After reading all of this I have come to the conclusion (and realization) that no one meant to offend or flame you in any way Stryder, but you must understand the point the others are trying to make that is that other players would consider a name from the books unoriginal and and could possibly affect your ingame relations whether it does or not you must be patient and understand other people's point of view.

The hilarity of it is, this is probably the extent of the drama that this board will see.

How boring... I've got a significant number of hours to kill in a day... I want forums to read, drama or not. Just -some- excitement would be nice, lol.

Hmm..... it's interesting reading all this hype about choosing a name for your character, though one must take into consideration the game policy about doing so. Choosing a name that is original or not should not represent the players persona or lvl of intellect, after all this is just a game is it not? we are here to have fun are we not? yes i am new to this game also, but i am not new to mmo's, and believe me i have seen names in my time that...well let's leave it at that. I have a dwarf guardian named Battlestone, i don't know if that name can be called original or not but that's my choice.

Frankly, I think Battlestone is a fine name! It shows that you took the time to consider what your character was about and picked a name that was appropriate.

(I believe that) What posters here were wound up about was that choosing a name that is drafted out of the books/films shows a general lack of creative thought.

And that lack of imagination (as shown by a weak choice in character name) can be construed as a lack of imagination when other aspects of game play are considered.

Speaking personally, I want to group with people who play well... who not only know what their characters are capable of but who think of interesting and even innovative ways to solve the problems and stumbling blocks the game places in front of us.

This becomes most important in the upper levels but can be important when confronting a new instance at any level. (How difficult was "Retaking Weathertop" your first time through?)

Unfortunately, when faced with a PUG, (where I haven't played with anyone before) I am far less likely to assume that someone with an elven hunter named Legolas or a dwarf gaurdian named Gimli is going to come through with the level of creative input I am looking for. And so, I am far less likely to group with them.

Ironic somehow that this thread (titled "soloing") ended up being about grouping and an aspect of the group dynamic... :)

When you say it sounds so much more polite than when I say it in my words, but you nailed it on the head.

I think Battlestone is a proud dwarf name, it fits the race and class very well and it is not a rip off from a book, well done sir.

What's funny is that the thread is about soloing, but that hardly seems to be what the game is about. This isn't <game everyone is probably sick of hearing about and which LOTR is usually compared with>.

To me, it would be like buying a Wii, and exclusively using the classic controller.

There's plenty of other forums with drama you can lurk around, maybe stick some +1s in.

Or you can just head over to the official forums and get involved with the "zomg y cant mah munstr kilz all teh plzr!" chat that goes on. Then you can bash the developers, beta-testers, accountants, publicity, and everyone else who does anything with Turbine.

It's all really good fun.
