As of recent I have been finding myself more and more displeased with recent video game releases. I am 28 and have been big into gaming ever since I was probably 5 or 6. I remember having a Atari towards the end of its success. I of course as a kid went nuts over the NES, and of course the SNES/Genesis etc etc.

Anyways I have been finding just about every game I play anymore unbearable. I mean I enjoyed pretty much all the older Call of Duties, most every GTA game, even before they became 3D. Every Final Fantasy from FF6 to FFX2 I was able to enjoy all the way to the end.

However as of recent I have rented several popular games that apparently the rest of the world has loved. I personally have absolutely hated them! Final Fantasy 12 sucked for me. I tried my best to enjoy this game as I have always gotten alot of play time out of Final Fantasy games. I got about 10 to 12 hours into this game and got to yet another boss that was insanely difficult and said F-it. Pretty much the story bored me, and the battle system was too difficult for me to enjoy.

I rented Halo 3. After enjoying the first 2 I jumped on the bandwagon expecting a great game. I found a dull game that felt like the first one all over again only with updated graphics. I hated it as well. I didn't find it to be too hard, but just too boring.

I really enjoyed the first 3 Call of Duty games. I rented the 4th one and once again I couldn't stand it. Difficulty wise it wasn't really any different then the previous games, but this one just bored me to death.

Not long ago I rushed out and waited in line at midnight to buy my copy of GTA4. As I said before I loved pretty much every other GTA ever made (including London for those who remember it). I once again tried my best to like this game but the changes just turned me away. The new cop meter, crappy controls, etc. I got about 5 hours into the game and once again said F-it and sold it. I found it to be too difficult between navigating the city, the new controls, and the added features such as flying our your car window if you crash going fast.

Even more recent was my purchase of Lego Indiana Jones. Yea pretty Casual title. I enjoyed the previous Lego Star Wars games quite abit. Once again this game just seems annoying difficult with puzzles around every corner, and the unavoidable gunfire from the constantly respawning enemies.

Am I just getting to that age where I just don't like Video Games anymore, or have there just been alot of crappy games released recently? I mean it seems like most of the games I have talked about have done well sales wise and alot of people seem to enjoy them. I will be the first to admit that if a game is overly difficult I can't stand to play it (FF12 for example). I would guess the last 2 games I really enjoyed to the point I could beat them would be Mario Galaxy and Final Fantasy CC My Life as King. I have played alot of demos on Xbox Live, as well as trials for Xbox Live games and they all either seem too hard, or too boring.

Oh and it still amazes me to this day how many people I find saying Mega Man 2 was one of the hardest games ever! I can go through that game on hard mode in about an hour or so. Amazes me that people who laugh at me for sucking at modern games can't beat MM2.

FF12 had a nice concept, but it was executed terribly. It is quite possibly the worst of the numbered series. The story is uneventful, so much so that when I reached the final boss I literally stepped back from the console and said "What the ****?" because I had honestly believed this was just a massively epic introduction and that I was only a third through the game. I had to have been a third through the game, because nothing had happened yet. The combat is terrible. Quickenings go from being I win moves in the beginning to nigh useless at the end. The majority of your spell and abilities outside of heals and buffs are pointless. The spell "reverse," can actually only help your opponent, it's incredibly stupid.

Halo is a terrible shooter series; you can't be faulted.

It was a different setting, and it's understandable that liking the previously similar games you would dislike the depaturer.

There were flaws, but I felt the game had a very solid storyline.

It's a bad game. It can be funny at times, but it's still a bad game.

Acclimation can tarnish types of games you once enjoyed. The novelty wears and so it is less enjoyable. I've noticed this as a general trend in my anime viewing. In the beginning everything was new and fresh, and I could watch most any mediocre series and enjoy it greatly. Now, not so much.

Whenever someone says "That game is hard!", I say "SNES Ghost and Ghouls hard...StarTropics hard...or 'I don't have the attention span to try multiple times'-hard", to which people look at me like I have three heads.

Super Ghouls and Ghosts was insane. You beat the hard *** game only to have to start at the beginning and do it again on a harder mode, while making sure to collect the special weapon to beat the end boss.

I guess maybe I have just went through a bad batch of games recently then. There are still plenty of games I enjoy playing. Oh yea and for the records I did beat StarTropics at one point in time. Far as the Ghost and Goblins games they made me cry as a child and still do to this day.

Of the games I mentioned hating Gta4 probably was the better of them. If I hadn't lost patience with it Id probably have played it through. But I had 1 too many failed missions over stupid stuff to continue.

The fact is most of the games you mentioned have some flaws that prevent them from being "great games". If you're just looking for the sequels to the games you've played before, I'd suggest trying to try out some new games. I know the gaming companies haven't given us a lot of fresh material, but I'm really looking forward to Spore and other such titles.

To hold you over, why not try out the upcoming Soul Calibur 4. Yeah 3 had some problems, but I hear they've been working those out of 4. You might also want to try Battlefield: Bad Company. I know some titles like Tales of Symphonia 2 are coming out late this year, so something to look forward to if you're a fan of the series.

Oh, and on ff12. Once you master the gambit system it's a really easy game. You can basically have it play itself. A lot of the bosses though do have like particular strategies that almost must be used if you want to take them down.
