Where did you buy your house and why?

I'm thinking of buying a home to use the treasure chest to transfer items between toons, gain another spot to be able to teleport to, and have the ability to get the discounts associated with buying and selling.

I am thinking about buying from the housing vendor close to hobbitown in the shire to be close to the superior cooking oven and superior farming fields.

I hear the upkeep is around 50 silver a week on the cheaper houses is this true and how much more is upkeep in the richer neighborhoods?

I also understand you can buy an aditional 30 slots to store things in the more expensive homes and gain access up to 60 additional storage spaces is this true.

Any information that people know about housing would be nice before I make my all important decision as a 1st time homebuyer as to what neighborhood and town to buy in. (LOL)

I bought my house in Falathorn mainly to have an easy way to get to Duillond to get my scholar consignments. (See crafting thread hehe) Character is an elf so she can quick-travel to Rivendell and the Superior Study. Very handy.

I suppose any of the housing areas get you close to use quick travel between Bree/MD/Celondim/Thorins, but the elf one is the simplest for Duillond.

You do get a discount on repairs at the Homestead vendor. Discount from Reputation vendors is slightly better though. Not sure if you and your kin house in the same area == more discount.

I have a small house. Upkeep is 50sp per week. I only have ONE chest available and I think it was 500sp to unlock (cant remember for sure). Larger houses have 2 and kin houses have 3 iirc.

I am happy with my purchase although until alts can quick travel to the house, I still mail things to transfer.

Also I rarely if ever see any other players in my neighborhood. I think most people use houses as storage units so there is no real activity like there is in towns.

Since all 4 housing areas are near a starting zone, they are all fairly easy to get to (for your low level alts). All you have to do is take a rental horse ride to the nearest starting zone and run it in from there.

Of the four, I'd say dwarf (located inside Thorin's Hall), and hobbit (located right in the shire, yeah?), are the nearest to their respective stables.

The human settlement is outside of Bree and the Elf housing is up a side road located between Celondim & Duillond so both of those are a decent run from the nearest stables.

As Dot noted, when they allow alts to port directly to your main's home it will make things a lot easier. For now, I still mail most everything and just use the house boxes for long term storage.
