I love my Wii, and I play with my Wii all the time. But I do have a few minor gripes about the console. Yes I am trying to liven up the multigame forum a tincy bit.

1. Gamecube controllers cannot be used on the home screen. My friends and I often use the Wii as a glorified gamecube for Smash Bros., and it becomes a little annoying having to mess around with the Wii mote each and everytime I want to start up a gamecube game.

2. No in built ether net cable connector. I'm given two USB ports and wireless capabilities, but I need to buy an adapter if I have a wired router? Seems like an oversight.

3. Wiimotes with no off button; 360 has the same problem. If I am only using a controller temporarily, need to swap controllers, or accidentally squash a controller (turning it on) I end up just taking out the batteries to shut it down. It is a lot faster than navigating to the menu to do so. Just give me a simple on/off button.

I would really like to see a gamecube controller attachment for the remote, I've been spoiled by all of the wireless controllers now and having to be tethered to the Wii is less than optimal.

I wish you could rearrange your channels (if you can and know how let me know).

When playing the Wii on my 42" Plasma, it seems that the pointer movement when navigating the Wii menu or playing games is choppy and sluggish. I have no idea why this would be, but I can't find anyone else who is having this problem. It's a little disappointing, because I get 10x better response playing on one of my smaller TVs but I don't get the great looking screen that the 42" offers.

I play on a 65" screen and I've noticed that there is some lag too. In zelda, there was a calibration menu, but I have yet to find one on the Wii OS. IIRC, there is an option somewhere in the Wii menus titled Channels, but I bet that it's just for deleting channels, not reordering them.

I think All HDTVs have some sort of lag associated with them. I know I've always had to adjust guitar hero for HDTV tvs and Smash lags as well.

Short article mainly focused on 360 lag, but I'm too tired to care more. Hopefully it helps some.

I don't know of any ways to turn off a Wiimote. However, for the 360, if you hold in the middle button (home button thingy) for about 5 seconds, a menu will pop up on the right side. It gives the options to "Shut down console" "Turn off controller" or "Cancel".

I believe that if you hold down B and then A (some combination of holding/clicking the two) while your pointer is on a channel, it will pick it up and you can move it to another slot.

Wii has a similar feature, but I find both to be annoying. Why do I have to wait 5 seconds and navigate a menu to turn off a controller? Whatever happened to the good old on/off switch?

From IGN:
If the precision aim functionality of the pointer is being used in games, the device will run for approximately 30 hours. If only the accelerometer functionality is being utilized, the Wii-mote will operate for 60 hours on two AA batteries.

If you're having trouble with battery life, there are some options with other batteries, perhaps rechargeable? With the Wavebird controller you're promised 100 hours. So I can see how it would be irritating with the discrepancy. But either way, if 30 minutes of on time is bothering you so much, definitely go rechargeable!

Go wireless. Everyone else has. :p Sorry. I know it sucks.

I'm the opposite, I like this. If I wanted to be using a gamecube controller, I'd be playing a gamecube. It only sucks for us when we're playing Mario Kart, but it's easy to get over, and to be honest, I love using the remote. I still love the point and click-ness of it!

We play on a 62' HD rear projection and we have no issues with lag whatsoever, menus, Twilight Princess...everything has run smoothly!

Wavebird? It's got a tad of lag in them but the controller itself is still solid.

Go to the settings of the wii (lower left-hand corner on the channel menu), then go to screen, then sensor bar. You can adjust your sensitivity from there. If you touch up the sensitivity a bit it might reduce the lag; I know i need to turn it up most of the time in order to play trauma center, because it sucks *** to have a sluggish suturing needle.

Also, get rechargable batteries, or even ask for them for the holidays. I have a pack of 6 AAs and a charger and it's quite easy to swap 'em out and charge for a bit, even with two wii remotes. I'm not saying that it's not an oversight by nintendo (it is, and they really should have just made the remote a chargeable thing like with a DS) but its an easy enough problem to fix.

I can verify that this is some class A ******** from IGN though... I used at least 7 changes of batteries through twilight princess, and I had a 70 hour cleartime. Generally I've gotten ten hours of play out of two AAs, which really does require some recharging capability in order to be economical. Getting a charger is a good investment.

I've never had a set of AA's last less than 25 hours in any of my Wii remotes, Alkaline or rechargable... are you sure your don't have a bad remote?

Yup, always worksp perfectly fine otherwise. The battery life was just horrible.

Maybe it was a problem with the batteries I was using, before I got my rechargable ones. It was pretty predictable though, that whenever I hit a 10hour mark in twilight princess playtime, I would need a battery change.

Metroid fared a little better, generally lasting for two days worth of playing (probably 16 hours).

