is this game right for me?Follow

WoW refugee here.

I really loved a lot about WoW, but it often made me really mad. What continually drove me nuts about WoW was that other players could get in the way of my completing quests. If I was waiting for some mob to spawn, some person could waltz right in and steal the kill, forcing me to wait around even longer.

I know it's a stupid thing to quit a game over. Everybody I know would give me a hard time about it, but it's just the way I am.

Anyway, I was wondering if this kind of thing happens in LOTRO?

In short: Yes

However, the situations where this could happen are minimal. Most 'quest' mobs will respawn quickly and do not drop uber gear so they wont be 'camped'. If someone did do that for a quest mob, there is no strong reason for them to kill it again (assuming they had the quest). Wait for the quick respawn (a few minutes) and complete your mission. It is not like EQ where you wait for days to get some rare mob to spawn that has an even smaller chance to drop a needed quest item (Yeah I got Raster for my monk, finally...)

Where it might happen more often is for mobs that drop top-level craft items or worse, they steal craft-resource nodes while you are fighting mobs to get to the node.

More often then not, you'll need help killing those mobs, and find people looking to recruit you into their party to help!

However, unlike WoW, if you start hacking on something someone is killing, it takes away xp....just my pet peeve for WoW players going to other games. Thought I'd mention it.

Another thing that gets annoying in this game is the player that mines the node, grabs the urn, chops the tree, opens the chest while your fighting the mob that was guarding it.

Last night I had a level 50 minstral jumping in and opening chests in the area I was fighting. Any toon that needs to steal from another player and grab rewards they are not entitled to sadly seems to be part of most games today.

Thats a great thing Turbine doing away with insane respawns. I played EQ for a few years and I pulled out so much hair waiting for mobs to respawn, just to have someone else come and take it.

Even the 'big' mobs spawn relatively quick, I've personally never waited more then 20 minutes to get a kill, and that was a mob that was known for dropping shards, so he was camped quite often.

I think though, that you'll find people here not as greedy as some other mmo's. A simple message to the other player, letting them know that you are working on a quest, usually convinces them stand aside, or even help you.
