Any comprehensive SWG guides?Follow

#1 Jan 06 2008 at 8:45 AM Rating: Decent
I'm curious to know if there are any comprehensive game guides for SWG, the complete online adventures. There are many questions I have as a noob regarding many different things, like ship nomenclatures, capabilities, and characteristics. I am acquiring ship components to enhance my y-wing, and I need to know how to interpret the characteristics of reactors, engines, etc.... I thought maybe there would be some guides that are as detailed as the Dungeons and Dragons rule book set. Can anyone give me a clue? My online search produces nothing like it.

The best place to get info on game mechanics right now are the official SWG forums. You can find out most everything you need to know about ships and piloting with the sticky FAQs in the piloting forums. (Click to the Professions forums, and there are a dozen subforums for each individual profession.)

Ship component stats aren't too difficult once you understand the basics of them.

1) You can modify your ship's components at a Starship Terminal in a starport.
2) Mass is a characteristic of the chassis, is listed as [Current Mass]/[Total Mass] while examining your ship, and determines how much and what quality equipment you can load into your ship. The number on the left is the sum of all current loaded equipment and the number on the right is the maximum potential mass you are able to load into the ship.
3) The ship's reactor provides the "power" to your ship. It's main stat tells you how much total reactor energy your ship's components can consume. It works similar to mass, in that each piece of equipment's "Reactor Energy Drain" stat is added up, and the total must be lower than the energy provided by your reactor or you won't be able to fly.

Space is cool because customizing your ship is much more involved than just putting the biggest and baddest items onto your ship and blasting things into oblivion. Because of the limitations of mass and reactor energy, you have to make difficult decisions when choosing your ship's components.
