Microsoft has apologized for the glitches that hit its Xbox Live online game system during the Christmas break. The software firm said it was “disappointed” with its performance and promised a free downloadable game to all users as recompense.

Feelings on this? Personally I'm relieved that Microsoft is taking action and reimbursing its subscribers. Personally I didn't think Microsoft was prepared enough to deal with the surge of players that were signing on during the holidays and the mass of players who sign on everyday to play Halo, Call of Duty, Mass Effect, etc.

What are your thoughts? Feel like we should be getting more as paid subscribers or do you think an XBLA game is enough, supposedly any game is up for grabs, more info will be released in a few weeks. For non xbox players, some arcade games came reach an upwards of 20$ and the yearly superscription is 50$.

shouldn't have happened in the first place for a pay service thats free everywhere else.

the bandaid it after it breaks mentality really sucks, and microsoft seems to like it sadly.

which is cheaper than 1 xbox live arcade game.

2 weeks of live at the yearly rate is only like, $2.

Yea theres a whole marketplace that has arcade games, movies, tv shows, among other things. Now they released Xbox originals to suck more money out of us.

However the details on how to obtain the free game will be released in a few weeks...

If they give out any free arcade game you want, Ill choose Castlevania SoTN, at the split second.

It's cool they're giving something up for free due to the horrid performance of their on-line service. I won't complain, at least as long as the game choices they offer is worth a damn. The sad part is it is still running poorly. I was on last night and kept getting booted from games just as they started with various connectivity issues.

That said, some of the people are getting completely ridiculous with their complaining. I can see being annoyed, but I've heard players threatening lawsuits, cancelling subscriptions and returning gaming systems (like any of these twits would be able to survive the withdrawls). It's worse than the old days of listening to EQ players gripe about Verant and/or Sony.

I just hope they give us a halfway decent Xbox Live Arcade game. Not something like Space Giraffe.
