. . .is this game worth playing?

I am in major need of a new game (mmo) to play.

I can't afford to pay for FFXI again, or WoW.

GW worthy of all the hype I read about?

I'm not too up with GW anymore (haven't bought any of the expansions) But during the original game, it was possible for you to reach 3/4 of the way to max level (20 is max) without going onto the main part of the game.

And with the expansions I know of a character type called invincimonk.
Pretty much you make it so you have 55 hp, then get the monk spells which reduce all damage to 10% of your life total, and reduce all damage by 5, which means you take no damage.

It's good cause there's no monthly fee, but the gameplay aint that great.

You should possibly look at some of the free online ones likes Flyff and such.

It's a different style of MMO, and the main game play is somewhat of a middle ground between pay per month and free to play games.

One major difference you will notice, especially compared to FFXI, is the astonishingly high regen rates and small max hp/mp. Spells may cost up to around 25 mana, usually more in the 5-15 range, with characters having a base mana of maybe 35-40.

Because of this balance group play is very intense. I played a healing class and looking away form the screen for more than five seconds during a fight did mean death for a player. I'm somewhat fond of this system, do feels it has its merits, and makes the game a little more skill based than most MMOs.

Unfortunately hate management is awkward and unintuitive. Monsters seem to acquire targets based more on proximity than any amount of action or casting.

I felt the PvE was weak and difficult, but the PvP was nice.

I remember playing when it first came out. I freaking loved my mesmer, as a mesmer you go around putting debuffs on the guys and perform various crowd control elements for a group. It was fun, but I got bored after my guild thingy broke apart.

alright, thanks.

Trying to find something to play (that works on dial-up ><).

I'll keep looking around around for something to play.

I wouldn't suggest. I bought the first 3 games, beat all of them on numerous characters then realized I was doing the same thing over and over. Besides a different way to farm, you do everything again and again.

I think one thing that could have given GW more variety and made it more interesting would have been able to just stick to 1 profession, instead of having to pick a second as well.

Kind of like, you sacrifice getting bonuses from the second class for some more powerful stuff from your first class.

I'm going to guess this was GW's attempt at a sub job/class like FFXI does.
To be able to "build" unique combos.

But i think I'm just going to get WoW, and a few pre-paid cards.
Guess ill get to see what this "WoW hype" for myself >.>
