This game is amazing. My only complaint is how tedious the "in town" portions of the game are. You can't attack random people in town, all you can really do is ride your motorcycle - take on various jobs and assassination missions, buy clothes, or buy new weapons and special attacks(wrestling moves)

It's also pretty annoying that you have to earn a ton of money to take on the "real missions" - which then deplete your money.

Through all of the tedium, this game is still amazing & just weird.

Got an 87 on Metacritic, and sounds pretty fun and interesting. I may have to check this one out, thanks for the info.

The "hero" *rolls eyes* of this game is hilarious.

The first time I heard him say "STRAWBERRY ON THE SHORTCAKE!" I did a double take wondering why the hell a brutal killer with a beam katana would say something like that.

I'll tell you this much, he has various "special modes" hye can go into whenever certain conditions are met - and he always says something crazy when it happen. Each mode has it's own specific phrase. Here are some:

"STRAWBERRY ON THE SHORTCAKE!"
"RASPBERRY CHOCOLATE SUNDAE!"
"BLUEBERRY CHEESE BROWNIE!"

one of his modes he just says "THIS IS THE END"

another mode, which I have yet to ever see actually happen causes him to shout
"ANARCHY IN THE GALAXY"

I've seen this game pretty heavily advertised. I'm wondering if its worth the hype. We have a Wii, but it mostly collects dust next to the PS3 :)

NOBODY pre-ordered it from my local EB. On release day they only received two copies. I bought one of those.

It's a pretty fun game, but definitely not for children.

I saw a 10 minute segment of a boss battle. The dialogue is simply hilarious, though more in that way of laughing "at," than "with," but I believe that is intended by the writers. Apparently some of the staff worked on Speed Grapher as well and I could definitely sense that style. The art style was different, but certainly not unique, and never added not subtracted from the game.

However if the game play is anything like the boss battle I saw then the game is utter tedium (though to be fair I don't see how most beat em ups go beyond tedium). It was a fight against a southwest themed gunman. It consisted of the main character running around in circles until the boss had tired of shooting and then whacking him until he was ready to fire again. Every so often the hero would have to stand still and do a gimmicky wiimote shake to recharge his nonsensical weapon. The boss really presented zero threat to the hero character. He didn't move at all, perhaps overconfident in the rigidity of his clothing, and for being a top ranked assassin he isn't a very good shot. Circle running was enough to evade all (by which I mean two types) of his attacks.

Perhaps that was simply the easiest boss in the game?

To be fair he was only the second boss & he presented a larger threat to the hero than you'd think. He was a weaker boss though. The first boss IMO was a lot more difficult in that he deflected attacks more often and could make clones of himself ala naruto.

Most of the boss fights are pretty fun, and involve lots of wrestling moves. Some can be stupidly difficult. At the beginning of the game you can only choose sweet(easy) or mild(normal) mode. Odds are you were watching the game played in sweet mode.

There are certain bosses, specifically the one called "bad girl" which can be really difficult if you slip up.(one hit from her eats a lot of life, and she has a really weird instant kill move - though IF you ever fall into once, you'll learn quickly how to avoid it. (she sits down and acts all pouty, I should have figured it was a trap...)

Anyways, Allegory - please don't judge the game based on what was probably the least cool boss battle in the game...well.. Speed Buster's boss battle is equally silly. The player never has to take a swing at her, he just need to get within range of her more or less.

I am one of the few people who doesn't like the game. I just can't get into it. There is too much running around trying to earn money and not enough killing. It's also a little too slowly paced for my tastes I guess.

agreed. I wish you didn't have to drive to the place to take on a mission(the money earning kind) then drive to the location of the mission...then drive BACK and take another mission four or five times...taking an hour or MORE. Only to *finally* be able to do a real mission which may very well be over in 10 minutes
(the first henry mission)

Concept and story alone makes thing game worth buying; the gameplay adds enough to it to classify the game as pretty damn good. While it has flaws in terms of gameplay (timesinks, repetative side missions), none are fatal, and the actual rank missions do not contain any of these flaws. I'd give it a 7.5-8: really good, perhaps not as good as it could have been, but I love it anyway.

I almost tried it due to the number of Ads I saw about the game on the ninja game I play in my sig. They had a No More Heroes skin on the front page for awhile. But now it moved to Curious Village, so I am safe. *whew*
