Sheesh, I didn't think it would be this difficult to find someone in the Madison area with a Homebrew capable PSP. I already bought an extra memory stick and battery and followed the steps as far as I could go. Sadly since I own a PSP slim, my firmware is too far ahead to modify without another modded PSP.

So yeah I'm kind of pissed.

At least I picked up some of the better PSP games over the weekend. My library now includes:
GTA Stories x2
FFT: War of the Lions
Dracula X
Patapon

I still need to pick up Metal Gear Acid and Portable OPS. Also, Crisis Core and Crush are a must. I had seriously considered the Sega 28 game pack because it includes Phantasy Star 2, 3 and 4. Sadly, my money (and time) are all tied up for a bit now.

I've posted Craigslist/classified/notes at school/ random bulletin boards around town with no response yet. Anyone know of any other websites that might help?

I had heard somewhere--I obviously don't know much about the Homebrew scene--that a particular custom firmware allows you to automatically have your PSP update from their location. Not sure how that would work if required updates are on the UMD's.

EDIT: MasterOfWar was kind enough to offer a link to THIS product. Solves all my problems once I actually receive it.

Awesome, I'm going to get one as well. See if I can't figure out how to get FFVII to work on the thing.

I used to have the homebrew and converted games and all that but it is tedious to keep updating and I eventually just updated to the official firmware.

If you have a PS3 you can stream PS1 games to your PSP, that's how I play FFVII on mine Smiley: grin

Today is the day I receive my battery service kit according to UPS. I'll be sure to post how it works tonight (if I'm not too tired) or tomorrow.

Mine's been showing Billing Information Recieved. I really hope that UPS just is being retarded with the scanning.... because the alternate is that they didn't ship it.

Edit: Sorry it took me so long to post this. I only have bits of time to mess around since I'm so busy with work and school during the week.

If you have a PSP Slim, use this link to use the Oldstyle MMS v2. I had to do some tinkering because the PSP wouldn't let me change anything. After making the magic memory stick, I had to plug in the powersupply and unplug it while the tool battery was in to finally let me install Oldschool MMSv2. You are supposed to immediately follow this up by using the Nextgen MMS v5 to get 3.90m33-3.

Links to help you out:

Oldschool download
Nextgen download
Tutorial pdf--I only needed section E and D

Original thread to download the needed Oldschool, Nextgen and tutorial.

To sum it up easily.

1. Download all three files.

2. Open tutorial and follow directions in step E--This was the most difficult part for me. You will most likely need to fool around a bit with the power supply and batter before you can get the PSP to recognize your selections for installing.

3.Follow the directions on step D--I am downloading Nextgen as we speak. My PSP firmware is already at 3.80M33-5 so I am past the most difficult step.

4. Find your homebrew and emulators!

YOU HAVE TO FOLLOW STEP THREE AND INSTALL 3.80M33-5 BEFORE YOU CAN UPGRADE TO THE NEXTGEN IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A SECOND PSP ALREADY RUNNING CUSTOM FIRMWARE!!!

Goodluck Catt, have patience and you should succeed.

I realize I'm better off posting most of this stuff on the actual psp modding forums since I would get more response there. As you can see from my post count, this is my posting website.

I'm having some trouble finding ROMs for snes to play. Also, every version of snes9x that I put on my PSP shows up as a corrupted file. It won't let me downgrade to 1.5 since Sony blocked that out of the newer slim PSP's. I'll let you know if I find anything else out.

Yeah, not sure how I didn't find those. I worked around some of the blocks by downloading a torrent. Some work but some don't show up as options under snes9x. I'll have to do some more searching.

Still, I now have about thirty of my all time favorite snes games on my psp.

Much obliged MoW.

Do you have the older copy of Lumines?

There is a new downgrader that can be found HERE that works on 3.50 and 4.00 (which is the latest).

No need for a pandora battery. If you have a legit copy of Lumines, send it to me when youre done.

ETA: I mean, CFW is bad...you should pay for games legally. This is as bad as playing on a private WoW/EQ server. Sheesh. I would never do that either.

I have absolutely no way to get my hands on the games I want in a first party manner. I could understnad if we were talking CD's, however, the only way I have to access these games is through second-hand used stores.

Also, that link you provided doesn't work on firmware 3.90. The only way to hack one of the newer PSP Slims is either with a second CFW enabled PSP, or the method I outlined.

Seriously, pretty sure Natsume can't get me Harvest Moon: Friends of Mineral Town. When's the last time you saw a new copy of Earthbound for SNES for sale? Or any SNES game for that manner besides through VC on Wii.

Your argument is ***** Dya.

I might jump back into the homebrew scene now. I have an original PSP that I can use for home brew, and then I have a new PSP slim (the star wars one) that I can keep legit.

Hmmm....

Just an FYI: Every SNES game that I've downloaded, I own the cartridge for. I just don't have an SNES to play them on.
