Quest system:Follow

a bit too easy?

Granted, I have to admit I am only lvl 20 so far and am still in Tortage city (just wrapping up all the quests I still have, only Strom still remains in the Destiny quest set) so I can't really speak for the entire game.

But the quests are very easy to do in this game. So far no obscure spawns to locate, no placeholders to obliterate untill the one spawn comes, no searching for the needed mobs even as the map conveniently shows where you need to go. Heh, even groundspawns for some collection quest are shown on the map, first by arrow and then a sort of mark comes on the map to show the area where they can be found. Npc's and mob locations are conveniently shown by a large "X".

Now, coming from EQI and EQII, I'm definitely not used to this. It just feels too easy. I can live with it though, perhaps it is time to get passed the "having to camp a spot for a few hours to get one update" and just enjoy the ride instead of being annoyed all the time when someone storms by and steals a kill I've waited hours for.

It's smooth, but in a way it does sort of decreases the need for a site like this one, not by much though as allakhazam is more than just quest information and it is handy to see it in advance at times. Heck, the whole feats system would be very handy to be able to study outside the game, it's a bit complicated imo. But then I get confused easily lately, so it could just be me.

The system helps point to the location, but it doesn't make the actual quest any easier.

On the "talk to this person" quest, all it does is save you hours of pointless wondering trying to find a person in a city of 100s of NPCs. There is nothing productive or challenging about not being able to locate the NPC because the city is large or there are hundreds of NPCs around. Showing you where the NPC is does not make it less challenging, merely less annoying. (There is nothing challenging about a "Talk to X NPC" quest.

On the "kill x creatures, get x items" quests, it mearly points you to a large area, you still have to kill them, get the drops, etc. I spent about 30 minutes killing a bunch of creatures trying to get a skin, only to learn from a passerby, that the only one that drops the skin is the Boss creature that is within all of the minions (Not labeled minions, btw, like usual minions).

A quest database on a site like this would be helpful for knowing which quests you could do. There are so many in the game, it seems that every town I visit or area I go to has dozens of "!" all over the mini map. I don't know where to start, and hate filling my quest journal with a bunch of quests that are all Red and too hard for me to do.

Also a place to learn about job skills, spells, abilities, feats, stats, etc. Discuss and learn. Right now everyone is so new, and busy learning their own, that they don't talk much in game, and discuss things in game.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not suggesting that there should be no database for this game. It would add a lot, you stated several things that would be fun to read apart from mob locations.

I've not found many quests where I had to look around to find the correct mob. There will be lots of those naturally.

If I think back to EQI, how necessary it was to get a full quest description before you could even think of doing them, and then games like EQII or WoW or now AoC, it has become a lot "easier" to do them. At least now you get a proper indication of where to go and what to do. Apart from perhaps a couple of quests, there are still some special ones that the quest journals don't fully explain.

It's just that with AoC, there are now even arrows pointing to where you have to go to complete or update a quest; that's another step imo.

So far, in Tortage anyway, I have indeed not seen a lot of chat action.

I agree, that would be useful. I must've spent 30 minutes running around trying to find the dude that sells bags in Old Tarantia. Or the Path of Azura lady. I'm a complete noob in this game, admitedly, but it would still be useful. Though there is an AoC wiki with decent info out there.

Totally unrelated, but last night I saw a guy with a guild tag "Exiles of Azeroth".

That's when I wish I was on a PvP server.

I'm pretty sure there is an option somewhere to turn off the arrows and wotnot for quest locations.

I must say tho, that having pointers to the quests is quite nice atm. I got enuff on my plate learning all the other stuff....

Oh yeah, and once you get a few more lvls, the world gets a LOT bigger, and the fights a lot harder, especially if you are soloing many of them.

In fact 3 of us last night finishing up some of the Ymir quests in Connals were edumacated at how quickly it can all go to custard if you arn't paying attention.

Damn good game tho!! I approve Smiley: grin

And Red. iirc there is a vendor that sells bags in the pub in Tortage. But only in the Night instance.

And as far as PvP goes...I rolled a toon on Deathwhisper, got them to the Island, got serial ganked for an hour, then went back to PVE, where we are busy collecting mats and money to build a keep on the land we bought. PvP can wait till then I reckon.

We're doing that too, it's pretty fun. Seeing how the buildings evolves, seeing them rise from the ground, pretty awesome.

In other news, I finally got to 40 last night and got my RHINO MOUNT. It looks freaking awesome, it drives quite well, but man... it's slow! Maybe I'm on some sort of ****** mode, but I seem to barely go quicker than on foot. Lazy rhino.

I also tried the mini-PvP games, and they are a lot of fun. You can sign up from anywhere, and you get sent back there when the game's over. Brilliant. The games themselves remind of the early days of WSG/AB, but in a good way. No one's really sure what they're doing, but the games themselves are quick and furious. Scoring a fatality on another player is just pure win.