Wii = Cheap hardware, with just about every cost saving move they could make to raise profit margins + Yesterdays Tech + Gimmick = BAZILLION dollars for Nintendo. But eventually (IE 2-3 years) it will be totally eclipsed by the technology/capabilities of the 360 and the PS3 who designed their consoles to be alot more future proof.

The PS3 even put in an off button and a built in Wireless card, not to mention its a Blu-Ray player and a DVD up-scaler without buying add-ons for it.

Wii is a party favor and a toy for Grandparents and people not into hard core gaming. So like the average american it appeals to, its cheap!

I definitely agree with no.2, it's annoying to have to use an adaptor or stick to create a connection. Especially since my computer regularly crashes on the program needed so I lose the connection.

I haven't installed it on my new computer, so not certain how Vista treats it.

And a simple on/off button would have been very nice.

Mind you, apart from my PC, I'm using the PS3 more and more these days. Wii is fun, but not as addictive as the other two.

Buy a 360, sleep with your 360, love your 360.

But I do hate when I accidentally turn on controlers. -.-

When you decide to abandon the quest to become a *****, look up Nintendo again. They'll take you back I'm sure, because they are caring like that.

More to the point...

I'd ask you to name another software developer that consistently puts out as much quality as Nintendo. The only other developer that I can think of myself is NIS, and NIS is not very broad; they merely excel at srpgs and rpgs. Nintendo has not only developed the most consistently excellent software across the decades (spanning every genre which I can imagine for that matter), but has done it with the least powerful machine of each respective generation. While I do not pretend like the 360 has a poor library (for in fact it's library is decent enough: Bioshock, CoD4, Mass Effect, Assassin's Creed, and other's make it a system at least worthy of buying) Microsoft itself is a pretty ****** developer.

One buys a Nintendo anything for the purpose of playing the first party titles which it releases. That's by no means the most fantastic arrangement (and while I suppose Nintendo could go the way of SEGA, promising us the best quality games on a stronger system, that didn't actually work out so well for SEGA) but the games are still there. It's a depressing thought to see people fail to recognize that; behind the small processing power and the odd name and controller lie some of the most beautiful and engaging games made by anyone.

You really don't know anything do you.

PS3 is the worst selling system out of the 3 even now with a lower price tag. The system is junk. It might do well next year, but right now, still junk. I own one and I regret ever buying it.

I love my PS3, I am actually starting to regret buying the Wii. Never use it anymore. The system is great.

I had friends over the other weekend, and hooked it up to my projector. It seemed to have a good full second delay between my swing and the action. Smiley: mad Totally ruined that Zelda Shooter game.

(But playing Final Fantasy XI with a character two feet tall is freaking awesome. Smiley: um)

Smiley: blush And now I notice the suggestions on how to fix that. I'll have to try that next time they come over.

Well it depends on what you like to play (I hope you bought the wii with a list of games in mind, instead of just getting it because everyone else was). If you really don't use it anymore then you should sell it for a fair price on ebay, because there are still plenty of people out there who actually want one, and will get a lot of use out of it.

I'll probably get a ps3 in '09 or '10, depending on what else comes out besides KH3. If they can start making some damned rpgs for it then I'd actually think it worth the price for a moment. Right now the only things I will miss playing are KH3, MGS4, and FF13. There are just no good console rpgs out at the moment and it kinda pisses me off. I'd enjoy a Suikoden VI for example.

I've not yet tried Smash Brothers with it, but the Classic Controller is nice, and hooks into the Wiimote.

I was lured in by the hype in part though, I won't deny that. At first the sports was fun, I really looked forward to playing a Zelda game (never played one before) and the general idea behind the controller is one I like. But sports is done, I really don't like Zelda and even Smooth moves is starting to bore me.

I'll wait till the Star Wars game this year, looks very promising. I'll keep the console though, lots of games coming out and since I have one, might aswell use it from time to time. Or until an offer comes I can't refuse, but given the fact that the Wii isn't sold out here, I doubt that'll happen.

The wii's greatest asset is Zelda and Mario. Not just in the wii titles, but also the virtual console titles. It'd be pretty rad to have OoT on my Wii again...

I wonder if they'll release Majora's Mask on the VC? Would it even be worth it? lol

Majora's Mask was the worst Zelda, aside from the Abomination of Gamelon, of course.

You'd be better off getting master quest on the gcn. At least you get the hard version as well, and it's not too expensive anymore.

I disagree. I wouldn't say it was fantastic, and the main game was a little short, but the transformation masks were a lot of fun to use, the time dynamic was an interesting detour from typical zelda play, and the side quests were possibly the best of any zelda.

In my opinion it ranks above a few other main Zelda games.

I hated the fact that no matter what I did, as soon as I played that song of time, the poor little monkey would be right back in the cage, waiting to be eaten. That goes for the other levels too.

I just lost any sense of progression and got despondent with it.
