Can I use my logitech PS2 type controller for the game. I have the controller plugged and software installed but it does not work when in the game. What do I need to do to get it to work?

Honest answer? Learn to use a keyboard. I know that sounds curt and harsh but that's the honest truth. This game is not designed to be used with a controller and therefore even if you find a way to make it work, it will be limited and you will still have to use the keyboard. The closest substitution I can offer is the Nostromo n52, I love mine and after you get the key mapping done it centralizes all of your controls but again you will still need the keyboard for some functionality.

LoTRO supports a controller natively. You need to open the options panel and choose "key bindings". You can then use controler button presses instead of keys to map actions.

However, as stated above, you really should just get used to the keyboard. It's a 100% improvement over a restrictive controller. Mainly because the game is built to use the Keyboard and mouse as the primary inputs.

You probably could get it to work but why would you want to?

It would be like saying "I want to play basketball but I only want to use one lag and one hand"

A console game controller onlyhas a few buttons and is designed to work with games that are limited to needing just those few buttons.

While LoTRO (and MMOs in general) make use of dozens of buttons and limiting yourself to just a few will result in a limited playing experience.

More buttons = more fun!

By the way, if you really want to use a hand controller, a viable option for MMOs (instead of a console type controller) would be the "Nostromo N52" from Belkin.

I have been using one of these for years now and can't imagine gaming without it, but it is MUCH more complex in design then any console controller.

You work it with your left hand (leaving the right free to work the mouse) and you have access to 3 banks of 15 user programmable keys and buttons plus an 8 way directional control disk and a shift button (to change banks on the fly).

You can look at one HERE

It comes with software to help you program all the keys and buttons and will store unique setups for an unlimited number of games.

Can you type with that thing?

(Belkin makes my favorite mouse)

Nope, not unless you program your hotkeys across the keyboard and remember which ones are which letters. But like OBD and I said, it's probably the greatest controller type item other than having to take your hands off to type. I started using mine for FPS's and then set up a profile for WoW and can't live without it now.

I had an N52, and loved it. But then the scroll wheel broke after a month and I threw it away :(

So, you use the N52 and a standard mouse (on opposite hands) and have the keyboard still plugged in?

...or are most people just using voice for communications these days (I still type, talking on mics to strangers scares me)?

Yes the N52 sits to the left of the keyboard and the mouse (or trackball in my case) sits to the right. The keyboard is in the middle and all three devices are live. The N52 has a foot print that is only a little bigger then my hand so it really doesn't take up very much space.

In LoTRO, I have the four banks programmed for different characters (1 for hunter, 1 for minst etc.) but for EQ2 I set up one of the banks with all the key strokes used in Crafting and only use three banks for character control. I use the D-pad (8 position direction control disc) for character movement, the scroll wheel is set up to zoom the camera in and out and the red thumb "fire" button has been mapped as a push-to-talk (for voice com).

I still use the keyboard for typing in chat and for F-keys but really, for very little else!

Most basic needs (attack and action icons etc) are covered by the N52 and even jobs like targeting and opening bags have been mapped to the N52. Once you have a handle on how much you can do with it, it really becomes indispensable!

I still use a mouse click for things I don't do often like mapping home but pretty much everything on the primary two or three hotbars is mapped to the N52.

When I migrate all my "stuff" to a new computer the controller is one of the first things I install and set up!

BTW - Belkin has come out with an "Extreme Gaming Edition" of the N52 and I looked at it but I don't think I like it as much as my old one!

I've used an N52 off and on. Though I much prefer the Fang from Ideazon, http://www.ideazon.com/us/products/fanggamepad.asp

The n52 has better programming software IMO, but the fang is much easier more intuitive in use. Also it has textured and contoured keys is certain spots so you can tell by feel where your fingers are on it.

Also tried some Wolfking products, very dissapointing for the most part.
