Thinking of giving it a try..Follow

Hi all.

I am debating whether to download the trial (again) and give SWG a good try. I trialled it about 6 months ago but didn't really put a lot of effort into playing and came away disillusioned as to whether the game was any good.

I have, of course, heard a lot of bad things about the game (that is is broken etc.) but basically what I want to know is, as a huge SW fan, whether SWG is something I should put time into playing?

When I played it last time I found it very difficult to get 'in' to the game, mainly because it all seemed so very different to other MMOs that I've played, and I really didn't have a a clue what to do.

I suppose what I'm asking is; is it worth it? And, if so, can you give me any tips on what class to play and what to do? And also, is there any means of playing the game without having to do loads of questing/grinding and just focus on the RP side of things?

Thanks guys.

Find a guild....most are always recruiting. They will help with a lot of questions you may have. They will also help you with gear and parts, or at least mine does and others that I have the priveledge for being part of. That in my opinion will help you more than any other advice I can give.

Grinding take patients....we will help with some issues that will come up

Questing take patients....See previous statement

Space doesn't take much practice to have fun....see previous 2 statements

PVP take a little skill......that your guild can help with if they are PVP inclined.

and Yes...I think it's worth the time...more now than when I started.

and what class to be.....well what do you want to do? Combat or Trader, or possibly Entertainer. Jedi is the easy button...Commando, Bounty Hunter, and Medic you may have to be creative in PVP but are very playable. Smuggler and Spy require a little bit more time and more creativity.

Trader....well you have Structure trader...which also can be a shipwright...personal fav. You also can be munitions, domestics, armorer, taylor there are more but I forget them atm.

Then you have Entertainer....don't have to much experience with this class so I reserve comment....but I have paid them alot of creds over the duration of the time I have played for buffs.

hope this will help.....proley not....I'm confusing and confused at times.

Hi thanks for the advice, its all very useful.

Just to ask a bit more, when it comes to professions like entertainer and trader do you do any sort of combat stuff like questing etc.? I imagine that it must be quite difficult to level when entertainers and traders aren't really combat classes, or do you gain xp in different ways from those professions? I like the idea of being a trader or entertainer, and then doing some piloting as well, but I am just worried about how I would fair with questing etc.

Thanks again.

Traders and entertainers do not level from combat experience.
Trades lvl from crafting, Ents lvl from dancing.
Quests that contain combat can be tricky with either of these classes, but I have seen both survive if fully armored and well equiped. It helps to be part of a group, esp one with a medic, as neither of these professions have a heal ability.

I quest do it all the time with my Shipwright....good armor with attachments, A Weapon with a good DPS, Stims and Buffs(You can mimic healing) , Granades, and of course Thugdroid my Driodeka. I can handle anything except high level elites...then I need help with a group Jedi, Commando, Medic ect...

So yes it is possible to quest and do well, but SenaraofLowca is correct...you will need help with the end game sequence on the major quests....would be no fun if it was easy and done alone.
