minutes late to the roll call! But she's the GM's wife, so whatcha gonna do?!

No my friends....you are all a little crazy, and I pledge the rest of my MMO days to our fine community, because you guys are truly gonna blow up and go nutso one day, and I wouldn't miss it for the world.

I hope that you have all enjoyed my ranting. If not, at least I feel better!

See you in game!

T

[EDIT: I forgot 2 important rants!!!]

LOtRO auction house: What MMO in this day in age doesn't let me click on an item and have it auto enter into the search box for me?! How hard can this possibly be? (If a developer of something comes up and starts giving me code, I will slap you!)

How is it that every micro-play wanna be 200 people playing MMO has figured out how to make an item pop up its own stats PLUS the stats of what I'm currently wearing but Turbine hasn't? Seriously. IT is *retarded* for an MMO in this day in age not to offer it. It's like playing UO on patch day (year one) every time I need to switch armor. THE MOST PAINFUL THING IN THE WORLD! *cries* Someone! Help me!!

oki, done now!

*breaths a sigh of relief and heads off to play her minstr....hunter*

[Damn forum software won't let me use unordered lists for the first 3 rants, so you're stuck trying to separate them yourselves! I spent more time trying to format this sucker then I did writing it!]

Please dont no-rate me. LOTR does do this...its under options somewhere to turn on cross examination tool tips, etc. So that you can view the item you're viewing...and the item that you are wearing, both at the same time to cross compare the stats.

Otherwise your post made me laugh...and laugh in the good way.

I have the ability to ban, no-rate, mute and karma slap someone into negativity. I simply use them only when warranted :)

Tovin, get with me in our lotro channel some time and I will show you how to use those tools and whatnot.

i think the reason why every new mmorpg doesn't have all the things you liked from other ones is that, they dont want to seem like they're just copying.

eg, why not use huge birds to fly us around? they showed up in the LOTR movie, and it fits in with the theme. oh yea, because it would be similar to WoW, and LOTR would not be able to live it down how they're just trying to duplicate WoW (and other predecessors) because, well, after all, aren't all good games having some of the same things at least, but they try not to be so blatant about it. eg, a horse is a horse, there aren't too many ways you can add that to a humanoid fantasy/medieval rpg and not look like you took some idea, but that kind of mount idea isn't something that is hugely in just one game.

this would be the reason why we don't have some of the things that are already available in other fun and interesting mmorpgs.

I have two major rants.

One, to all the node thieves who can't seem to grasp the concept that if I am fighting on the node (directly on it, immediately next to it, not that hard to miss), it's pretty safe to assume that I am there for that node, whatever it is. Are you that damned selfish that you either have no vocal cords/hands or you just can't wait 5 seconds for me to finish the aggro that you have to run right up behind me and swipe it then run off without even a word? Then, when I give you a "what did you swipe that off me for?" and you give me the typical lame-*** "you didn't tap it" excuse. Please. Grow a set and learn to interact with others and not act like an ***.

Two, to the groups who seem to think that it's perfectly acceptable to steamroll right over a single player without even saying anything to them...eff you. Just because you are questing or in a big group and I am alone does not give you the right to gank everything in sight and ***** the area for someone else who just MIGHT be, gasp, questing in the same damned area. If you see a player there, how about a little damned courtesy and ask them what they are after? I'm sure that player would be MORE than happy to share an area, I know I am when a group takes that 3 seconds to act like human beings and not jerk-offs.

Ok, I feel better :)

Here is my et-a-cat 'list'...

1. Gold selling scumbags can go to H. E. double hockey sticks.

2. If someone is fighting within 20m of a node, wait until they are done and ASK if they want the node.

3. High levels characters doing deeds, or whatever, in low-level areas: Low level characters have the right-of-way. Just because you can one-shot every mob in the area doesn't give you the right to do it.

4. Don't jump past an active group (or even a solo) to do a boss, it is just like node stealing. Ask first.

5. Don't help anyone kill a mob who 1.) doesn't ask for help, or 2.) isn't about to die. The 'about to die' is a judgement though. Stay out of the way if you really want to help.

If you think you might be acting like a dink, you probably are --Kitca

Any other complaints are minor hehe...

Professor Dottiel "sigged" -
Quote:
Vader: Perhaps you feel you are being treated unfairly?
Lando: No...
Vader: Good. It would be unfortunate if I had to leave a garrison here...

I think that
Lando - "But, we had a deal..."
Vader - "I am altering the deal... pray I don't alter it further."
is a far better quote... just sayin'...

Darth says 'Good' about 5 different times in various scenes in that movie.

The 'good' characters say 'I've got a BAD feeling' an equal number of times.

i was thinking about this last nite. no one seems to be mad at the buyers, who keep the sellers going and encourage their advertising.

people around us are the buyers.

i don't really have any rants about the game. i feel like each incident is generally isolated, and the population, as a whole, is pretty good.

#13 Nov 21 2007 at 10:04 AM Rating: Excellent
Well only Turbine would know who the buyers are. One can hope they are dealt with severely.

