Diablo II lolFollow

#1 Jan 20 2008 at 2:40 PM Rating: Good
I've bought probably three or four diablo II battlechests in my day(seriously, I quit the game and either lose or give away my cd's and things opr move and something gets lost)

anyways I have:

diablo 2 install cd's but no cd key

diablo 2 LOD CD key but can't find the disc

so I'm wondering, if I use a ghetto cd key for the regyular D2 - then torrent LOD and use my original CD key from the game - if I could still play on battle.net

alternatively, I could probably ninja loot an old cd key from a buddy of mine, but idk.

any thoughts? I really want to play in single player - but I'd like to be able to patch up to 1.10 or whatever before I do, because I really liked what it did to the game

You can go to the blizzard website to get the patch so you don't have to get on Bnet if you don't want to. If you do want to play on bnet though, you should be able to get on as long as your keys aren't in use by other people, as long as they are valid too (I had a problem finding a valid one for my WC3, but diablo predates that so it might be easier).

I can't figure out how to install LOD from the iso

here's what happened:

I installed regular diablo 2 from the game discs.

then started the LOD installer, everything is going quite well.

Next it says "insert play disc" (of regular d2 - I insert it)
it eventually asks for the LOD cd again. However, I have no physical LOD cd. mounting and re-mounting the iso don't do anything. Hitting the ok button doesn't do anything either. It's as if the installer cannot recognize anything ot present within the physical drive(as apposed to the virtual one)

Can I get some halp?

did you take out the original D2 disk before you unmounted/remounted?

Also, what did 1.10 do to the game?

Btw, I went to my local wal-mart tonight and looked for the D2 battlechest, and they didn't have any Smiley: frown. I don't really need it, but you talking about it has made me want to play it again (necro ftw).

The 1.10 patch gave synergy bonuses to skills...like

if a necromancer put points into the "teeth" spell, it would give a % damage bonus to both bone spear and I think wraith. essentially adding points into some skills would serve to power up other attacks.

This was especially useful for people who wanted to try out unconventional builds which wouldn't have been able to do much damage previously(like a pure mage druid)
Unfortunately it also gave rise to a tricky paladin build that involved running around doing 3k damage per second using that holy fire aura(requires massive amounts of + skill items and max synergies - don't get me wrong; very few players would have the resources to make this) It just kind of made me mad. I had an ethereal BoTD sword and could do over 10k-14k damage whirlwind(even more on other attacks) on my barbarian, but those paladins would always kill me.

my weapon was:

that IS a legit item. It was, I think, exclusively available for ladder characters and required a 6 socketed ethereal collosus blade + some relatively rare runes - but the damage and power is unparalleled(15/7 leech! and pretty much instant access to poison nova)[just looked it up, was addeed as a regular runeword for patch 1.10)

My armor:

^ THIS WAS exclusive to characters who played the ladder. It was an odd armor in that it not only gave MASSIVE defense, but 300% ENHANCED DAMAGE. and loads of attributes and resistance.

Nice. I remember the duping scene in bnet being so ingrained that everyone had something and there were always scams going. At one point I think I even downloaded a duping program but I don't think I ever got it to work (I was like 10...) Smiley: tongue.

how old are you? I was under the impression you were at least a year older than I (19)

then again, I suppose Diablo II has been out since what? 2000?

I just turned 21, but I could have sworn it's been out at least 10 years...

Then again, I don't have the best memory for timelines and such Smiley: tongue.

went out and bought some new copies...oddly it won't let me connect to USeast so I chose to try USwest(I'm in West Virginia, which is on the east coast in case anyone doesn't know that lol)

It's lagging a bit more than I'd like(barely at all, but sometimes it'll catch a 1 second delay) and I had to update some drivers and tinker around with Vista a bit to get it to run properly.

One of my favorite things in diablo 2 was the crafting system which is largely ignored by the player base.(crafted items show up as bright orange) - I've made some pretty badass items from crafting, like high % dual leech rings and a zerker axe which ended up more powerful than a lot of high end unique items. Sadly gathering crafting materials can be tedious and sometimes the things you make end up as utter crap.

If anyone reads this and wants to play, PM me.

I will tell you that if you were playing yesterday, Battle.net seemed to be having some issues, at least on the WC3 end (which runs on the same server as Diablo, or at least it used to)... so the problems you were having may have not been on your end Smiley: tongue.

And unfortunately I don't think I'll be getting the game, seeing as I have several others taking up my time and the semester is about to get into full swing for me Smiley: frown.

I was hesitant to get it myself, I'm down to the last couple semesters before I graduate and have a lot of papers and things to write. My reason to stop playing FFXI was largely due to this.

I basically remade my MF necro (Fishymancer?). I'm also playing around with barbarian and amazon.

Vejek - 26 necro
Vargyle - 16 barb
Colere - 15 amazon

I'm still trying to figure out what I want to do with the amazon and barb. I never really played around with those. I'm thinking WW barb for PvM for sure. Idk about the zon. I wanna be able to take her through cows and for rushing characters on my 2nd account.

Do you have any advice on builds? I won't be making any PvP characters until I get more gear (which could be a while). As a side note, I got my gf back into playing it also. I'd be duoing with her necro mostly.

For Barbs, I like to make sure everyone knows NOT to put any points in energy.

Keep str high enough to wear your stuff, dex high enough to have 80% or better hitrate, and vit high enough that you don't die so much.

As a barb, it's very important to have at least one point in the berserk skill when fighting in the chaos sanctuary of act 4(iron maiden curse causes you to kill yourself - berserk is purely magic damage so you can survive)

put one point in all the non weapon masteries (stamina+, movement speed+, iron skin, and natural resist) I actually recommend 3-5 in natural resist and maybe a few extra in iron skin.

whirlwind uses a lot of mana, so you're going to need health and mana leech.(I forget the exact numbers but leech is cut in half in nightmare and quartered in hell? might even be quartered in nm and eigthed in hell - so you'll need a lot)

I might hop on an make a character tonight.
You running Vanilla D2 Himmel?
If so what patch number? (Haven't played in quite a while)
#18 Feb 11 2008 at 10:21 PM Rating: Decent
patch 1.11b you can get it off of blizzard's website if the ingame patcher takes too long.
