I have recently been playing Lord of the Rings Online. I love it so far. I am enjoying the aspect that I can't go out and raise hell on everything in my path. If I want to solo quests, I have to be smart, play hard, and accept a death here and there. Reminds me of the old days of EQ.

I have a few questions. I am a level 14 Elf Lore Master, I've been playing for over 2 weeks. Yes I know, pathetic, but with a full time job, Counter Strike Source Team to run, family, and friends, it's hard to find time.

I am wondering what my primary role as a lore-master will be, I chose it because I always envy'd wizards direct damage critical attack abilites, and the ability to blast creatures into oblivion. I have direct damage and damage over time spells, which I am enjoying. I have found myself to be able to cast burning embers on mobs, which slows them down, and sic my pet on them whilst kiting the mob around to chase me. I only do this on higher level mobs which I cannot take the melee damage from. Is this an effective way to solo at higher levels?

Will my pet be able to tank well at higher levels if I decide I'd just like to farm and solo? What stats should I be concentrating on?

I cannot wait to get from work and play this game! :)

Thank you in advance for all replys.

I believe Turbine makes Lore Master out to be the Master of Crowd Control

Loremasters have quite a few uses especially at higher levels.

-Mez/Roots for crowd control
-Stuns that prevent a mob from attacking while your group (or pet) beat on it.
-Debuff Spells that work on a single target, or can be laid as traps over an area
-Heals
-Mana transfer (Minstrels will love you)
-Some nifty buffs, like anti-stun, a 'shield' that may stun those who attack the player you cast it on (cannot use on self), cure disease

As for pets, Your bear pet wont be an uber tank but can take a few hits. The bird is great for slowing a mobs attack speed, and the shadow mitigation. The lynx pet that you get at 30 is Superb at doing damage (especially coming out of stealth, it gets a nice strike)

thanks for these responses :)

I was also curious as to what stats I should be focusing on, and what does what for you?

If there is a site that gives an explanation of what statistics improve what, please let me know. Thanks!

Basic rule of thumb is as follows;

MIGHT = - incoming dmg / + melee dmg
AGI = + evade & parry / + ranged dmg / + crit %
VIT = + max morale (1 pt vit = 3 pts morale)
WILL = + power (1 pt will = 3 pts power)
FATE = + incombat regen

with this in mind you'll probably want to keep an eye on will (bigger power pool is always better for casters right?) but since I play a hunter, a LM will need to tell you what else is helpful to you specifically!

Thank you...

To be honest, as a level 14 lore master. I've yet to run out of power. I think I have run out of power one time. My issue is running out of morale. My power regenerates plenty fast.

You wont run out of power at level 14 unless you are in a group and you are in a real long fight. Solo you are dead before you run out of power or the mob is dead (or you get away).

Key is to have your pet do all the heavy lifting. You CC the adds, and jump in to save your pet (and finish the mob) when needed. Use Honey&Oats and buff your bear. This helps with their aggro. They are actually decent tanks. If your pet dies you may need to skeedaddle.

Once you get your power drain and power transfer skills you can keep yourself well powered (and everyone else in your group too).

Hmmm maybe you could tell that to the other Lore masters because they never seem to recover my power, i have to get a captain to do it.

I have grouped with some loremasters (on my other toons) who fail to recognize this aspect. My response is usually a gentle 'power please' in fellowship chat. It usually breaks them out of their stun/nuke obsession.

I play my loremaster like a minstrel for power. Always give power away first so you have room when you drain hehe...otherwise you waste the mob's power drawing when you are full.
