Voice ChatFollow

Does anyone know if there is going to be any integrated voice chat capability for the SWG game? This has to be one of the most fundamental components to quality group gaming. This happens to be a very successful part of the WoW game, and since they can do it, I'm sure SOE can pull it off. Any feedback from any Dev's on this subject?

oh god please no, thats the last thing a game needs, then everyone expects you to have a mic, and you have to listen to a bunhc of whiney pricks, no thanks.

if you want voice chat, its not hard to set up a channel in something else

thats a good point, in WOW there is voice chat, but people use teamspeak or ventrilo instead, not sure why exactly, but the point is, is that there are already voice options outside of the various mmo's. My own personal preference is against using voice, because, believe it or not, im a fairly shy person irl, and i can do or say, things, in textual conversations etc, that i wouldnt dare do otherwise, i dont think im the only one who feels that way either, i suppose its a bit like the car driver, mild mannered pedestrian becomes a demon behind the wheel kind of thing ;D

Well, at least the option is there. I didn't really think about using voice chat with total strangers though. I'm talking about when I'm online with people that I know, and we're trying to coordinate tasks and tactics, it's easier to talk than to type, especially in the middle of combat. Teamspeak and ventrillo are options, but they cost money unlike the integrated voicechat that WoW uses. I'm not especially into WoW, and that's why I was wondering if any of the Dev's could clue us in on offering the option in the future.

ive never used them, but im pretty sure theres options for voice chat out there that dont cost anything.

between skype, ventrilo, and teamspeak, im sure theres free options for basic users at the very least.

My guild uses Ventrillo and it works perfectly. Just set up a server and have your buddies join in. It is free and you can limit the number of people on the server to just your friends/group mates.

I agree that an in-game party chat thing might be fairly useful. However, there are a couple of people that I play with regularly and we always use skype to communicate.

I've not really done much with WoW (2hr trial session before getting bored) but I did play Tabula Rasa for a short while. Their version of in-game voice-comm could only be done within parties.

Bu then again, as has been said above, if there is the option, you are expected to use it. So it cuts both ways.