Everyone knows who the scumbag spammers are (albeit briefly).

tovin, i had to grin ear to ear as i read your formal complaint. =)

however, as i usurped leadership of my kin--last person active was 146 days ago-- and thus, don't have any kin drama, bad or otherwise, i have to envy yours from afar. =p

i'd like to add my complaint...well, not a complaint, but really, an odd observation.

i wrapped up a quest with an awesom champ--kudos to Gorgoferth if you're reading this--and ported us to ost guruth afterwards. as i'm the girl stuck with the nextel pager duty this month, i'm the on-call ****** (it's dept slang thing, not an insult).

so, after porting, i decide to start working on a dns issue that just came in and head over near the npc archers of ost guruth to /afk while i putty into the server.

i went /afk. i know i did b/c i took a screen shot later just to make certain i wasn't nuts. i had not one, not two, but 5 fellowship invites while i was afk.

folks, afk ain't a title! i mean, "AFK Tueval of Lorien" isn't what you want to see during the GA instances. i'm honoured for the invites--even if all they're for is a taxi ride--but if i'm afk, i'm really afk!

gah! but, i still love the folks in LotRo--i played EQ1 from LDoN through to whatever folled darkhallow (something about the sea) and really enjoy the people--mainly b/c there ARE people playing the game.

but i just wish they had a tad more experience. =)

I have one small problem now, I have 4 days off because i'm lucky but now I have got to the later levels all the quests are group quests and so i have to wait for a 2 hour time zone to actually do my quests. Now I can't play this game fully on my days off. And when i was playing with my minstrel soloing was easier then my hunter because i could heal every 30 seconds.
#16 Nov 22 2007 at 6:06 PM Rating: Good
There are plenty of quests you can solo... granted I like working in groups, but I've done more than my fair share of solo quests on my now 41 captain... in fact, I cancel lots of fellow quests because they end up getting to light blue/green in my quest log.

Well I haven't seen much that i can solo yet, most of the quests i get is group quests. It was more solo orientated in the lower levels but now i am feeling i have to get a fellowship every single time.

Mal, I kind of felt the same way, but at 21 (and a minstrel to boot...guess it depends on what you consider low levels heh) I'm going strong on the solo quests. I found quite a few at the Foresaken Inn in the Lone Lands and in the next city over. I save my fellowship quests call in some guildies and we *race* through the quests.

I have found the exorbitant amount of fellowship quests both Vanguard like *yips* and very very welcoming. Of course, the fact that I have an awesome guild who's always trying to do stuff for me has saved my frustration.

Good luck!
#20 Nov 26 2007 at 5:56 AM Rating: Decent
Sheesh, Tov. :P You know the XP loss you experience when someone acts in character is a pittance compared to the XP rewards for quests, don'tcha? Anyway, you'll miss those "helpful" folks when someone just stares you down as you succumb to a level 48 Elite orc in Malenhad, and then after you're dead they jump in and claim the critter for themselves!

... Oh, wait, you're both Hunter and Minstrel, so you'll have no problem soloing anything. :D

This next one is aimed at bluegayle. I don't know whether you're being sarcastic or not, but Turbine has already mentioned their stance on flying mounts, e.g. the Great Eagles, and their stance is that the Eagles don't come flappin' whenever you need to get to Bree to sell a stack of Ancient Iron Ore. And sure, they were in the movie, which would be interesting if the game was based on the movie. I know they were in the book, but unless you chuck the One Ring into the Cracks of Doom, don't expect 'em to come running. :D

And there's no one who doesn't understand that if you're fighting a monster next to a node you want that node. They're glad you're busy, that way they can steal the node, sell the ore for ridiculous prices on the auction house, and then sell the gold to some greedy idiot who thinks the only way to get the good gear is to shell out 30G for a pair of gloves rather than, I don't know, go to the dungeon and get it hisself! >_<; I hate gold-buyers as much as I hate anyone, and I got a lot of hate to go 'round.

Argh!

Man, Tov, why you gotta get my blood all a-boilin' this early in the morning? XD

'kay, I'm done.

Damn it, now I'm irked too!

This has been a particularly horrendous weekend for really really rude node jumpers. You know who you are. Quit being an ***.

Okay, gold sellers are an irritant. A rash on my butt inducing irritant. I report them and pop them on my ignore list. Problem solved? No, because they keep showing up. Why? Because of you flipping gold buyers!

Gold buyers, I blame you directly and personally for the entire gold seller problem in MMOs.

Ever heard of delayed gratification? Yes, sometimes that means you'll have to work and save for something you want now, but will get later. Try it sometime. MMO players everywhere will appreciate it.

Every time I want to play lately they have to bring the servers down for some hardware problem. Agh, someone please feed the gerbils.

I was only in for a minute and servers go down until 5pm.

It's my Birthday and there should be no downtime today.

while my hunter doesn't seem as good as other random hunters i see, i am not having any trouble with soloing. by the time the monster gets to melee range, he is about 25% HP left...that rest of that goes fast with the melee skills or the instant bow shots.

one thing i learned about my hunter after many levels was to start a fight with full focus. prior to that, i probably could do about 1 skill during a fight before i have to stand there and take a few hits while i build up focus again.

but with the full focus at the start, i'm doing about 4 special moves during one fight. in fact, many times the monster is dead already before i can do the 3rd one because of the cool-downs.

as for my minstrel, with some increases in Fate and other stats (from deeds or yellow gear that focuses better on certain stats), i actually think she kills faster than the hunter! that shout ability that i usually do as the opener really can crit very high. sometimes i even get to use it 2x in one fight since i open with it.

someone said before that purple gear, even at these levels, helps. i think it does, but probably mainly if it has the other stats, like Fate, Agi, Might. Morale/Vit and Power/Will doesn't seem too much of an issue so far. Generally in 1v1, I can kill stuff before it is a danger to me. i say this because while i try to get some VIT in there, i see many others who have 100 to 200 less HP than I do (roughly +33 or +66 VIT or Morale combo). They certainly don't seem to be any more dead than I am when fighting the same things.

I good news is that most of these issues are ons that every MMO suffers from. And trust me, LOTRO has a way more mature population base. I will admit that high lvls farming nodes by moving easily through heavily populated areas that I would aggro is annoying, especially seeing as though the scholar nodes are very rare and almost always require clearing.
