I bought a DS a couple months ago and finished playing through a few games, Final Fantasy III, Pokemon Pearl, Legend of Zelda, Brain Age

What are your suggestions and favorites? I'm more into RPGs on the handhelds, I never could get fully comfortable with FPS.

Are Final Fantasy XII or Crystal Chronicles on the DS any good?

Kirby's Canvas Curse. Trust me, I'm absolutely ******* serious about that.

FFXII is ok, but a bit too chaotic for my RTS tastes, keeping your troops organized while battling is an exercise in futility. Crystal Chronicles is also a decent game, but again, my OCD wants to be in control of every character at all times, so having my party act based on their AI makes me want to cry.

All of the Phoenix Wright games.

I just wish that Phoenix Wright 3 and Apollo Justice would come out in the UK!

Castlevania is always fun. So is Luminous Arc. I didn't like FFXII on the DS that much though--the figures are too small to maneuver successfully. Oh and I recently bought that Ninja Game. That is fun. Ninja Gaiden something.

These games are out in Aus already...and if they are out here, they are most definitely out in the UK, just look harder! Smiley: grin

I think that Apollo Justice came out recently in the UK, but Trials and Tribulations still hasn't arrived.

How does it play?
I've heard good reviews but not much on it's play style.
The pictures I saw looked more like some sort of RPG/Strategy game.

Also, they are releasing a new version of N to the DS. N+ extreme is the name
I think and I know since N was a great indie game and N+ was awesome on XBLA this will be worthwhile.
#11REDACTED, Posted: May 12 2008 at 2:19 PM, Rating: Sub-Default, (Expand Post) Sounds like you into Final Fantasy some and I know "Chocobo Tales" sounds like a kids game but.. it will keep you laughing. If you are into Final Fantasy even a little bit you like it. This game is perfect for DS with card game fights to brain teasers that you can do in short time periods, plus the soundtrack is not bad. As far as DS type games is got a little of everything and really shows off what that hand held can do.

My current collection, and recommendations from them (minus the stuff you've played already):

Consider a 5 as average, 6 as good, and a 4 as at least buyable. Anything 7 or above is exceptional and a 9 induces orgasms; a 10 would kill you from being too good.

Advance Wars Dual Strike: Turn based strategy, good characters, very well executed. This game made me get a DS. 8.5/10
Advance Wars Days of Ruin: More of the same 7.5/10
Castlevania Dawn of Sorrow: Classic castlevania: direct sequel to Aria of Sorrow 8/10
Castlevania Portrait of Ruin: Original story, decent combat and such; it's a good game 7/10
Elite Beat Agents: A fantastic music game, and with good difficulty for hardcore players 7/10
FFXII: I liked this one more than the original FFXII actually; great characters and good control system. You aren't inundated with political intrigue; instead the focus is on Vann and Penelo doing their sky pirate business 8/10
Front Mission: Remake of the original front mission! A very technical SRPG 4.5/10
Luminous Arc: Typical japanese SRPG, good for fans of the genre; it plays exactly like FF tactics, but the story is pretty cliche' 5.5/10
Lunar Knights: Action RPG, made by Hideo ******* Kojima, and he lives up to his reputation. Good boss fights, good levels, nice elemental attribute system, and a decent story make this one of the better choices on the DS 7.5/10
Metroid Prime: A good fps and one of the most graphically impressive DS games, but you don't like them
Ninja Gaiden Dragon Sword: A FANTASTIC rendering of the Ninja Gaiden feel; what's more is that it's not as hard as the first Ninja Gaiden, but it is as hard on hard mode, meaning that casual players don't have to kill themselves, and there is challenge enough for hardcore players; is a bit short, bringing down the score slightly 8/10

Phoenix 1
Phoenix 2
Phoenix 3

These are basically interactive novels. The humor is fantastic and the cases themselves are extremely emotional and satisfying. However, there are many small technical ******* (like not being able to speed up dialogue, EVER. If you die have fun reading through the entire agonizingly slow case again) and these games can be very frustrating if you see the right logical connection, but simply do not know how to present the evidence. These are totally hit or miss; I can't score them.

Pokemon: The best handheld rpg ever 9/10
Puzzle Quest: It's a puzzle game in a fantasy world. occasionally frustrating but mostly enjoyable 6.5/10

Crystal Chronicles is a dungeon crawling hack and slash type. I'd go with Lunar Knights instead, or Castlevania. CC is okay, but there is better stuff out right now.

Final Fantasy IV comes out in a month or so, and they've basically Playstationafied it. It will be nice.

Disgaea gets remade on the DS pretty soon. If you haven't played Hour or Afternoon of Darkness, get it. Hour of Darkness is the best SRPG that I have ever played 10/10.

Word Ends With You is good, especially if you like rpgs.

Tactics Advance 2 comes out soon also. It's going to be spectacular I think.

New Castlevania Soon

Go to any Gamestop and ask them if they have the game. They probably won't. Tell them that you would like for them to do an inter-store search on the game, and they will give you a list of the stores that do have them, in order of proximity. Then, if there is a close one, ask the guy to call the store and confirm it.

You'll need to get the manager on duty to do this for you, by the way. Regular employees don't have access to that part of the computer.

If you're feeling particularly smart, you could try Professor Layton and the Curious Village. The game is just straight up riddles and brain teasers, but has a very very very good storyline, and beautiful graphics and cut scenes.

If you're looking into RPGs, search for a game called Contact. Its a very different RPG, you play as a kid who gets wound up trying to find shards of a magical rock so this professor whose ship crashed next to you can fly away and escape an untimely death of bounty hunters (kinda like Doc in the first Back to the Future). Its interesting cause you play as the kid, but also as yourself, breaking down the 3rd wall.

Another VERY VERY VERY GOOD Rpg is Magical Starsign. It plays like an old fashioned RPG, but has the charm and wit of current RPGs. The plot is you are a student at the best magic school in the universe, and your teacher needs to go stop a madman from destroying everything. She doesn't return for a while, so 6 students go out in separate spaceships to find her. Very good story and challenging game play is all right here.

Finally beat Ninja Gaiden DS, and I gotta say it stayed good up until the end, and the difficulty was on a level I'd expect from the Ninja Gaiden Series. Worth getting.

It's an RPG game that is very fun and intuitive. Totally worth it. Good soundtrack too.
