Considering SWGFollow

#1 Jan 05 2008 at 12:59 PM Rating: Decent
Hi there folks, il start by saying that I have successfully kicked the Warcrack addiction!
So with that said im searching for a new MMO to play. So basically id like to ask a few questions if its okay with you guys.

1)Will there still be people running around in the starter areas working on new character or am I looking at a long solo road until higher levels?

2)Are there dungeons type areas with bosses that drop loot? (sorry I dont know if these places are called something different). Or is loot gathered in different way, like spawn camping for example?

3)Are quests numerous and easy to find? Is there something to tell me that a NPC has a quest to offer?

4)is there a good server that you can recommend if I'm on the west coast?

5)Do people just keep the stock ui or is it like WoW where modding the interface is basically a requirement? (I hated that I had to download all the mods just to be able to raid)

6)If you have anything else that is important to tell me about SWG please do, i have no clue what this game is about other than the fact that it is set in the Star Wars universe.

Thank you in advance, I know these posts can be annoying to users that frequent these boards, but I would really appreciate the help.

1, the only real starter place is the station you will be taken to when you first start. after lvl 10 you are kicked off and sent down to eisly. you will probley see other people up there doing the same quest as you are but once you get down to eisly you are with everyone on your server. you will most likely start the legacy quest to get you the ropes on gameplay. most of your planets are set for diffrent lvls. your core planets are for low to med lvl players the other planets are for high lvl player. i could tell you the details but really you would have more fun actualy doing it and finding out where you can go. just cause it's for a high lvl doesn't mean you can go there and do something.

2. yes there are dungons type areas with bosses but you can get loot from anything. you will find spawns all over that you can loot.

3. yes they are very easy to find. one way is to find a mission terminal and it will give you listing of diffrent missions you can do. i would recomend you doing 10 a day to lvl up cause you get a exp bonus for 10 missions a day. you also get credits for doing them to. you will find npc's everywhere that you can talk to and get missions from. you will be able to figure out who to talk to and how it works when you are on the station.

4. i would recomend vaclyn but thats my server and i'm kind of biased. you can create 2 toons on a server and you can create on other servers as well forget how many you can have.

5. i don't understand sorry. i would guess not cause i havent downloaded anythingn cept what soe puts in patches.

6. the game can be what ever you like it to be, just have fun and find what works for you.

More opinions:

1) You will likely see other people, but leveling up in SWG is very much a solo game. From the "Legacy Questline" (main quest chain that gets you to level 40s), to your 10 daily missions from the terminals for bonus exp, to any of the random quests I've run into, none of them are very group-friendly. You can easily get level 90 without ever being offered a group or having a group with anyone besides your droid. A guild with similar interests as yours can certainly change this, though.

2) I don't know much about the new dungeons, though I have heard a little buzz about them. I'm pretty sure they are geared towards high/max level characters, though. Someone else should tell you more cause I don't know enough to really talk on it.

3) There are quests, but not as plentiful or well-designed as you may be used to. Legacy can be thought of as THE quest chain that will get you to the point where you can quest on the expansions' adventure planets, as outside of Legacy there aren't very many develeped quests on the starter/low-level planets.

4) Think you can find out more on the server screen, with average populations and distances listed for each server.

5) There are a few mods you can use, but they are unsupported by SOE to the point where you aren't allowed to talk about them on official forums. (They aren't really "Addons" per se, because they actually modify the game's files to change the interface.) People use them more because they enjoy the different styles/layouts than out of necessity, though. But the customization you can do with the stock interface is good enough for everything I've needed, whereas in WoW it is pretty much an impossibility to play effectively with the default UI.

6) The best thing about SWG is that it is incredibly open-ended and deep. While the devs have provides some linear content, like dungeons and questlines, I don't think they are the real gameplay standouts... The really cool thing is that you don't HAVE to do that stuff in order to enjoy the game to it's fullest. Your goals can be determined by yourself, and not set in stone or laid out in front of you. (Do you want to be an ace pilot for hire? Or are you more interested in forming a guild and building a city? Maybe you just want to be the most popular performer in the local cantina?)

You really have to experience it and decide if the playstyle is a fit for you. It is a complete and total 180 degree turn from the dungeon crawling style of WoW that you sound like you are used to. I think that's the best thing the game has going for it, though, the freedom of playstlyes.
