Loremasters PvMPFollow

#1 Apr 16 2008 at 4:52 PM Rating: Decent
Just started LOTRO about 3 weeks ago and I was wondering how Loremasters hold up in PvMP? Do they get groups? Does mez work well in the heat of PvMP? With the mass of Hunters and Champions I see on my server I'm kinda wondering if these 2 classes are the most effective in PvMP (besides the necessary healer I assume). I really like my LM in PvE but I play MMO's for PvP. I've played several other MMO's so I'm not new to the genre. Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Minstrils, Loremasters, and Burglars are the three best (Arguably) classes in the moors. Hunters, from what I've seen, are decent at staying in the back and getting kills. I'm not sure about champions, I haven't played one/dont notice them.

As a loremaster myself, I thoroughly enjoy it, we get groups easily and we're very effective in pvmp. I'm not really going in detail but our job in the moors changes depending on the situation. (nothing insightful about that) One moment you'll be draining power from trolls, later you're spamming AoE or using Air lore on archers/Fire lore on the melee. (Side note: the trait "deep lore" shines in the moors). Rooting (Herb-Lore/Cracked Earth) is also a very - very important for locking down or stopping runners.

Thanks for the input. I was starting to doubt the effectiveness of the class. You may have just renewed my faith. :D

Speaking from the experience of one who did MP almost exclusively until I decided to level my captain... Lore-Masters are hideously overpowered in the Ettenmoors.

But that's what forum=48 (forums.lotro.com) is for ranting about. Not here. *snicker*

Could you expand on that a bit please? Specifically what makes LM's so good? Do they do well 1 vs 1? I can see how a good LM would give a fellowship a big advantage but can a LM take care of himself if he has too? Really appreciate the input guys. It's the little things (like a nice community that you can pose questions to without getting flamed) that makes me think I'm gonna stick with this game. Thanks again.

Yes, a lore-master is great for 1v1, but I would not say we are overpowered. (Anymore.) The numerous buffs, (resist traits, CC pots, new skills, and the coming defiler - to name a few) given to the creeps (Monster players) have evened the playing field.

After saying that, I'm not going to lie, we can seem overpowered in 1v1. The only class thats a real pain in 1v1 is the Warleader, but that can be dealt with. A skilled (Equiped with traits, ranked, has pots) duo of any class can take us down.

I agree, and disagree. LM can cripple large numbers of creeps with all of their debuffs and CC. The added traits (corruptions, rk2 corruptions, etc.) don't really compensate for the fact that it often takes three+ creeps to take down a LM.

That's what I disagree with. I agree with the WL comment. I haven't met a single freep who could kill my Warleader one-on-one.

Well, I respect your opinion, since you are a very active monster in the moors ;)

Checking out book 13 Lam?

I may. Honestly, I'm not even feeling the urge to come back like I have with EQ. I missed posting permissions on the forums for the first two weeks or so after I left, but haven't been bothered since.

Also, to the OP (I didn't notice this before)...

LOTRO -really- isn't the game you should be playing for straight PvP.

Yeah I kinda figured that getting into LOTRO, but I wanted to give it a try and it turns out I really like the PvMP here. May not be the main focus of the game but I enjoy it none the less. A solid PvP experience here I'd say.
