Thinking About Playing... Should I?Follow

#1 Feb 29 2008 at 1:17 PM Rating: Default
I bought this game years ago, but never actually played. I have heard great things, but vague things... and so don't know what to expect. What's this game like as far as solo vs group/party play, how "Noob Friendly" etc...

You are preaching to the choir when asking if you should play but as I have stated many times its the only Star Wars MMO ... for now.

Groups are far in between. Depending on which server you choose and what you want to do.

Solo play is some-what...hard and challenging, but can be fun.

"Noob-friendliness" is actually okay. Not great but again, just depends on the server.

New players, I cannot stress this more: DO NOT start a toon on one of the very light/light servers. You will only find 5-10 players IN THE WHOLE GALAXY. These backwater servers are enjoyed by few. The few who claim that they are "good" servers are playing the game with heavily rose coloerd glasses on. They're only good to a few elders who enjoy the 4 vs 6 ppl once a week battle in Restuss, or the tiny base club they operate.

For a new player this backwater experience is total ***. You want a solo experience you will not find much more on servers such as Valcyn.

The servers attitudes are all the same, its just some ppl think the bigger servers are "rude". Well thats not exactly the case.. Its juts like a small town hick going to a big city and finds that the city is "rude" compared to the isolation of country life.

Its not rude its just the collective attitude of a heavier population- your not a big fish in a small pond anymore therefore not everyone goes out of there way to notice or care about you like they might on some tiny server. Your in the big league now trust me its not worth it to spend all kinds of time to be leveled and powerful on some backwood very light server even if someone swears how great it is- ITS NOT.

You'll regret leveling there big time when your end game consist of 2-3 other ppl.

Its a good point, new players are likely to be put off the game by joining the light servers, which are little more than 'ghost' servers anyway. the Main servers in use, that im currently aware of anyway, is, in rough order of population;
1. Bloodfin
2. Bria
3. Chimaera
4. Ahazi

those are the only 4 servers that i know for certain are relatively active.
the only way to discover if its worth playing, is strangely enough, by playing, if you have the game already, all you are risking is a months sub.

I'm on Chilastra and it seems to me that there are plenty of people areound. I've never played on another server though, so I don't have anything to compare it to. I believe Chilastra is considered a "Medium" population.

Maybe a medium server is the best of both worlds...?

well i'm currently regrinding a smuggler on Bria.. the new player experience is so drawn out i'm only level 28 gah. i'm sure there's ppl to group with or meet but i haven't really tried. No ones seemed rude just occupied.

it would be so nice to be 90 and not have to spend 2+ hours looking for factional pvp that lasts longer than 10 minutes. its become like vietnam on my server, or so they say- days of boredom broken up with minutes of action.

I don't want to pay the $50 transfer and then only to see SOE turn around and give the transfer for free- the ppl who payed are just fuct. They've done stuff like that before.

Yea medium is probly good but very light is ***. You go anywhere on bria and type /who, and it says "list truncated, 33 players" on my main server you type /who and your lucky if 2 ppl get listed in restuss, its pathetic. In Mos E sometimes 9 get listed but usually like 4.

I know /who is not an accurate account but it is a representation of population. On the populated servers it can't even list them all, and thats just the pplayers who are searchable..

I am not sure I agree about how bad the light servers are I have found them to be very new player friendly possibly due to new players being so few and far between where as the the more heavily populated servers generally couldn't give a flying rats **** whether the new player stayed or not.
